If you were talking about 1980's type TEs, I'd agree with you. However, this isn't the 80's and the TEs and significantly more athletic. Heck, as many people point out, Hernandez is basically a WR with his ability.
Please show me a defense that can cover a healthy Gronkowski, Hernandez, and Ballard being on the field at the same time.
Let me tell you what I see in that situation. I see the opposing team having nightmares because there are very few people who can cover Gronkowski, whether they are a CB, LB or S. Hernandez can't be covered by a LB. Ballard is another one that can't be covered by a LB.
A CB may be able to stay with Hernandez, but I can't think of any that can out-muscle him for the ball.
You put a RB like Vereen on the field who can come out of the backfield to catch a pass and a WR on the field like Lloyd or Amendola and that's a match-up nightmare for opposing teams.
