Brandon Spikes news: late for team meeting, was going to be released; could've played

Just on Sunday NFL Countdown, Chris Mortensen reported Spikes wasn't that hurt and could of played, and that the IR designation was punishment for being late to a team meeting.

Originally, they wanted to outright release Spikes, but they came to the mutual agreement that IR was fair enough.

Saw that too. Surprising, since I always figured when he slipped in the buffalo game, it aggravated his injury.

I noticed this as well. Can't find any reports to support this. Is this just ESPN trying to stir things up?

Just saw that. Liked how the former players on the panel rallied in favor of BB on this one. Said Spikes needed to be more of a leader on this team with all of their injuries. For him to go to twitter shows where his head is and sadly, a reflection of the type of players today that live on social media. I don't see Spikes coming back but if he does he'll be on a very short leash.

Sounds like a camp fire story to me. Spikes was playing on a torn ligament and on Sunday it looked like his knee just crumbled.

I love bill, but he can be a little power hungry at times.

Just watched the segment, I'm somewhat conflicted on the decision if true, part of me thinks why punish the team but then I think belicheck has done a pretty good job up to this point doing things his way

It apparently was repeat offenses, and he was also hurt. No use having a guy on your roster that will barely contribute as is, and Didn't want to put in the same effort as everyone else.

Also, last season in NE, so it isn't like they're messing with someone who is going to be around later.

Spikes tweeted a pic last week of his car stuck in the snow, I guess Adalius Thomas wasn't around to help shovel him out.

We may have seen the last of him.

He deliberately just weakened the run defense because of the "patriot way"

Maybe this is my pregame nerves, but this could comeback and hurt the pats.

I have assumed all season long that Spikes would not be back for the 2014 season.

needless controversy about the pats from ESPN. why would BB who loves to hide info, just deactivate spikes instead of putting him on IR one week before the game >

Spikes not only barely played the last few weeks, but he clearly aggravated his knee injury again.

He wouldn't have contributed much if he DID play. Him being late just helps the Pats push him it the door.

Wasn't brady stuck in traffic before SB 36? He ended up calling the tape am who got him police escort to the game.
