The Official NFL Draft Day 3 Thread

I think someone else made the picks in the first round for us......ever since then...it has been pure Bill Belichick!!!! Guys that are predicted to go in the 6th round taken in the 2nd.....guys that played more rugby than football and were NOT EVEN ON anyone's radar.....Taken in the 6th while MUCH Better positional players remain on the board. I am usually prepared for the typical BB draft....picking guys no one has heard of, taking guys that are predicted to go much later or not at all....early. But because he picked so WELL and somewhat consistently in the first.....threw me off my usual draft day mentality!!!!

Well, it has been painfully obvious for the past couple of rounds that the Pats were done, done done with this draft. They just didn't want any of the players you consider "MUCH better."

Given that, why not take a flyer on some super-raw guys who are great athletes with great intangibles and see what happens?

In all seriousness, there is probably nobody in the later rounds of this draft who BB thinks is an upgrade over anybody on the roster.

These late picks are for guys he probably wants to sign as UDFA, does not want to risk competition from other teams.

And really, if he is truly a rugby type nut who ends up being an absolute special teams beast, I like that from a 6th round pick.

Or Kiper's 33rd ranked DB would be better because at least there's a picture of him in the magazine?

Special teams plays this year:

Did ya see Ebnah, Chandlah and Highwatah demahlish those guys?

People need to understand ....BB has bigger balls than those ESPN frauds....

Just got in and saw that we drafted Nate Ebner?
I don't know but the guy sounds Amish.

WOw, just watched that YouTube video so many people here linked to. Powerful stuff; great character guy, someone you root for. Finish Strong -- nice motto for the Pats.

This. reading War room, who you replace on a roster is a key constituent for the Pats in putting together a grade. If they don't think you'll replace anyone on the roster, you probably don't get on the draft board at all.

There's always a run on ruggers just before the seventh round.
Patriots just prepared as always.

And there it is....kickbacks.

I'm sure Ventrone's nervous...

I guess that answers whether or not Vrabel may have said something to the Pats.

Also, in the thread that JackBauer linked, I find it interesting that the Pats had been in contact with Ebner back in March..

Fact: Ebner will make the 53 and be a special teams freak.

Fact: I will be in Gillette this year wearing my Ebner jersey. Wonder what number he will get?

I'm more excited about Ebner than Wilson. :bricks:

Let's hope BB once again proves his genius.

Clip from the Ebner announcement press conference:

"Yeah, well, I've been coaching this team over a decade now. You know retirement has to be out there somewhere. We've gone to the Super Bowl what, five times, something like that, over the past decade or so. I figure, I start the season, there's about a 50% chance we make it. So that's not really all that challenging. But has any coach ever taken a team to the Super Bowl with players without any actual football experience? So rugby is a start. You know I've been scouting lacrosse. So let's just wait until the seventh round, OK. Any other questions guys? No?"

Word is they are going to try and draft both Grimace and Mayor McCheese in the 7th.
