Next Stop, the Underwear Olympics

Thanks to everyone for posting results today. I had to work so couldn't watch the combines, but it's great reading the post, especially about the tight ends. I really can't wait for the d-line. Does anybody know if they go tomorrow or Monday?

I agree on the film but even there he's a clear end zone threat and chain mover. If his athleticism says that he can be more then I think a small push up the board is warranted. Will he be Jimmy Graham? No. Is he too similar to Gronk? Probably, and they are all reasons to temper a dramatic increase in stock from a Pats perspective. But even so, his numbers were excellent and surprising and if nothing else, fair play to him.

I applaud your even-mindedness, and I agree that he deserves credit for performing well.

Without specific reference to Fiedorowicz, this is the age-old Combine dilemma: prospect A runs/tests poorly relative to his film, and prospect B runs/tests well relative to his film. What do you do? Definitely revisit the film, but if your first impression holds, what do you do? There could be all kinds of explaining factors for either result - injuries, rapid weight loss/gain, changes in system or scheme, etc. - but ultimately it's a bit of a guessing match.

DL does the bench press tomorrow, then drills and tests on Monday. Tomorrow is the WRs, RBs and QBs. DBs arrive tomorrow for their weigh-ins.

I would be thrilled if we could land Fiedorowicz in the 2nd and Burton in the 6th...thrilled.

Especially if we were able to draft Stepen Tuitt, Rashede Hageman, Zack Martin, Louis Nix, or Calvin Pryor at #29.

Thanks Mayo :) Definitely appreciate all the write ups you and everyone else does on this board!!! I feel that since I've joined, I've already learned so much.

Substitute ASJ (drops because of foot fracture) and I'm all for it:

- Trade 29 to SF for 56 and 61, unless Aaron Donald is on the board
56. Dominique Easley, DT.
- Trade 61 for a high 3rd and a 5th
62. ASJ (drops because of foot fracture).
3a. Marcus Martin or Christian Jones, LB
93. Joel Bitonio, Weston Richburg or Marcus Martin, interior OL
4. Antone Exum, DB. SS opposite McCourty who can both hit and cover.
5. Justin Ellis, DT.
6a. Tyler Starr, LB. More speed and explosiveness at the second level.
6b. Big DB: Aaron Colvin, Dontae Johnson or Jonathan Dowling
6 (comp). One of the Trey's: Bruton or Millard.
7. Moon shot on a guy like Chris Boyd or Colt Lyerla.

Fiedorowicz is incredibly pedestrian. Do not want him, personally.

It's basically a 3-day event for each group, staggered over 6 days:

- Day 1-3 (Thurs-Sat): OL, TE and specialists. They finish today.
- Day 2-4 (Fri-Sun): QB, RB, WR. They finish tomorrow.
- Day 3-5 (Sat-Mon): DL and LB.
- Day 4-6 (Sun-Tues): DB.

Each 3-day consists of weigh-ins and public interviews Day 1, bench press and private interviews day 2, and workouts and drills day 3.

Who do you prefer? I know you like Pryor at safety with our first pick but that's not happening now unfortunately....are you still thinking defense with the first pick and going tight end later?

I wouldn't have the patience to wait on Bitonio until 93 but I might on ASJ now, especially if he's going to be a year one redshirt.

And for the RBs:

- Jerick Mackinnon: 32 (matches Shane Vereen's total from 2011, IIRC)
- Bishop Sankey: 26
- Isaiah Crowell: 23
- Jeremy Hill: 20
- Carlos Hyde: 20
- Dri Archer: 20
- Ka'deem Carey: 19
- Terrance West: 16
- Andre Williams: 16
- De'Anthony Thomas: 8

2014 NFL Combine Results: Running Backs | Steelers Depot

Cody Latimer is growing on me. Lets see how he runs.

I hope not. Slow as molasses.

Slow as molasses on arthritic knees from a botched surgery, apparently.

Again, I think it's very unlikely. But, just to play Devil's Advocate, could this end up being a situation comparable to Marcus Cannon in 2011? IF (and again, this is purely a hypothetical) the Pats' medical staff felt that Kouandjio could recover significantly if allowed to rest and possibly with treatment (something like hyaluronic acid injections), then if he took a free fall into day 3 like Cannon did in 2011, spending a 5th round pick and giving him time to heal could be something to consider.

FWIW, here's Mackenzie's scouting report on Kouandjio from 2 months ago:

Cyrus Kouandjio Scouting Report - 2014 NFL Draft

He's a bit of a mauler in the DJ Fluker mold who always lacked ideal footwork and is probably more of a "phone booth" kind of guy, but he could be a dominant guard or possibly RT if he recovers somewhat. Give him a red shirt year like the Pats did with Cannon and see what happens. If he drops to day 3, the cost and risk are low.

Again, I'm playing Devil's Advocate, and it's a long, long shot. But I bet BB checks out his medical reports and talks to Saban.

I would prefer Amaro to fall...really feel he's going to be a difference maker, and it's a coin flip between Fiedorowicz and Seferian-Jenkins for me. What I see in Fiedorowicz is a Heath Miller type that immediately strengthens the run game; a reliable outlet intermediate receiver with sure hands who will occasionally stretch the seam with savvy route running and understanding of coverage drops/holes. With Seferian-Jenkins I see a Marcedes Lewis type, who looks the part and is more capable of the dynamic play but seems to be hit or miss when it comes to doing the small things that make a good athlete a good football player.

I wouldn't be mad at either being selected in the 2nd, but would prefer Fiedorowicz's steadiness.
