Dez Bryant vs Devin McCourty

Anyone watching Dez put on a show today?

That's not the issue. The question is whether he would have survived long enough to develop. Back in 2010 and 2011, the Dallas sports media were wondering if Dez would even make it to the end of his rookie contract, let alone become a star.

Agree

Bryant has more talent than McCourty.. No question about it.. And I feel BB and his staff is better than then one they have in Dallas.. BB is known to put players in position to succeed and can only imagine what Bryant would have looked like in a Pats uni..

while Devin is steady, Dez is a game changer every time he steps on the field..

I think we all get what you guys are saying with Bryant having obvious talent, but you're continuing to look back in hindsight and compare apples to oranges.

Just because someone is doing well in another team's offense doesn't mean they'd have done well in ours, so that's really what it comes down to.

Doesn't the fact that devin had to switch positions put an end to this argument?

Actually reminded me a lot of Wilfork (with more baggage) but a talent like that dropping so low and we trade back 2x.. Wasn't hindsight..

Yes. I also watched McCourty put on a show today.
All he did was get his name called once. Clearly he sucks. Why couldn't he pick up that fumble for a touchdown?

This argument at this point is not even debatable. It's over.

Didn't BB trade down twice in that 2010 draft and not only avoid Dez Bryant, but also avoid Demarious Thomas before the McCourty pick ?

2010 NFL Draft Results and Analysis: Round 1 - National Football League - ESPN

I believe the debate centers more on BB's foolhardy drafting in missing the "mad skills" of Dez Bryant by selecting McCourty over him. Apparently, that point is far from settled, and you are just pointing to the draft decisions that prompt the debate. We will assume, for purposes of the discussion, that one offense is the same as another, and a player can simply be added to a team with the same results.

And the fact that Dez racked up those fantasy points yesterday simply adds gasoline to the fire. McCourty offered virtually nothing on the fantasy football front against the Bengals.

Dunno about a regular rules league but he got me 33.8 points in a custom rules league :p (return yardage etc all count towards the points)...Dez Bryant got 40.1 so not that much better in fantasy land!

Please...no logic allowed. All along BB knew that McCourty would "ease" out of the CB position, that Talib would be traded for, and the Nebraska penal system was rife with talent

By the by, McCourty is currently ranked by PFF as the best overall safety (and fourth best coverage safety) in the NFL based upon his performances this year. Than goodness he was so bad he had to have his position switched.

That can't be true. According to Triumph McCourty is Tebucky Jones redux.

His plus/minus is +7.1, which places him second behind, wait for it...James Ihedigbo at +9.9. That fact may give Pats fans something to think about when assessing the validity of these rankings.

Ihedigbo gets there based upon his run defense (I don't think anyone here would take issue with that aspect of his game). Ihedigbo is 13th in terms of coverage.

In fairness from what I've seen Ihedigbo belongs nowhere near a top safeties list.

PFF is crap. People using it weaken their own arguments in the process.

Genuine question and not sarcasm. Have you seen him this year?

I'm going to guess at no because a Ravens fan I talk to questions why myself & a Jets fan called Ihedigbo horrible.

Had a very quick look at a Ravens forum and they seemed to like him too. I'm pleased he's having a good year.
