Spikes placed on IR with ligament tear in knee

Peter King had some intern total injuries, while he was getting a double whipped cream frappucino. Although we lost key people, we're not in the top few on IR or ACL injuries.

So, suck it up people! We are the king of depth and play better with our bacups than others do!

Anyone depressed by this has been living in a fool's paradise. The 2013 Patriots theme already was 'next man up'. Regardless of Spikes being IR'd, playing with no names, rookies, also rans was the stark reality. So if Spikes being IR'd is the nail in the coffin? We were DOA already.

The Patriots are going to win this thing, if they do, with no names, rookies, also rans already......period. A collective effort of the coaches and players that create victories by way of team/different avenues (Blount being the most recent). This latest news changes the outlook and possibilities for the playoffs to no significant degree.

HA. Well done. Did he have a muffin or cookie to go with his drink?

The measure of the number of players on IR isn't that significant if you can't add a starter or number of plays element to the equation. What a year this has been. I'm with the group that see Spikes play being reduced anyway, so I'm not that devastated about this news. Sucks for him looking for a new contract.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit drinking.

Anyone has Ray Lewis' number?

Not all IRs and games missed are created equal. This isn't to say we are hit the worst in that area but it's a different tally. We have lost among the very best at multiple positions: OL, TE, DL, LB. I'd like to see a comparison done using these qualifiers.

With that said, I agree 100% with the "suck it up" sentiment.

more depressing news.....at least no IR for Dobson......:bricks:

Spikes has been playing through ligament injury for weeks...source said he'd need surgery after season. IR move may accelerate that

Per the Boston Globe, Spikes has been battling a ligament problem "for weeks." It's a concern that Spikes will now need the operation before he enters free agency. One of the NFL's premier interior run-thumpers, a healthy Spikes would be a top-five free agent inside linebacker. Others free-agent ILB eligibles include Donald Butler, Karlos Dansby, Jon Beason, and Daryl Smith.

Guessing he won't be back next season but you never know...

If Spikes goes - he will be liked elsewhere as much as here. I will just hate the times we may have to play against him.

Not to bash Spikes but who here has noticed any difference with him on or off the field as of late? He just wasn't the same guy since he suffered the injury. I am trying to spin this positively in favor of the guys who have played in his place at times this season.

That list is a month old. According to NFL.com, the Packers have 15 players on the IR currently. And that is after adding 3 players since December 1st to that list, so it doesn't seem to be correct unless they also included players who were IRed and then given an Injury settlement.

By my count, the Pats now have 14 players on the IR including Spikes and Boyce. And that doesn't include the 8 players that the Patriots reached injury settlements with.

Our depth has definitely been tested this year and is proving to be up to the task.

BTW, I'd like to see another team that has lost what the Pats have in Vollmer, Spikes, Wilfork, Mayo, Gronkowski and Kelly do as well as the Pats have.

He was a statue, with an torn acl, but once in a while you'd see a runner stop short and slam to the ground like wile e Coyote hitting an anvil.

Can't do much more than that with no knee.

This suck every one is going down for us.

Yeah, it's a month old. I posted it in response to those who think we are the only team with lots of injuries.

Obviously, we've been obsessing about an incredible string of injuries to all pros. I don't think I need to reiterate that.

The Colts just signed Deion Branch.

Your point is good about replacing them. No one could, because we build for depth and have about as good management as anyone for in season adjustments.

Colts just lost a CB and a DE, giving them room for Branch and a practice squad receiver.

I'd wager that was Spikes last game as a Patriot. I'd also bet he's siged by somebody in the division.
