I've seen a lot of Scott this past year. If you go back and look at the Texas OSU game, You'll see an above average run blocker and pass protector with good footwork, good knee bender, excellent hip sinker on the few bull rushers he faced and a tremendous hand puncher followed by excellent explosion at the snap of the ball.
My only problem with Scott is his lack of a killer instinct. He's not a mauler. He's not nasty enough.
The thing that impressed me most with Mankins and Kazcur was their nastiness, especially from Mankins. Kazcur started slowly, but then he started getting after it a bit more. I think we need to continue the nastiness trend. That's why Whitworth would be ideal for the Pats. With the abundnace of OTs in the draft, we could prabably trade down a quite a few spots and still get him.
Whitworth needs to upgrade the footwork some, and he doen't always bend his knees, but he's more than capable as a pass blocker and a very good as a run blocker and has exceptional punch at the snap of the ball. The sliding and the mirroring need some technique work as well. Clearly he's an upgrade over Gorin or Ashworth, both of whom, lack nastiness.
Bottom line is we MUST protect Brady. He took an axcessive number of hits this past year and it may have led to his hernia. A healthy Brady is our best weapon, we MUST protect him. I don't see a trade for Jones of Seattle or Pace of St. Louis or Ogden of Baltimore in the cards for us, so that means the draft. And outside of "da Brick" I don't see an OT in this draft that fits the Pats scheme and has the required amount of nastiness.
