What impresses me most about what the Pats have done with the tight ends is getting them to understand coverages and make the proper adjustments on the fly.
You can always find tight ends with similar skill sets (a lesser degree with Gronk) but getting the mental part and timing down is what keeps many teams from using tight ends in a similar way.

The man obviously loves the versatility the position provides but i seriously doubt that he thought that he can build an entire offense around it.
To me this is more about the individual skill sets of the players. The HOF QB,the freak of nature in gronk and the extraordinary skills of AH to lineup anywhere on the field and be a weapon.
It's the perfect storm....unless we lose of course.

Of course Gronk and Hernandez are two very talented specimins. Hernandez has WR speed for short stretches and Gronkowski's taller than most WRs and simply drags four defenders with him into the end zone.

Imagine Gronk and AH lined up heavy left in a Power-T or a split with Vereen and Ridley behind some over-sized QB like Mallett .... Old-school re-introduces itself, yet again, to the NFL.

You clearly don't get it. At all. The article I posted was from 2 years ago. BEFORE the Pats had Gronk and Hernandez.
The FACT is that Belichick developed the CONCEPT of the 2 TE set being a BASE offense back when he was coaching for the Lions. And they USED IT with 2 very good TEs. They weren't Gronk and Hernandez, but they were two of the better TEs in that era.
The article backs up the idea that Belichick has WANTED to have a 2 TE base with two good to excellent TEs for a LONG TIME. He attempted to do it with Graham and Watson, but it didn't work out. But it doesn't change the fact that he's been trying to do it for awhile.

OMG.. You really are that obtuse. You didn't actually read either article, did you? What you "seriously doubt" doesn't make a damn bit of difference to what is reality. The REALITY is that, back in 1976, Belichick, Shipp and Hudspeth DID develop an offense to feature their 2 TEs.
It's well known that Belichick had his OWN Offensive play-book and that it has been the BIBLE that Weis, McDaniels, and O'Brien have used for the Pats offense. Yes, they've made their own tweaks. The team took stuff out based on what their personnel allowed them to do. But it was still BELICHICK'S.
So this idea that it just came about due to Gronkowski and Hernandez has no merit.
