Strengths

Wilson has an excellent athletic ability and can fly around the field. He also has an ideal build for a safety at 6’0”, 205 pounds and can attack a player and create fumbles with his hits. He’s a smart leader as well and is known as a hard-working player.

His best part of his game is his special teams' abilities. He is an instant gunner for whoever drafts him and can still contribute as a depth safety. Also, he has an excellent blitz ability.

Weaknesses

He isn’t the most fluid athlete and has issues with coverage. He doesn’t have the best hips and isn’t the most instinctive player, either. He also has issues wrapping up his tackles and doesn’t always take the best angles.

Overview

He’s a true project at safety. He is not likely to contribute past special teams early on and is a likely role player.

2012 Possible Atlanta Falcons Draft Pick Profile: S Tavon Wilson | Bleacher Report

In fairness, most of the scouting report on McCourty said that he wouldn't be more than a special teamer early in his career. He woud have been DROY in most years that Suh wasn't a rookie.

Granted I am not holding out much hope for Wilson to be a DROY candidate.... or even a major contributor.

BB just wasted a 2nd round pick on a GUNNER ????

WTF

(edit) If he's an improvement over Sergio Brown it's a plus move

I'm sitting here still quite dumbfounded by this pick. I don't even want to watch anymore.

Amazing how people are flipping out now that Pats need a new GM etc. Yesterday they were nowhere to be found.:)

He has intangibles and leadership skills.

OK, so does mean they're done with drafting for the year and plan to trade the remaining pick into 2013?

Wouldn't be surprised....but why not trade that pick into next year too?

Let's give this kid a chance. Belichick's "reaches" according to these BSPN and NFLN mediots usually turn out pretty good.. Logan Makins WHO? Sebastian Vollmer WHO?. Bill is all about value if this guy did not have a second round grade or something close to it according to the PATRIOTS grading then he would not have been taken. Just because some losers at NFLN say he's not going to be drafted doesn't mean jack...if it did they'd be in front offices actually you know evaluating players for their job.

It's always the same story.

First everybody hates the pick.

Then there are reports that this was hardly a reach.

Then begin the idiotic comments "the more I see about this kid the more I like him".

He has a average pre season where half of this board thinks he was an animal out there.

And finally begins the weekly fight to be in the active roster, which he will constantly lose.

Yeah, either that or they turn into Terrance Wheatley or Bethel Johnson. But hey, he's a special teams gunner.

Can someone who knows college football players tell me how many *better safeties were passed up to get this guy?

Sounds like I heard this in reverse to players like Tom Brady,Wes Welker and James Harrison......you never know what's out there in the draft.

Don't even start the "he's a special teams player" crap...he's a safety. He might contribute on ST, but there was nothing more annoying then the "Pats picked a ST player in the 1st round" idiots in 2010.

the magazine I bought a couple weeks ago doesn't even have Wilson in it. BB must love him.

Same with me...and the magazine I have listed 19 safeties. BB must really like him since nobody else has heard of him.

I think the issue is that most teams feel this is a pretty weak draft, we probably moved up easily in the first round do to apathy with players. I suspect BB only wants few players now and wanted to trade down but no one is interested so he is just going to pick the players he wants and pack up.

But that must they're trying to dump #62 into 2013, because surely they can't be targeting another guy MORE likely to last to 62 than Wilson?

Yesterday at least one or two were saying the rest of the draft was gravy :D

Wow, effin awesome. Another piece of crap in the secondary with bad instincts that can't cover. Wasn't Sergio Brown and Ihedigbo enough?

someone in the scouting department had a hardon for this guy. No market for a trade down probably.

So then take him with your LASST pick. He wasn't going anywhere.

Bonehead wtf pick if there ever was one.

They never opened up the chests of Brady, A Foster etc. to see what they're like deep down and maybe this is another one. He could also be roster fodder.
