Broncos defense vs Patriots offense

my only question would be, is what Denver's defense did in the first 3 quarters more about what Denver did, or the Chargers?

when they opened up the playbook in the 4th quarter they put up 17points.

it almost seemed like the broncos knew what the chragers were running.

1st down - Run
2nd down - Run
3rd down- pass

it makes it pretty easy to defend when you show your hand like that.

The biggest worry about Denver's defense is that they're statistically the best run defense that we could have faced in the AFC and that's what the team has been leaning on lately. This is really a game where they could use Dobson back and producing.

I think their rush defense is a bit overrated from a stats standpoint. When you have a several TD lead and a high powered offense, opposing teams abandon the run quite a bit. One stat that stands out to me is that they are bad in the rushing TD allowed category (tied for 23rd with 15 TD). That tells me that teams seem to rush more on them in short yardage situations and probably not as much in open field situations.

The Pats ran all over Baltimore and their rush defense is arguably better than the Broncos and teams rarely abandon the run against them since the Ravens had no offense this year.

It also made it easier that the Chargers' lead back was so injured that he didn't even play in the second half. I think the Chargers would have had a much better success rate with this strategy if Ryan Matthews was anywhere close to healthy.

Surprised how well Denver played the run. Of course, much of that was due to Matthews' gimpy ankle.

San Diego uses a totally different run scheme than the Patriots are currently using.

SD was taking on guys one on one and asking their RBs to patiently pick their spots.

The Patriots are pulling, trapping, sending multiple TEs and FBs into gaps, and they are opening themselves up to backside penetration. But the RBs are trusting the gameplan so much that they are hitting the holes hard and getting there long before the backside can shut them down for losses. When Blount hesitates you see losses right now.

Denver is going to have to defend against the run by being tougher than our OL. They can do it, because they have Knighton and Williams, but defending it is going to be very different than stopping San Diego.

Didn't bill bench both blount and ridley after they fumbled in the last game? Their defense haven't faced anyone like juggerblount.

Chris Harris their top cover corner unlikely to play Sunday. Broncos now fearing a serious knee injury per rotoworld.

He's got a torn ACL

Ridley definitely got benched. Not sure if Blount got benched or had to leave due to concussion rules, because he got knocked loopy on his fumble. Maybe Bill would have benched him anyway, but I don't think he ever had the choice.

Blount got benched - 2 carries for 12 yards.

He was clearly knocked out on the hit. You could see his body go limp for a couple seconds.

Luckily his arm touched the returner after DEN secured the ball so it didn't go back for the 30+ yard return. DEN kicked a FG on that possession.

Denvers run D allowed 70 yards per game for the first 6 and 120 per game ever since.
YPC 3.4 first 6 and 4.1 since.

Yeah... nothing about those numbers indicates "benched" rather than "concussed", but it's a moot point. He didn't play after the fumble for whatever reason, so he was a non factor in that game.

What are the numbers since Von Miller has been out? Somehow I want to believe the run defense is probably better.

Dunno why, guess I just expect the guy replacing him to be obviously less of a pass rusher, but possibly make it up in run D.

I could be dead wrong though.

If I'm Denver's DC, I'm stacking the box and daring Brady to beat me deep. Play run and have the CB's jam and hit the WR's. The Pats haven't shown much over the middle since Gronk's injury other than Edelman on short crossing routes and the deep passing game is almost nonexistent if Dobson is out. Amendola might get another long play but I don't think Denver needs to worry about that too much.

Here's a stat about our defense that you'll find much more "fun" than I will:

Via Profootball Focus: Opp. 2013 QB ratings when throwing at DEN CBs: Harris: 64.1. DRC: 67.1. Webster: 96.9. Carter: 97.9. Champ: 99.9. Jammer: 132.9.

You can see how taking away Harris and replacing him with Jammer makes me uncomfortable. Don't be surprised if Carter or Webster take Harris' spot though.

all I care about in this game is the ref crew...if it's the "hold all day long , we ain't calling anything" then I'll just say, good luck in the Bowl.

If they are smart they will do this...stack up against the run and make edelman and amendola beat you...(hopefully dobson too)

But brady/BB own del rio
