Bronco CB Chris Harris Jr probably out for AFCCG

This should in no way make any of us believe that the path is easier.

Remember opportunity for all our guys and how they responded....it is not unique to NE.

Their scouting dept. will have someone ready and maybe, maybe that person will not be as prepared as they may have been with BB, whoever that corner ends up being, they no doubt are gonna know that this is a huge opportunity for them

Business as usual as far as I am concerned...pedal....metal....all week and twice on SUnday...

Good that this news came early on Monday so Billy Football will have the entire week of practice to make any change on the game plan because of that.

Belichick probably received the news before Harris did!.... ;)

That's a tough break for the Broncos. He's their best cover corner.

We lost a defensive starter to IR!!!

Sort of reminds one of the reddit Star Wars vs. Game of Thrones site:

The Pats don't have the personnel to take advantage of this loss in the Donks secondary. If Dobson can play a bit, then maybe.

Maybe not, but it can't hurt not to have him on the field.

Reviving this thread as I believe it is this storyline that will allow the Pats to potentially put up 35+ tomorrow.....with ease.

With Harris in the game, the Bronk's QBR is 43. In the 81 snaps he was out over the year, it is 93. We know hes a good cover guy and allows a fairly low comp% vs and defensive passer rating. That doesn't tell the whole story about how his loss hamstrings this defense vs the Pats. Harris was their slot CB and a very good tackler in run support. DRC is not a slot CB so we won't see him much. Jammer, Carter, Champ and others are not true slot CBs nor are they especially good tacklers on the outside. The Pats are a slot, middle of the field, run the ball offense and have a tremendous opportunity here.

If Dobson and KT can make some catches on the outside an offer enough of a threat for DEN to now play Adams or Ihenacho deeper than normal, it'll open up things even more.

If thonpkins and Dobson play that truly is a game changer. Who do you stop of you line them up with Edelman and vareen out wide? Run or pass?

Everyday I feel more confident in this game knowing that the only way the pats have been stopped in the past is the opposing teams front 4. Who's on Denver's front 4? I seriously don't know

Yes, thanks for making this point. I read something about this yesterday, that Harris is their slot guy (will work to find the link).

While a lot of the talk here has been "can Dobson/KT/Amendola exploit this injury deep?," this situation plays even more into the Pats favor. I really don't expect much out of AD/KT other than decoy work, but I wouldn't be shocked if there was at least one big-yardage reception between them.

In DEN's base defense he was on the outside. In DEN's nickel and dime coverages, he went to the slot.

This is interesting...

Harris gave up 36 receptions on 56 targets in 393 snaps in the slot with opponents with a 65.6 QB Rating when throwing on him there.

However, when Bailey returned from a foot injury in Week 13, it allowed the Broncos to keep Harris outside, especially during the last two weeks of the season, while the 35-year-old Bailey worked his way back into the rotation.

In his limited time in that position, though, Bailey's numbers have not been great. Over his 40 regular season snaps as a slot defender, Bailey was targeted six times, giving up three receptions, including a touchdown. Against the Chargers, Bailey played 23 snaps, all in the slot, with Rivers going a perfect 3-for-3 when going in his direction.

When you consider the Pats will go 3WR/1TE, 4WR, Vereen and now potentially Dobson and KT getting some snaps here and there this can cause DEN major coverage issues w/ JE, DA and potentially Collie.

The 27th ranked passing defense in the NFL just got worse. Look for Edelman to have a field day! Impact game for Minitron coming right up!

That's exactly right.........their passing D just got a whole lot worse. Anybody saying that is doesn't matter because we do not have outside threats to take advantage is totally wrong.

First of all, as noted previously, Harris moved to slot frequently - we have a few slot guys last time I checked. Secondly, anytime a team loses an impact starter, of course they are weakened, in this case is is significant as he was the glue holding that piss poor secondary together.

If Dobson is healthy he will have a field day, even if it he on the field, he wil draw respect and attention taking coverage away from other areas.

I see Denver committing to plugging up the middle...........mark this down, career day for Shane Vereen tomorrow, he has been kind of quiet he goes off tomorrow.

Actually they do, Jammer was slow on his fastest day and Bailey is as old as dirt, great as he once was. the Patriots receivers are small and quick and they will give those two fits. The Patriots receiving corps is depleted but they can get open and do damage against a lousy Denver secondary.

Cliff Notes version of your post - "Don't you get it? The Broncos just lost their TALIB!" :p

Their talib is a 3 years past his prime champ bailey.

No, it's Harris, who himself is only an average corner - he's nowhere near Talib or even Dennard as a player. But the rest of the secondary is such a dumpster fire that losing Harris is a catastrophe.
