Bills trade for Mike Williams

I don't see how hes going to pass a physical after having JUST taken a knife to the leg.

He has been productive in his career.

NFL #19 Mike Williams - ESPN

To me he has been a jag who caught passes because there was little else on the roster to throw to.
Classic case of a guy who produces above his talent level out of need in one place and never produces anywhere else. There have been dozens of these guys over the years.

Good for them. Good player. Honestly I always liked the Bills. They have a loyal fan base and were heartbreakingly turned away from the promised land 4 times in a row and yet the fan base stays strong (for its size).

Also they aren't a team that talks a ton of smack which is good.

Now about this move. I don't think it changes anything for either us or them. He is good but not true impact. Also our DBs are just going to be too good for it to matter.

Williams is definitely better than a jag. He's not elite but he's not a jag either.

I'd consider the addition of Williams to be akin to us adding LaFell.

I think the Bills got a steal, notwithstanding that huge contract. He's coming off a big down year but that year was a disaster for the whole team, and there were a lot of problems at QB, especially in the beginning with Freeman. Not like the Bills situation is much better, but Williams started his career with 3 basically identical 65ish catch seasons and is just one year removed from that. He won't be elite, he never has been, but he'll be a good #2 or a solid #1.

If he is the Bills #1 or #2, that is good for the Patriots.

LaFell is a better blocker, Williams has better hands, but both are possession guys with size who run routes well. They're comparable level of players. LaFell is a model citizen and by all reports a good locker room guy, though, and Williams has had some off the field issues dating back to Syracuse.

He is being reunited with his college coach and going back to his hometown, so maybe the change of scenery will do him some good. He's a good third guy to go along with Stevie and Robert Woods, who really impressed me last year.

The same college coach that at one point kicked him off the team

ESPN.com's Mike Rodak believes Stevie Johnson's roster spot is in jeopardy.

Coming off an injury-riddled 2013, Johnson is set to count $8.5 million against the cap. He's a candidate to be released following Buffalo's trade for Mike Williams, with second-year receivers Robert Woods and Marquise Goodwin both capable of taking on expanded roles. Because releasing Johnson carries $8.475 million in dead money, he could be asked to take a pay cut. If the Bills ultimately decide to move on from Johnson, they would free up just $25,000 in cap space.
Buffalo Bills, Doug Marrone give Mike Williams second chance - ESPN

Thoughts?

They are MORONS to release him for $25K - but if they do - who else can we release to sign this guy?
Yup more likely they'll just keep him and eat the 8 doubt he'll restructure his contract or another team will be willing to take that on.

Um, IMHO Williams is more physically talented than any WR on the Pats. He has been clean until this off season since acting like a lunkhead his senior year at Syracuse. Williams is big, tough, decently fast, and he's got excellent hands. To call him a JAG seems pretty far off.

The year he actually had a QB, 2012 when Freeman 'bloomed,' Williams had 9 TD's, 63 catches, 4 yards short of 1000 total and averaged 15.8/catch. He put up similar numbers as a rookie which is phenomenal for 1st year player. Playing opposite VJax in 2012 Williams had to be darn good to demand that much attention from his QB while VJAx was absolutely tearing it up.

If he's the Buffalo number 2 that's borderline brutal for the Pats. Johnson, Woods and now Williams? Yow, be glad they only have EMan chucking it. Brady would break all his records with that bunch.

Don't see how he's a Jag besides the fact that he played in Florida as well :) but he's pretty talented just an idiot.
