I just heard the news. So sad.:( RIP Junior.

Awful news! True great of the game!

Thoughts with his family!

Re: Junior Seau has reportedly died

I had never heard of this.....do you have any links to other players having committed suicide by shooting themselves in the chest (heart) so that their brains could be evaluated for damages by multiple concussions? I am not challenging anything here....just a curiousity to something that I was not aware of. I was thinking someone else shot him because it seems odd that he would shoot himself in the chest....thanks

Monte Poole of the San Jose Mercury News has a great column with his take that connects the two, and you can tell he clearly loved him as a person and a player.

Jeez, if you're a member of the 94 Chargers, look out.

2 Heart Attacks, enlarged heart, drug overdose, lightning strike (WHAT?), plane crash, car crash, suicide.

NFL.com news: Seau the latest chapter in sad legacy of 1994 Chargers

It gets freakier. After beating the Steelers in the Championship game. The Charger QB coach's ex-wife (who lived in the Pittsburg area) called a friend and said "I should be going to <SB City> not her" referring to QB coachs's GF.
Ex-wife kills herself that night. After she is cremated, the son and daughter take her remains and plan to scatter them into the Pacific ocean in northern California. A wave knocks both of them off the rocks where they were standing and the daughter is killed. The son is found disorientated, wandering along the beach naked after the violent waves ripped his clothes off throwing him back and forth the rocks.

He came out of retirement THREE times to help Bill Belichick: 2006, 2008, and 2009.

Maybe, but more likely because a football field was the only place he ever felt completely comfortable.

One of the worst things about 2007 was not getting him his ring.

Too much:eek:
Lightning strikes, all kinds of crashes, suicides...and that story is beyond bizarre. Something's Weird Out West and quite honestly it's a few too many coincidences to me.

Re: Junior Seau has reportedly died

RIP, very sad news. Not sure what to think, except that I hope that this serves as a powerful reminder that we're only just starting to understand the effect that head trauma has on NFL players, and stuff like this happens far, far too often.

Indeed. The two most likely cases are:

  • Maybe he was locked onto the same awful path so many other guys have been.
  • Maybe it was beatable for him, but out of depression he thought it (probably) wasn't.

Re: Junior Seau has reportedly died

suicides gives me the creeps.

Same here. I happen to have known more people who died from suicide than who died in other sudden, violent ways (crash, murder, war, whatever).

Seeing his Mother's plea on TV is just heartbreaking. I hope that all of the people that Junior touched will somehow let his Mother know that as they turn their attention to comforting her.

This is really tough to hear.

But I can't feel sorry for him. Suicide is never the best path to follow.

I can't imagine what his family must be feeling right now. My condolences.

Unless you walked his path and felt his pain then you wouldn't know what he was going through.

I feel sorry for him and his family.

Sorry to hear this, always liked the guy,the way he played.RIP

Finally found a picture of my favorite Junior Seau moment:

RIP Junior. Loved you as a Pat player. May you find peace.

I am deeply saddened to a point that I cried today

What a great man,how I wish he could have sought help with any problems he had

To watch his mom in extreme anguish leaves my eyes wallowing in tears

God Bless You #55.......Jesus be with you now :(

Will miss his passion to the game and his years of being a proud Pat.

May he find peace.

Awful news is an understatement. I have no idea what he was going through but it is a damn shame that he felt this bad that he did this. I feel for his family and friends. That video of his mother breaking down and the part where she sept saying "Take me." is heartbreaking. Godspeed Junior and thanks for all the goodwill you spread to the children and the enjoyment you provided to millions of NFL fans.

My favorite Junior moment is when get got the ball on a turnover (unfortunately I don't remember if it was an INT or a fumble recovery but I think it was an INT) then he started to run while holding the ball up over his head. I was yelling what is he doing? I loved the press conference afterwards. BB was asked about it: He looked like he was going to answer it is his normal BB way were he says nothing bit then he just sighed said something to the extent of "I have no idea what goes on in Juniors head."

I heard about this on the way home from work. I saw and heard his mother's pain. It brought tears to my eyes. I can't even imagine what his family is going through right now.
I can't imagine the hoplessness and despair that Junior must have been feeling. This is all so sad. :(

You can't simply say suicide is not the best path to follow because you don't know how mentally depressed or unstable he was.

Suicide is NOT the answer but for someone with possible heavy depression that does not seek help, sometimes they will feel life is not worth living for.

You and I and everyone knows Junior had something to offer because he was a great man but maybe he felt something deep down inside that we may never find out or understand.

I can guarantee there are people who feel this way in just about every neighborhood but few go the length of taking their life, unfortunately Junior was not able to escape....it's horrible.

RIP Junior Seau ... very sad day ... prayers for family and friends.

The fact Seau chose to shoot himself in the chest seems like a premeditated decision -- considering several NFL players have recently killed themselves in a similar fashion in order to preserve their brains for research purposes ... in the wake of new studies which appear to connect football-related concussions to suicidal behavior.
