Pats Sign Brandon Browner!

You guys are going to fall in love with Browner. He is a complete playmaker. He gets strips in the run, picks in the pass (when you think he is beat) tosses WRs down without holding at the LOS and lays the wood on everybody.

He is one of my favorite players and with Revis out there you are going to get him just like he was in Seattle. In the run game he plays like a LBer, he knows how to make a clean hit that usually ends with a WR or TE taking the next few plays off. He will bringan attitude and style of play that makes you excited when the other team has the ball. Browner is a stud. Enjoy.

I am sad to see him go, but Maxwell played so well when he got suspended that he wouldn't have had the snaps he used to. Couldn't afford to pay him for that when we have others at less money. Browner was the original "BOOM" with Chancellor in the LOB.

Do yourselves a favor, find the video of Browner making 3 blocks on AZ players during a punt return on YouTube. Heck, just watch the LOB videos. He is a star in all of them. Carroll knows his defensive players, especially DBs.

If Browner's not going to safety, safety is a definite need. The problem is that there's only so much money in the kitty, and only so many draft picks available. With the amount of "top 20" talent this year, and the reasonable likelihood that some of it reaches the Patriots, I'm not sure BB is going to want to do the drop down thing with the round 1 pick.

This is a year where I expect some decent WRs to spring loose, so I'm not worried about that position right now.

This is a year where I can see TE in round 2 and C in round 3, so I'm not worried about those positions right now.

That leaves S/DT/DE/LB, Blount/RB and possibly OG. Assuming Browner stays at CB, maybe getting Chris Clemons would be a nice finishing tough to the secondary. The tackling would suffer a bit, but

Revis
McCourty
Clemons

would cover a lot of ground, and Browner could beat the hell out of the WR2s while Dennard and Arrington do the same to the slot guys. That would leave that round 1 pick for the DL.

Then, the interesting question (to me) comes up if it's one of the CBs that falls.

I don't disagree with your position (it's a damn good one) as much as I am trying to look ahead of it. Question: how does your position change if the team signs James Jones? You mentioned being ok with WR in this class, so I have to ask.

Demolitions?

Thanks, check this out. Takes out three in rapid fire like a cartoon.

Got to admit. I'm *****ng pumped to see what this secondary can do. On paper it looks like the best secondary they've had in a long time.

Ty Law, Lawyer Milloy, Tebucky Jones, Otis Smith also liked Terrell Buckleys role

Ty Law, Rodney Harrison, Eugene Wilson, Tyrone Poole

Raymond Clayborn, Fred Marion, Roland James, Ronnie Lippett

Darrelle Revis, Devin McCourty, Brandon Browner, Alfonso Dennard. Tbd.

He blocks 3 guys on 1 play and all for a fair catch.

Ha ha. I didn't even notice. Returner looked embarrassed, or just shocked.

I could swear there were three guys coming at me!

On paper. I think this is the best 5 man CB duo they have had. Hell if they just had revis it would be up there. Browner puts it over the top!

Yep, they just got to put it all together, build chemistry and gel on the field. If they can do that this is going to be a real fun season.

It was was those 5 including Terrell Buckley who figured out how to handle the "The Greatest Show on Turf". :snob::snob::snob::snob:

I just saw that vid here on someones sig. I was like holy shizzle, that guy is a frickin monster! I needed to watch it 5 times to see why eveyone kept falling down, haha. Once I saw it was Browner, I couldn't believe it, thinking we might get that guy!

Names for the secondary.
The black and blue crew
The New England take these hits.
The Beasts of the East.
No Fly Zone.
No passing Lane.

Law/Rodney/Wilson/Poole w/Asante as back up was awesome. Hoping this secondary tops it.

I agree, I was thinking we line him up 40 yards up field and let him approach every play like a punt return.

He would make flying a possible feat for humans. I say we do that when we play the donks and the targets are Welker and Ward (make him play offense).

I just want to say this while I am still calm. Before my head explodes, or I have a stroke.

I just don't understand why so many people who claim to know something about football and claim to have been Patriot fans for many years, can spend time looking for help at SS, like its a key need for the Pats secondary.

Don't you people even watch the games, listen to the reports that describe what happens. If you did, you should have realized that for the last SEVERAL years the Pats have played in a system where THERE IS NO SS. They don't flop their safeties, people. I repeat, THEY DON'T FLOP THEIR SAFETIES. Thus by definition, SS is a position that doesn't EXIST within the Pats defense!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thus my frustration when in almost EVERY thread, regardless of the topic, there will be posts calling for the addition of a SS. Then the posts analyzing SS prospects in the draft and FA. And the posts assuming that Browner has been signed so he can be a SS for the Pats, despite the fact that one of his limitations is his effectiveness covering in space.

What the Pat need at the 2nd safety spot, is a guy who is fast and athletic enough to cover WR's and TE's down the seams. Has the range to cover deep outside over the top. Has the strength to play in the box (inverted) in 3 deep coverages, against the run. And has the instincts to read patterns and attack when he's in the "robber" position. That's who would be the ideal player to play next to McCourty. We should get too caught up with what the media labels as positions. BTW- the above description, DOES NOT describe Brandon Browners skill set.

Help me out here guys. There Pats have work to do this off season, without us wasting time looking to fill a position that doesn't exist.

Yet they've drafted and selected guys that can't cover and are best at run support.

Shakespeare said, what's in a name. I don't think McCourty is going to be playing run support more than the "other" safety.

I want to go on record now saying I'm fine with the price we're paying him.

Considering the Rodney Harrison style head hunting he is known for, he might have a few fines to pay before the season is over.

The Denver game alone will probably cost him 50K

it doesn't describe Steve Gregory's either...

As long as he's coming at a reasonable price, I'm fine with Jones, as a short-term consolation prize. He drops the ball, so we'd be hearing about that, but he can get deep on occasion, and he'd set up a 1-4 of (in no particular order):

Jones
Dobson
Amendola
Edelman (?)

That would leave Thompkins and Boyce fighting the UDFAs and the Mike Jenkins' of the world. The Patriots wouldn't really have a 'true' WR1, since the WR1 would likely be a slot WR, but we're used to that in the post-Moss era.
