Re: Sanders

No thanks. We have other places to spend the money now.

Back then the murderer was still on the team. We now need another TE. We need at least one interior OL, maybe two. We need another DT, maybe two depending on Wilfork. We need a CB (or need to spend big money on Talib).

They're all bigger needs than a good but not great WR. We took our shot, didn't get him and filled the position through the draft.

No, I don't think so honestly. Only Amendola is on a good contract from the WR corp and the rest of them will be on their rookie contracts or on very low contracts. Maybe Edelman will get rewarded for his good season

Keeping Talib shouldn't be a question anymore. If it's necessary, franchise him, he is worth the tag. After drafting horribly in this area I really don't want them to think they can adress it with high draft picks. Tavon Willson Ras-IR Dowling, Chung, Merriweather,Wheatley, Butler only writting all those names brings up so much anger.

A DT, TE ,C and Guard would be nice but that's something we can adress through the draft. The way BB was after Sanders repedeatley makes me think we will see him here next season and that he has some kind of special plan for him and this offense. They not only tried it before the draft, they tried it many times even before trade deadline, but Steelers thought they still had a chance for the play offs. Don't forget we asked our selves what the **** he wants to do with so many tigh ends in 2010 and it proved to a be the beginning of something special.

Sanders made sense for this year because we were not sure how the rookies would work out. However, seeing how Dobson is performing and will continue to improve over the next few months plus the additional year for the other rookies; I don't think we need him anymore.

if a have to pay big money for a number 2/3 WR i prefer brake the bank for a real number 1....

I'm in agreement there. Interested to see where Dobson goes from here.

Re: Sanders

I would expect that interest in Sanders would depend on how the team feels about Josh Boyce. If they feel Boyce can make the leap in his second season and contribute as a 3rd or 4th receiver then I would not expect us to make another run at Sanders, if they lack that confidence I could envision them pursuing him again this offseason.

I'm sure Boyce has no effect on their acquisitions. He needs to worry about getting cut if he can't get some snaps.

Re: Sanders

Sanders makes little sense for the 2014 pats. He would have been a nice addition to the 2013 pats. Thompkins and Dobson are both on pace to be the most successful rookie WRs in the TB era. Assuming that the continue to progress and make the second year leap along with Boyce I can't see a spot for Sanders.

Won't be shocked if they go to Danny and ask for a reduction in price and or cut him.. We've seen in the past they've given deals out and then cut the vet a year later.. Guy can't stay on the field and any $$ given to him has been to much

My god, I just found out his cap hit would be over 6 million.. This has to be one of the worst deals ever handed out by the pats.. DAMN

They better draft another WR.. Supposedly deep.. If Boyce and KT don't step up a little by seasons end

Are we going to get any cap room back from APurp and that Bengals lineman for 2014?

Danny isn't getting cut or taking a pay cut. Why is the amendola hate so high?? Because he is the better option than the "drop the most important passes" welker??

Stop it.. Just stop it.. While I stand corrected due to the $$ the Pats gave him, Danny can't even hold Wes jock strap..

Would rather have Cotchery - he has ALWAYS killed us.

Danny hasn't even been with us a season and your bagging on him? Wow bro. Could you maybe think that the offense might have changed philosophies?? We had to go outside for the first 6 games. We had no middle of the field essentially. Now that he is healthy (won't be 100% because that injury will keep him lower than that in terms of short yardage quickness). And we have gronk we can use the middle of the field. Heck he had 1 TD and over 100 yards receiving, that's welker numbers isn't it?
Welker was ok, but he had the knack for shrinking in the spotlight (amendola made huge plays to help us win game 1).

Welker was a true slot guy, Danny can do more than welker and be an outside receiver also. Maybe its reversed.........

This is the big question. We get that money back and i can't see why we wouldn't sign Sanders to that 4-5 mill deal. IMO he is a legit reciever in this league and runs all the routes with both speed and quickness.

Watching the last game i can really see why the pats want him and i can't see why the steelers would let him go.

The cap situations of both teams will be the biggest factor in my opinion.

The Steelers are not in a good place, cap-wise; so they may be forced to move on without him. N.England also has to watch its cap very closely, as we currently only have 4.5 million in room for next season and have a ton of our own very important players to sign within the next 16 months.

If Sanders is on their radar, fine. If not, we'll move forward with Amendola, Dobson, Thompkins, and maybe (hopefully) Edelman who is also a FA. I would also imagine that the Pats will be doing their usual bargain shopping for experienced vets who would come cheap. Personally, I don't view the upcoming free agency period as one where the team will be able to spend too much money on outsiders, but that's just my opinion.

your right, its not the same offense.. They have had to simplify it because the playing time by rookies and Danny being hurt.. If welker was here, that would not be the case

Just some lite facts:
Danny has highest yd total is 689.. Welker's total hasn't been that low since 2005.
Danny is has only played 1 full season, Welker has 6

DA best plays have been from the slot or in motion, basically Welker's position..

What we've seen of Danny this year, is a typical season of Danny. banged up, not able to make plays because he's not on the field.. While Welker continues to shine

Welker definitely dropped some balls that were tough to swallow.. but he's part of the reason we got there.. Right now, Danny hasn't shown us the ability to put us in that position.

We could debate this until pigs fly.. But I rather have had Welker back and I would think Mr. brady would agree.. I don't think Tom would be having this much issue on 3rd down if Wes was playing?

They reached a settlement with Fanene. They agreed to let him keep the bonus he already received but not the deferred bonus. The end result is that the Patriots will receive $1.35M in cap credit in 2014.

Hernandez is a different story. Not only is it unlikely that they will receive full retribution for 2014 (i.e. the current $7.5 cap hit in 2014), it's possible they could take a further hit in should Hernandez win his grievance. That amount is estmated at around $1.825M. Could hit the 2013 cap if grievance is resolved in this year, 2014 if resolved next league year. From a practical perspective it's a 2014 impact since we're past the trading deadline and excess 2013 cap space would be rolled into 2014. Of course, the Pats could get about $1.2M back that's currently hitting the 2013 cap if they win the grievance. Any resolution on the $7.5M will likely not take place until/unless he's convicted, and that would likely hit the 2015 cap at the earliest.

I was a huge Wes fan, but all things being equal (both healthy) Danny is a far better WR.

No, he's not. History's shown that quite convincingly. Also, "all things being equal" is just a way to try buttressing Amendola's position, since actually being able to play the game is part of ..... playing the game".
