Per source, Danny Amendola has been cleared and will play for the Patriots tomorrow.

No surprise there.

Get well Talib and ready to roll for the home stretch.

sucks...hopefully have him back after buy

Florio didn't even bother with his "anonymous source", "rumor has it" etc. "Is believed" has to be the bare minimum of journalistic assignations when you want to take a guess.
Despite the more encouraging classification, Talib currently is believed to be closer to not playing than playing.

Unfortunate he won't be out there tomorrow, but I'd like to see him healthy before he comes back.

As an aside, are the people who complain about the Pats signing Amendola to a long term contract the same ones asking for Talib to be signed to a long term contract?

Great point.

Possibly another valid question: how do the Patriots handle this situation during any contract negotiations? Do they press for surgery in the offseason if he's going to be around on a long term deal? Does Talib agree? Inquiring minds want to know...

Talib has been our MVP this year. This may be the first time in the Brady era that someone other than Brady has held that title, but I don't see how anyone can argue that.

Sucks that he won't play, but should be interesting to see Amendola and Gronk on the field at the same time.

I'm glad that they are not rushing him back too soon. Last thing we need is to bring him back before he's 100% healthy.

I get what you're saying, but I'm going to argue that right off the bat.

No one is going to overtake Tom Brady as the most important player on the entire team, especially this year when he's been babysitting the new group of receivers. Could you honestly imagine Ryan Mallett attempting to do that?

Talib is very, very important--just as Wilfork and Mayo were too. That said, we'd better get used to trying to win without him. Bracket coverage, safety help, Dennard, Arrington, McCourty switching back and forth in base/subs---however it can be done will need to be explored. Even if/when Talib comes back, you just never know when he'll go down again with the exact same thing. Look at last December and January for examples.

I blame this all on the "who's the most important player we can't lose to injury" thread...

In lieu of the reports that he wasn't moving too well in practices this week, this news isn't surprising at all.

I don't expect to see Talib again until the MNF game against Carolina.

I too am hoping that is the route they take in this instance. Normally I would be lobbying for a player to come back as soon as they were healthy enough to contribute, but in the case of a nagging injury like the hip, with a player as important as Talib, I'd much rather give him the full 5 weeks of rest.

Bringing him back after a couple of games did not work last season, and while it may not work again, it's probably worth exploring a different approach of a longer recuperation time. None of us want to see this come up again down the stretch of the next couple months, so they'd better let the damn thing heal.

I wouldn't expect Talib back until Week 11 at the earliest. The Patriots know how important he is to this team and need him to be as close to 100% as possible for the long run. I'd say the same thing goes for Tommy Kelly. It also wouldn't surprise me to see Armstead begin practicing this upcoming week and then debuting in Week 11.

This team has been riddled with injuries since Week 1, and the completed product has seldom been on the field together. Obviously, on defense, Wilfork and Mayo are down for the count, but I think overall, on both offense and defense, if this team can get through today and next week relatively unscathed, they will be able to finally pull it all together after the bye.

Official: Talib out against Chum

This is what I'm hoping for as well. The home stretch and playoffs are when we really need these guys healthy and playing at a high level.

The guy is a beast and he will cash in somewhere, if not here. However, that hip thing is a nagging thing that doesn't seem fixable. This thing will likely follow him throughout his career.
