Team preparing bids for Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks - CBSSports.com

Among the teams holding internal discussions about him, according to club sources, were the 49ers and Falcons (who lost Julio Jones for the season but are not conceding the season … at least certainly not yet). New England and Baltimore are also contending teams in need of an upgrade at receiver, and the market for Nicks would be robust, sources believe, if the Giants express a willingness to listen to offers.

I'll believe it when I see it. The article says that the price would be as high as a 3rd rounder. Hard to imagine giving that up for a guy who will probably get overpaid this offseason.

Nowhere does it say in that article the Pats have interest. It just says that the Pats are a contending team that needs an upgrade at receiver.

They should make a trade with the Giants but not for Nicks. Offer a low round pick for TE Brandon Myers, he only signed a one year deal with them.

This. All it says is pats need a WR. Wont happen. Too late for a new guy to come in and learn the system and be useful

Tony Gonzalez is a more likely scenario, considering Dimitroff and Belichick are tight.

Trade all our wide outs to the giants and watch them catch everything thrown remotely in their direction.

Eh, I'd give him a look but I would not give up a 3rd round for him. Maybe a 4th.

i agree, we need a starting caliber TE much more than we need a WR right now

Dobson and KT are showing great promise, and edelman has shown he can handle slot duties while Danny recovers from yet another injury

even when Gronk comes back another great TE would allow us to mix and match this years offense with the offense from last year, with the offense from '07

we dont need WRs

Austin Collie says hi...;)

Even if this rumor had some truth to it, no disrespect to these other guys, but I'm fine with group they got. Warts and all.

Bringing in a guy like Nicks doesn't help their development at all. I believe this group can win a Super Bowl together this year. They'll continue to improve. Gotta stick with what got you here.

Meh....The Vikings are done and Jared Allen will not be signed there next year.

How about an offer for one of the best Qb pressure guys in the game?

I would assume it would cost serious $$$$ though...and a high draft pick.

Pretty sure the Pats don't have enough cap room to pay him after trading him this season, much less in the future.

Also, trading high picks for old players is the kind of silliness that Belichick takes advantage of, not does himself. It's how the Pats ended up with their new left tackle.

Austin collie worked out with the pats few times before..was kind of on their shadow roster. not the same as nicks.

Fair point.

A TE trade makes way more sense than a WR trade.

If this happens, you will have 30 other NFL owners protesting and trying to block the trade! :) It'd be like McHale trading KG to the C's. Hahaha. Gonzalez and Gronk, let me dream about that for a second.

At this point, I'd be thrilled with Gronk or Tony.

Coughlin and Belichick are also relatively close. But, nobody is going to give the Patriots (or any other contending team) a discount.

We need DTs more than WR or TE right now.
