49ers place CB Nnamdi Asomugha on waivers

Re: What is deal w/ Asomugha ?? avail not to us

I thought initially we should take a look at him, but he is coming from a reputable system and did nothing... not sure what the problem is, but do not want to pick up a guy who will be chasing guys down the sidelines...

Unless he can move to safety if Gregory is done...

The mighty often fall...

He's an even more timid tackler than Gregory is. You don't want to see him at safety. If Talib is out and Arrington has to move outside, he's a capable bump and run nickel corner, though.

He's cleared waivers

We NEED to sign him for some depth and give him a chance here. Especially if Talib goes down. I'm positive Asomugha can cover better on the outside than Arrington

The Pats don't need to sign him. Talib will be back after the bye. The Pats do not need a big name CB who couldn't make the active roster week after week because he is washed up.

Yet another case of people falling in love with the name of the player than actually looking at the production. He would be the fourth best CB on this team if he was signed. Possibly fifth best.

Steve Gregory is a timid tackler? Tell that to Darren Sproles, among others this year who've taken pretty big hits from him!

No, BB want everyone to tackles, this guy literally run away from a RB.

You pay corners to cover

I don't think he's that bad at tackling anyway

Anyways I'd take my chances on having him cover better than Arrington on a long, down-field pass (let's say 45 yards) rather than the slight chance a RB runs way outside and he's responsible to make the tackle, likely along with another Patriot player in the area to help too

Ok, He is below average at covering. And he is definitely bad at tackling.

Kind of crazy that this guy was one of the most sought-after free agents, and justifiably so, a little over 2 years ago, and now his career might be over. And that's without any off-field baggage. He hit 30 and went downhill fast.

Do we have room for him? Who would they cut to sign him?

It's just a depth question. I mean I really don't want to see Arrington on the outside and on the cheap he could provide that. His problem was zone coverage. He might be not the great man coverage corner he was but if Talib is injured again we definitely could use him. Not a must but wouldn't hurt either.

He is atleast worth a look. I REALLY don't want to see Arrington on the outside again

In the past he has been. I will admit, though, that he has improved in that area this year.

It's like another guy is wearing the uni, both in coverage and tackling. For me, unexpected.

I can't quite put my thumb on it.

Sorry

Its easier to focus on the game and make big hits when you're not lost in thought trying to make sure you remember your assignments.

SIGN THE BEAST!! Haha, only kidding. We don't need an old CB.

he is washed up...next

What a fall. I may be wrong, even when he signed with the Eagles there didn't seem to be a huge fight to get him, though he got a good contract. I remember the board hoping he would be a savior CB for us. If there was no interest by BB two years ago, I can't see there being now.
