I think that would take care of the O-Line for a few years.
Thoughts?

I'd be happy with him. It all depends on who is available at #21. But if Scott is there, i would hope we would pick him up. As they say, the game is won in the trenches. The D-line is solid. And Scott would solidify the O-line. Light-Mankins-Koppen-Kaczur-Scott. ALot depends on what they do with Neal. If he gets re-signed, then I can't see them going after Scott. They will more then likely pick someone up in the later rounds.

Scott clearly has exceptional ability, but profiles of him tend to read as opposites of the profiles of Mankins and Kaczur last year. Underachiever, doesn't make the most of his physical talents, inconsistent technique, plays without aggression.

I read were they like Marcus McNeil.

Scott was a good run blocker and good pass blocker on the right side in his All Star game, he needed help on the left side. I don't see him round one, but a good value in round two.

McNeil played heavy footed and was struggling a great deal in the Senior Bowl, I can't see him in round one.

Here are a few alternatives if Scott is not there or if BB decides to wait til after round 1 to address the OT position. Most of these guys should be there in rounds 2-3.

Andrew Whitworth-LSU-OT 2nd-3rd round?

Ryan O'Callahan-California-OT 2nd-3rd round?

Daryn Colledge-Boise St.-OT 2nd round?

I like trueblood...

i think we'll wait till round 3 for OL help...it's a deep draft...BB could draft the fifth or sixth rated OT and convert him into a good guard inside kaczur (whom already has a year of NFL experience at tackle and was a tackle in college). though if jean-gillies slipped to our second round slot, i might take him and hope stovall slipped to our first third round pick

I've seen a lot of Scott this past year. If you go back and look at the Texas OSU game, You'll see an above average run blocker and pass protector with good footwork, good knee bender, excellent hip sinker on the few bull rushers he faced and a tremendous hand puncher followed by excellent explosion at the snap of the ball.
My only problem with Scott is his lack of a killer instinct. He's not a mauler. He's not nasty enough.

The thing that impressed me most with Mankins and Kazcur was their nastiness, especially from Mankins. Kazcur started slowly, but then he started getting after it a bit more. I think we need to continue the nastiness trend. That's why Whitworth would be ideal for the Pats. With the abundnace of OTs in the draft, we could prabably trade down a quite a few spots and still get him.

Whitworth needs to upgrade the footwork some, and he doen't always bend his knees, but he's more than capable as a pass blocker and a very good as a run blocker and has exceptional punch at the snap of the ball. The sliding and the mirroring need some technique work as well. Clearly he's an upgrade over Gorin or Ashworth, both of whom, lack nastiness.

Bottom line is we MUST protect Brady. He took an axcessive number of hits this past year and it may have led to his hernia. A healthy Brady is our best weapon, we MUST protect him. I don't see a trade for Jones of Seattle or Pace of St. Louis or Ogden of Baltimore in the cards for us, so that means the draft. And outside of "da Brick" I don't see an OT in this draft that fits the Pats scheme and has the required amount of nastiness.

thanks for some good info guys

I just want to see one more OL to protect Brady. We have a few more SB's to win before this run is over!

O'Callaghan is solid. Scott is ok but I AGREE depends who is on the board. winston justice looks like a solid rt as well. I want rb

I'm seeing a lot of posts where people are obsessed with spending high round draft picks on the O-line. I don't see O-line as a top priority in the Draft. I hope that they don't spend anything higher than a 3rd round pick on O-line.

Kurt -
O-line is a priority, though. The Pats will, most likely, lose one and possibly 2 O-linemen in Neal and Ashworth. The free agency market for O-linemen isn't great at all. It would be better for the Pats to bring in a youngster who can play either guard or tackle. Like they did last year with Mankins and Kaczur.

Now, if the Pats, by some miracle, retain both Ashworth and Neal, then I see the Pats only drafting a late round C/G to develop behind Koppen.

That's how I feel about RB. Every time I see a RB projected to us in the first round I want to puke.

OL - we have a 28 year old Hall of Fame QB. I would spend whatever is necessary in draft choices to protect him. Honestly, if the value were OK I'd take a RT in round one and a RG in round two.
