Jacob Hester - Fullback of the Chargers - come on over! Shouldn't be exposed to waivers as an '08 pick.

Undrafted Jeff Maehl of Oregon fame was let go by the Texans. He was on the practice squad last year then activated for the last 3 games and caught zippo.

Once Maehl was hailed as the second coming of Welker, maybe a little faster. He's a tough nut. Don't know why he made no progress in Houston but he might fit right here - then we'd have three smurfs! Edelman, Welker and Jeff Maehl. He seemed to be Brady's kind of guy last year before the draft. He's a gamer.

His draft overview from nflsoup.com-

Position: Wide Receiver

School: Oregon

Height: 6’1

Weight: 190

Hand: 9 1/8

40 Time: 4.62

Strengths

Maehl is a fiery competitor and an offensive leader, stepping up in the moments when his team needs him the most, and performing in the clutch when asked. These traits were perfectly on display in Oregon’s loss to Auburn in the 2011 BCS title game, where he was a focal point of the offense, and caught the game-tying two-point conversion near the end of the game.

Maehl doesn’t possess elite speed, but he’s not far off. Regardless, he has great speed with the pads on, and is a threat to break a big play anytime the ball is in his hands. In addition to his solid speed, Maehl is a natural, fluid athlete, and can work the seams for any pass, while possessing excellent route-running ability and the understanding of angles and defensive coverage.

While shifty and athletic, Maehl also provides his team with reliable hands and a knack for the tough catch, while never showing fear in going over the middle, or going up for a ball. Maehl won’t leave his quarterback hanging, and rarely drops even the toughest of passes. Maehl excels on screen passes and intermediate routes, while also displaying an ability to reel in deep passes and fight for passes in the air. Maehl is also a stellar blocker at the college level.

Weaknesses

Maehl shows flashes of big-play speed and ability, but when timed, it just hasn’t matched up. He benefited from playing in a weak Pac-10 conference, but still came up big against a tough SEC team in Auburn on college’s biggest stage. Regardless, as a skill player at the next level, he’ll have to prove he can separate against NFL corners, while possessing enough speed to make the same plays in the pro’s as he did in college.

With speed in question, Maehl will also have to face size and durability concerns, as he doesn’t have a huge frame and at first glance is a tad wiry. His frame actually suits the slot position at the next level, but he’ll still need to bulk up to handle the rigors of the beating slot receivers experience at the next level. Not going up against elite competition on a consistent basis in his career may also hinder his draft stock, although his impressive BCS title game showing should curb some of those concerns.

Draft Range

Maehl has inconsistent 40 times when timed, so how he performs at the 2011 NFL Combine will largely impact his draft stock. He has the field speed and hands of an NFL slot receiver, with the ability to make big plays. He definitely has a place at the next level, but still doesn’t quiet match up with many of the more explosive receivers ahead of him. Look for Maehl to be plucked by a team looking for a well-rounded receiver somewhere in the third or fourth round.

NFL Player Comparison: Jordan Shipley

One of the knocks on him is that he's is very unphysical, while he's very skilled at finding holes in zones he gets dominated by tough press coverage. I want a physical receiver that can beat tough press coverage in the post season.

Burfict a Bengal??...purfict

Sounds like a good idea for the pissing off of the Jets fans, but who would we release in favor of Gannaway?

Here's a name:

Hayden Smith, TE, Jets.

He's the rugby star that they brought over and the OTG had been pimping long before that. I mean it's already funny that our former rugby player is better than theirs, but he looks like a ton of potential and they obviously want to sneak him to the PS.

This could be Woodhead part Deux AND he's a TE! TE's are BB's cowbell.

Well count me among those who were extremely impressed with him. He probably was the most effect QB the Pats faced this pre season

I liked both the Arizona and Arizona State (Foles and Osweiler) QBs this year and feel they have a good chance in the pros

you've got to be a pretty bad O-lineman to not stick in that group.

Which is why I don't think that we are getting an even halfway decent swing OT from the cuts. The state of many OL's seem to be horrible and some teams don't even have legitimate starters never mind backups.

We're going to have to work with what we have. Maybe there will be someone worth developing on the PS but nobody is walking through that door as our 3rd OT. Plenty of teams would be salivating over Cannon if we were dropped IMO.

Why Matt, why???? One more season would have been perfect.

Raiders released Roscoe Parrish who they signed just last week.

Perhaps we can use him in the kick return game and as a low depth WR on a current short list since most of our returners aren't very good.

Interesting ones for me where

Alphonso Smith (former 2nd rounder)
Everette Brown (Former 2nd rounder) DE
Jacob Hester (formaer 3rd rounder and the guy picked so we could get san diego's 2nd rounder in what? 09/10?)
Wheatley and Butler were once again released by their teams.

Hightower by Washington is a bit interesting.

I will admit to being one f those that thought the Pats should sign Hightower rather than Addai. Considering the Pats passed on him and the Redskins released him I would guess that he is still not 100% healthy from his knee injury last October.

While on the subject of the Redskins, safety Tanard jackson was suspended for one year for failing a drug test for the third time. I recall several people here wanting the Pats to add him at one point not all that long ago.

I'm a fan of the potential of Maurice Stovall a 6-5 WR just cut from Detroit. Also because of Hard Knocks I see '7-11' Chris Hogan as a fitting New England Patriot. I'm a believer in the fact our roster isn't set yet and believe we'll add 1 or 2 WR (although 1 of those I believe will be Gaffney eventually) to the roster. Think these 2 are worth a look.

Living in the Tampa area I got a chance to see Stovall quite a bit. Excellent blocker in the running game but that's all and could contibute on special teams. However, do not expect any more receptions from him than someone like Alge Crumpler provided; he's not going to add anything other than perhaps some downfield blocking to the passing game.

I'm kinda hoping the Pats give a look to former GB QB BJ Coleman. I worked Sports Med at his HS when he was QBing there. Kid is smart, loves football above else, came out of the womb a ******* presidential candidate but a hell of a lot less scumbagish. Think Tebow with less running, more accuracy and stronger arm, and more snarl. He broke my wrist with a hand shake in High school.

Coale is back with the Cowboys, on their practice squad

Pats supposedly one of several teams interested in QB Mike Klafka, cut by the Eagles after attempts to trade him failed:

Mike Kafka generating interest on waivers | ProFootballTalk

In true Florio fashion, there is now a report that DESPITE WAIVER CLAIM INTEREST Kafka went unclaimed.
What a nice twist to being wrong. You use you incorrect report as a fact to say that even though what you said was happening didn't, it didn't happen.
