I like all of the proposed rule changes. Hopefully they all pass!

Upon further review... if the rule changes are being proposed by the Pats, then I support them all.

according to Don Banks, none of these has a chance.

Talking to various coaches, general managers and club executives on Sunday, I'm not convinced any of the rule change proposals made by clubs have a chance for passage at this year's owners meeting.

One club official and longtime league veteran told me that the only two proposals that might gain enough support to be adopted were the moves to allow teams to increase their active game-day roster from 46 to 49 for Thursday night games (precluding the league's season-opening game), and the two-man increase of each team's practice squad from eight to 10 members. Both are in being pushed in under the heading of player safety and greater attention to player development.

But other club officials read the tea leaves differently and say even those relatively small changes won't fly, due to both changes needing to be collectively bargained for in the next round of labor negotiations with the players. The 2014 season is only the fourth year of the hard-fought CBA that was put in place in 2011.

I hated the extra point rule. An extra point shouldn't be a task on it's own, nor should be an big factor on a team victory, it is "extra" after all. A better resolution would be to simply make the ball placement on the 13 yards, so it would be a 30 yards fg, which is much more difficult than a 19 yards
, but one reasonably easy kick to make.

The last three are no brainers.

Yes, insult intended for any brain dead against them when I read the thread.

The first, moving the XP at first seems stupid, but remember the idea the league floated to move it back to like the 48 or something? This is to circumvent that. I do not like moving it at all, but this is better than the proposed and if it isn't moved back this lesser distance the longer WILL get proposed eventually, just as the longer season and/or more playoff games eventually happened despite me objections. (I would think they don't even listen to me shouting at the T.V.)

For everyone worried that we may lose some games with missed extra points, keep in mind that we may win some too.

After all, the opponent has to attempt them as well.

I like everything but challenging every call. That will slow down the game to a crawl.

The question is, do we want games decided by extra points or by overtime?

Do we want games decided by touchdowns, field goals and safeties? If the extra point is a legitimate way to score points, then it should weigh into the outcome of the game just like any other scoring play.

If it isn't, then the PAT should just be eliminated altogether. It's just a ceremony if it isn't meant to affect outcomes.

Personally, I would prefer if they didn't have PAT or field goals. Both are structured plays that essentially rely on the execution of just one player and sometimes just feels like luck.

The rest of football is so gloriously complicated and requires the orchestration of all 22 players on the field.

The kicking plays almost seem like a different game lacking the most intriguing aspects of the sport.

But then we would have to rename it something else. I suggest "tackleball".

Except that that is NOT the proposal. The proposal is that any call may be challenged.
Each coach has two (2) challenges with a 3rd if they win the 1st two.

This does not slow down the game other than raise the probability that there will typically be 4 challenges per game.
