DeSean Jackson?

He does other things, too, like run the width of the end zone to troll a defense he just smoked down the side line before finally bringing the ball into the paint for the TD. He's been penalized for tossing the ball to the opposing head coach after a great play. He definitely has attitude issues.

If, and it's a big if that I'm doubtful of, but if Belichick could land him, I think he would shut that down immediately. He'd get benched a game for doing it here

Yea traditionally players have laid off that stuff when they have come to Foxboro. He can still have fun, but it can't be excessive. It's just something that players understand about the culture here.

I can't say it will or won't happen, but Jackson is an electric football player and from a football standpoint he has ALOT of value.

Will not disagree with the attitude stuff. He isn't Steve Smith, it isn't channeled at all and he isnt a leader. But he wouldn't need to be here....unlike Philly where he is a senior member of that team.

Don't get me wrong. I'm in the camp that wants him here.
I just don't really see how it can happen unless Belichick puts some Bill voodoo on a bunch of people. Apparently we're in the mix. I guess we'll see.

I could and couldn't see it. The birds have to make it worth a team's while as well if they want to move him. Can't expect a team to shell out a high pick and deal with the compensation issues surrounding a deal like this. It's just not realistic and I think they are the party starters here. Roseman is BB-lite when it comes to massaging the cap. Chip and BB have a relationship. There is precedence between the two franchises as well.

A compromise of say... player swaps, picks and cash considerations to offset cost could be a really nice option for all parties.

I can say that I positively don't see D-Jax accepting a restructure of any kind. But again I thought the same about Revis taking less ;)

Whatever he wants him gone for, it isn't for his skills on the football field. Maybe he just had an attitude from the Andy era of dysfunction and Chip is dropping guys that haven't fallen completely in line with his new regime.

The kid might be a little ****er and his show boating antics on the field don't mesh well with `the Patriot way`, but the kid has talent and he is fast as hell.
If we had him teams would have to play the deep ball.

He's also an elusive little bastard. Great at escaping tackles and making an 80 yard TD out of nothing.

He's talented. He's a jerk.

He's also made nothing out of long TDs, more than once.

All those "incidents" are pretty old, when he was much younger.

Maybe not the 91 yard backward TD. But what stands out to me about that play is DAMN that dude can fly! We don't have anyone on the roster that can do that. Please don't trot out Boyce lol.

Well, I don't see any Super Bowl trophies in Philadelphia and he was benched under Reid, now Kelly wants to get rid of him. 175 lbs.

Ok. Lots teams and players don't have trophies. Don't see the connection.

Brady has never been great at throwing the deep ball, and we've seen how his deep ball accuracy has decreased quite noticeably these last few seasons with age. Jackson's primary talent revolves around being a deep threat.

A big part of the deep ball is the receiver's ability to track the ball and adjust based on where it's going. Brady threw a fantastic deep ball when Moss was the one catching it, but Moss was probably the best deep receiver the game has ever seen.

I'm not cheerleading for a Jackson trade but if we do get him I think you'll see a dramatic improvement in Brady's deep ball...when it's going to Jackson.

Cash considerations are irrelevant. It isn't the actual money itself, but rather the hit against the cap. What we need is for Jackson to be willing to restructure but given what he is scheduled to make the next 3 years (roughly $10 million per year) he has 0 incentive to restructure.

As other posters have mentioned, Jackson caught 65% of his passes last year. Performance wise, He is Patriot material based on last season - his career high. That season alone would make me think that Jackson deems his value high and worthy of said contract. DJax was ranked 7th best WR in the NFL last year.

His other seasons are good, but not as spectacular.

I would love to see Jackson here, but do we have the cap space right now? Also how high would the draft pick be?

... He's been penalized for tossing the ball to the opposing head coach after a great play. He definitely has attitude issues...

My head tells me that this is seriously an unclassy thing to do and of course I'd never want one of our receivers doing this kind of thing..

But then I imagine him doing this to Rex Ryan...

The fact that he is suspended says he has a problem, maybe not alcohol, but there is an issue there.

I'd say the issue is horrible decision making more than alcoholism.

The view in Philly is that he is too small and too easily shut down. He will also not take a hit to make a catch.

With that said, Brady has always done better with short guys and I think he could fit the role that Deion played in 2004-2005.

Randy Moss was 6-foot-4 and Brady did the best of all with him. It's not that Tom "does better" throwing to shorter receivers, it's just that he hasn't been given many tall ones to work with.

While I think a one dimensional receiver like Desean can be a troubling thing for an offense, think back on the 2009 Pats and Moss, the difference on this team is that the Pats probably ONLY need DJ to take the top off the defense. In 2009 we needed Moss and Welker to do everything. In theory, this season we'd have Edelman (and DA I guess) for the slot, Gronk for the seem, DJ to take the top off, and Vereen for the flats.

I'd be all for this move, and if the salary cap is going to explode in a couple years like everyone projects, I think we could absorb his deal if we were to convert the first year to a bonus. DJ gets a nice big check right after the trade, and we lower the initial year of the deal to around a $4m cap hit.

As a person who was convinced that the Pats would get Revis, I am very doubtful that the Pats get Jackson.

The reason I was convinced they would get Revis is because Revis is an once in a generation (possibly lifetime) player. Belichick throws out the rules for a guy like that.

Jackson is an excellent receiver, but he isn't an once in a generation player. I think his contract makes him prohibited to the Patriots. They can fit him in under the cap, but they would have to convert base salary to bonus and still eat big cap hits in subsequent years. Not impossible, but not typical Patriots modus operandi. I don't think Belichick throws out the rules for Jackson.
