Bears fan follows through on vow, changing name
Associated Press

DECATUR, Ill. -- He doesn't want to do it, but diehard Chicago Bears fan Scott Wiese is changing his name.

The 26-year-old Forsyth man told friends that if his beloved team didn't win the Super Bowl, he'd become Peyton Manning after the Indianapolis Colts star quarterback.

He even signed a petition in front of 200 people last week at Decatur's Katz Piano Bar that he'd do it.

After the Colts defeated the Bears 29-17 on Sunday, Wiese started the process.

He trudged to the Macon County Courts Facility yesterday and filed the paperwork. The change still has to be approved by a judge.

Wiese says he really cares about the team and that his sacrifice represents the true passion of Bears fans.

Pretty foolish

Re: Bears fan changes name to Peyton Manning after lost bet

Wow. What a dope. He has two choices:

1) Eat crow in front of his friends for a few minutes by saying, no he won't change his name, and be teased for a few days, or

2) Change his name, carry the lost bet for the rest of his life and be made fun of for the rest of his life.

Sometimes you just gotta say, "Look, I was drunk. I meant it at the time but now I'm sober."

Well, I am pretty sure that the judge will shoot it down from the stand point that you don't want the guy impersonating a celebrity. Other than that, its funny.

Re: Bears fan changes name to Peyton Manning after lost bet

one thing is to say it that is stupid in its self, but to actually do it there isnt many brain cells floating around the new mr. Peyton Manning

In how many different languages can you say, "Get a Life?"

Re: Bears fan changes name to Peyton Manning after lost bet

A Peyton Manning by any other name... is still a dumbass

Re: Bears fan changes name to Peyton Manning after lost bet

What was SATAN, not good enough for him?

If he really wanted to ruin his life,Why didn't he change his name to REX GROSSMAN!

Because he didn't want to go into the phone book as Rex Grossman. Haven't you seen The Terminator?

Ha ha ha. Maybe it's just my English sense of humour, but that's pretty funny. Fair play to him for actually doing it after he lost.

I would love sports more if not for the idiot fans I feel the need to distance myself from.

People take others throwing, kicking, or hitting balls way too seriously.

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica] Macon County Judge Katherine McCarthy ruled this week that Wiese can't legally call himself Peyton Manning because it would be too confusing and might infringe on the privacy of the Indianapolis Colts quarterback.

Good call by you!

The real SuperBowl was 2 weeks before that game was played. Da-Bears NEVER had a chance in that game. I don't care how close it was in the 4th quarter.

Scott Wiese's father Archie was devastated by the judge's decision. " I guess Scott will have to find happiness being a meatcutter. My other son Eli will join him in the meatcutting trade. Right now, though, they both have long faces as a result of this ruling. Our attorney, Billy Polian feels a great injustice has taken place. The ruling was unpatriotic. My son Scott also expressed disappointment in his legal team. The defensive effort could have been better."

He must have known that the judge would not approve the name change over a lost bet.

Screw him. I hope the judge is from Indiana.

I can't believe I found this article.

Peyton can now wear the name with pride, unlike...........

"Peyton Manning wasn't happy the way the Patriots ended his season. At Edith's restaurant in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, the other night, Manning 'looked totally dejected and had a **** on his face of 'Don't bother me,' a spy reports. Peyton drank Coronas and his wife, Ashley, sipped margaritas. 'Everyone knew who he was, including the Mexican waitstaff . . . He kept telling the waiters, 'This week I am known as Javier Lopez.'"

"Manning devoured a platter of shrimp, lobster tail and filet mignon, but 'he was avoiding all eye contact with everyone else in the restaurant and stared out into space a lot,' said our witness. 'At one point, his wife asked him if he was listening to her and when he did not respond, she grabbed his hand and asked him again and he said despondently, 'No, I was thinking about football.' And when it came time to pay the bill, the wife said she would put it on her credit card since it is the same account, and he said, 'Believe me, I know.''

Well I think that just about proves Peyton Manning cares about football.
