I read that he's experienced a reduction in infection symptoms that makes them believe that the infection has been successfully treated. If so, that's great news.

The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the Patriots haven't addressed Gronkowski's health situation in depth, said doctors are hopeful the infection that's prolonged Gronkowski's recovery is gone because the symptoms he's been experiencing have subsided.

Generally you wouldn't want to perform this type of surgery if an infection is still present, so their scheduling the surgery would most likely indicate that his infection has at least calmed down, or is completely gone.
