2012 Draft Binkies - FIU WR T.Y. Hilton, Florida RB Chris Rainey, BC ILB Luke Kuechly

WR T Y Hilton Florida Intl. Was a 1 man wrecking crew for FI. Not big at 5'10" 185, but has good speed and is a great return man, and very good slot WR.

RB Chris Rainey Florida. Small but very fast. A poor man's Percy Harvin. Can run and catch. I know we have Shane Vereen, but this guy is way more explosive.

ILB Luke Kuechly Boston College. Not really an unknown, just a sick tackling machine. I know he might go before we even draft, but he's one of my favorites. I heard he has bulked up to 242.

Who are some of your draft Binkies ?

WR Tommy Streeter [Miami]: A bit raw but has great size and combines that with legit downfield speed to get behind defenders. It's rare to see guys 6'4" or 6'5" as fast as him on film and whichever team drafts him could have a special weapon if he can learn to run the route tree at the NFL level.

ILB Mychal Kendricks [California]: A bit short at 5'11" but also plays up to his timed speed at the Combine like Streeter. Great hustle, quick to diagnose with a quick first step, and solid tackler. Reminded me of another MLB/ILB I liked last year in Colin McCarthy (out of Miami) who was also somewhat short at 6'1" and fell to the 4th Round but proved to be productive for Tennessee.

Dontari Poe - An absolute BEAST, what a physical speciman. He'd be a monster anywhere on a 3-4 or 4-3 D-line, yes, I'd put him at 4-3 DE, I think he could bullrush the hell out of the tackle on his way to the QB, that's not where I'd use him all the time but it could be done.

Coby Flenner - a wonderful TE/WR hybrid that will be a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses and give TFB another well deserved target.

Shea Mcclellan Boise State- listening to Mayock. a solid football player and that is what BB wants.

Fleming-CB- tough, tackles well smart and instinctive

Rainey-RB/WR-Florida- strong hands. quick as an eel in motor oil....

Hightower-LB-Bama- Solid football player. move him inside and shift Spikes to the outside and rush the passer.

I'd love to see Poe in the middle with Wilfork, what a sick DT combo. Don't think Poe would be a good DE, good straight ahead speed, but don't know if he'd be a good pass rushing DE. But what a massive disruptive force up the middle.

I'd love to see the Pats draft Flenner, a health Gronkowski with Fleener would be sick. But I see a team like the Jets using a high pick on him, I don't see the Pats doing it.

Agreed on Rainey, but his alleged off field stuff may hurt him here. But, don't sleep on Vereeniging. Dude can RUN.

McLellin- the OLB we need.

Cox- beast

I think my first 2012 draft post on this board was about being intrigued by Poe. Seemed to have the size and athleticism BB took a (minor) gamble he would get with Haynesworth. I imagine Poe will shoot up the boards after his Combine showing.

An aside: As someone who's not nearly as sophisticated in following of prospects as others here, I'll be curious to see who shoots up boards after Indy -- because when Combine numbers make prospects rise, they also make players fall, hopefully into the Patriots' laps.

It is interesting to track the binkies from past years; they have done pretty well...actually very well but for some reason they rarely end up on the Patriots....

Right now it's just Fleming and Childs.

CB: Chase Minnifield, Jamell Fleming, Casey Hayward, Ron Brooks.

DE/OLB: Andre Branch, Whitney Mercilus, Adrian Hamilton.

DT: Fletcher Cox, Devon Still, Dontari Poe, Dom Hamilton, Kendall Reyes, Derek Wolfe.

WR: AJ Jenkins, Jarius Wright, Junior Hemingway.

OT: Donald Stephenson

LB: Demario Davis, Danny Trevathan.

Just a few for right now. My mocks include many of these players.

I could see 2 of these players drafted very easily by the Pats. Maybe even earlier then they are projected. All are perfect fits imo.

Some binkies are just stronger than others (after all, Connor Barwin is now the patron saint of binkies :singing.

We need to diversify our binkies. That way, the few of us that end up happy can comfort the rest of us. We all picked Connor Barwin and then all wept without anyone to console us :lol2:

100% with you on this. Sanu and Criner are my two guys at WR and I stand by what I say about them. Someone said on here that it seemed the best true receivers were running slower whilst the guys that were more raw were running better 40 times.

We have made the mistake of drafting pure athletes for a deep threat before. Get some tall, physical receivers who run crisp routes. You can make up for slower 40 times with explosive breaks and good routes and knowledge of the game...both Criner and Sanu bring that to the table.

I don't actually think there's a smarter guy in the draft than Criner....watching through the receivers he is the best when it comes to stemming his routes and recognising/finding the gaps in zones. He thinks on the level of a QB.

Defensively I'm with Mayock on Trumaine Johnson. His official 40 time came in at a slower than I wanted at 4.61, but his arm length will make up for it tremendously. Plus, we're not really much of a man coverage team...the guys has sick instincts when it comes to reading the QBs drop and making plays on the ball in zone. Think he projects to be more of a safety if I'm honest and wouldn't complain if we drafted him fro that purpose.

Josh Norman is my over guy. Nice athleticism, height , build. Does zone and man both very well...nice arm length. Think he could become a nice talent in the NFL.
