One ESPN Poll , One Country split over Giants-Pats

It's pretty much the black sheep of the New England family of states. Being a Boston sports fan in Connecticut isn't much different than being a Boston sports fan in New York. The Connecticut Huskies celebrated their NCAA basketball championship at YANKEE STADIUM, ffs.

Connecticut is sadly split among THREE fan bases . . . only one of which is smart enough to root for the Pats.

OTOH, two of them are smart enough to realize the JEST suck. :p

Of course Connecticut would be in red. Can we disown that state from New England already? (Apologies to loyal Pats fans from CT, of course)

Couldn't have said it better myself. Much of CT is a NY wanna be state. F them and the Beamers they rode in on.

I'm frankly shocked. My first reaction was that the video thing is finally in the past, but upon further thought, I believe it's due the Giants' non-stop yapping.

Right now the Poll on ESPNs homepage is "Which team will win Super Bowl XLVI?"
of around 500K votes cast, exactly 50 percent of the Country roots for the Giants and the other half of the the Pats. A closer look at the map reveals that except New England and New york rest all states are split either 51%-49% or close to that .
Which is surprising to me as i thought majority of the ppl in this country hated the PATS.

No that's probably the majority of football enthusiasts who actually keep up with football, and that's mainly because Patriots beat everybody. The majority of the country actually likes the Patriots. They have been the new American's team for some time now.

But people forget the majority of the population who watches the Super Bowl don't know a damn thing about football. They just know it's Super Bowl Sunday. Heck there are people who watch it for the freaking commercials.

And because of that I now have to take a step back in awe and apologize to EPSN. I did NOT give these guys enough credit. With less than 2 days before the Super Bowl that poll said 50-50. Incredible. They knew what they were doing.

Everything we have heard about the Giants, along with the Patriots hate over the past two weeks was for that. For those numbers right there. To get them to do that. The nation is exactly split in half which means ......ratings will be incredible. And where did most people get their information? ESPN!

*clap* *clap* *clap*

Hey give credit where credit is due. They're damn good. And not at just swaying public perception, but perfectly getting it to match up at exactly 50-50. We really are total sheeps.

The vote might be split 50-50 out there, but here in Australia it's all Pats. Tally so far:

Patriots: 1
NYG: 0

Sorry people, but the question in the poll is asking " Who will win" not "Who do you want to win"

That is significant. Many people seriously see the Brady/ Bill duo as........
daunting.

I think that's because Australia still has control over their own media and reporting. And ESPN doesn't work for free...but with the right money give them access to your TV and...

Australia Pats fans now: 75%

Enter ESPN: "Breaking news. Inside source reveals Tom Brady said he doesn't like kangaroos".
Skip Bayless: "Gisele once shopped for a kangaroo fur coat. *Cue video of Tebow petting kangaroos.*"
Stephen A Davis: "That's disrespectful. Despicable."

After: 50% Opponent: 50%

Enjoy;)

Seriously. I'm willing to bet 80% of the people who voted in that poll make their decisions based on stories like that.

Unless you've bet on the game, who will win is the same as who do you want to win.

You don't know much about Connecticut. 20% of the Pats season tix fanbase resides in Ct. Much of Conn. is NY wannabe? If by much you mean the 25% sliver from Stratford to Greenwich, then yes. But the rest of the state outside of New Haven is majority Patriots. New Haven has always been the divide but even more so in this case because the Giants used to play at the Yale Bowl.

You have Fox showing Giants games each week in Ct., but guess what? The Jets have few fans because CBS in Ct. shows the Patriots.

Wha??????

Calhoun is a Sox fan who also celebrated at Fenway. The school is located 10 minutes from the Mass. border and has very few ties to Fairfield County.

Do you guys know anything about Connecticut? It doesn't sound like it.

CT guy here,

Our state is teeming with Giants fans. I hate them, but I think a lot of people don't realize before 1960 (Pats formed) New England was Giants country.

Some people never hopped onto Patriots wagon.

Also, a good number of the CT workforce works in NYC or is tied to that Fairfield county mentality (WE ARE NYers! they say)

I'm from Hartford County and wouldn't mind being absorbed into Mass and giving Fairfield to the culturally dissimilar goons down south.

There are two CBS stations that serve at least part of CT: the New York station that shows the JEST, and the Hartford station that generally shows Pats.

Who cares if the Giants are the most popular pick?

With California & Texas the Patriots win the electoral college.

It's official: New England Patriots - Super Bowl Champions!

I'm not a CT native, but I've lived here a few years now, and in just a few years, a few things are obvious.

Fairfield County is a NYC suburb. Mostly Yankee-Giants fans, and you'll probably find that a NY majority exists all the way to Waterbury-Bristol in the north and New Haven in the south.

I live in Bristol and it's probably 60-40 Pats here, but a lot of that might be Aaron Hernandez. It used to be 50-50.

CT is a lot like NJ I would guess. A big city to the north and a big city to the south, and the state is caught in the middle.

And yes, CT sucks...oh well.

2. Kraft tantalized the state with the Hartford move, and then when they returned to Foxboro (as they should have) it set back the building of the stadium for many years.

I hear people say this is a reason for the Pats not owning the state, but almost no one around here mentions it. I don't think it's a big deal unless you're a Hartford booster or whatnot.

Your intentions were good. Thank you. But you really shouldn't post a thread like this without a link.

How do you draw any conclusion in that regard?

The poll doesn't ask who do you WANT to win? but who WILL win? The fact that someone thinks the Pats (or Giants) WILL or WILL NOT win the game doesn't mean that they "hate" the team they don't think will win.

just because they pick the Pats in a poll doesn't mean they like them. Sometimes the brain outweighs jealousy
