The end of an era?

When they had Super Bowl teams you could see it and feel it. The team lacks leaders. Back then you knew they would win. Teddy, Willie McGinest, Vrabel, Ty Law and Rodney Harrison set the tone. The current Patriots dont have ONE guy who does that.

Let's all step back from the ledge. It's November. They're 5-3. They could still realistically go 11-5 or 12-4 and do well in the playoffs.

Who thought they were Super Bowl champs midseason in 2001?

I love this board after a loss...
So you must think everything is just peachy. In other words........

.......................................What Me Worry

2 grand failures of Belichick recently:

1. Not improving the run game year after year, or not trying out the guys he drafted early!

2. Baffling, idiotic management moves on defense (especially at safety).

Oh...and a third one is keeping that piece of crap as our special teams coach.

I knew I shouldn't have come out here tonight.

See y'all tomorrow.

Ya dude, stay the **** away, far away. Don't come back till next Sunday.

It's going to be a horror show here, Hell it already is. It's gong to be one dark depressing place here. Stay away.

When I think of the Golden Age of Belichick, I think of the guy who made situational football into an art, who made time-management and tendencies into a science, who had a training program that not only brought out the best in Brady, but the best in Matt Cassel, Deion Branch, and so many other players who when traded lost their luster. Belichick turned football from a rock 'em sock 'em game into a fast paced chess game. He created game plans that were original and daring, and time and again he caught opponents and pundits off guard. He did things that had rarely been done before.

The reality is that Bill Belichick was so good that for many teams their Superbowl was when they played the Patriots. For years, to beat the Patriots was considered a signature accomplishment. But now, Belichick's best ideas are copied by virtually every good coach. So many opponents have taken our players and coaches and incorporated the ideas of Bill Belichick into their own game plans, training program, and even draft strategy. So many opponents have spent more time studying the Patriots so that they know them better than they probably know any other team.

The Pats are still a good team, but Bill Belichik no longer brings any surprises to the table. His students -- the coaches on other teams -- are becoming better than the teacher. His players no longer show the same blind faith in him they once showed. Belichick won't be easy to replace because by any measure he's still a great coach and the Pat's still have a great W-L record, but I think the Golden Age of Bill Belichick is over.
And remember back in the good old days a team that played the pats wasn't the same for weeks afterward.

NE's demise and Green Bay's rise are directly attributed to drafting.

The talent of NE is not up there with the like of Green Bay or Pitts.

Green Bay has much better talent across the board. They draft a very good receiver almost every year, Jennings, Finley, Nelson, Jones, and Cobb. (also what Pittsburgh did at WR). Their defense back field is stacked; D line is good; pash rush is reliable. Running back is better than us.

NE's demise and Green Bay's rise are directly attributed to drafting. Especially' at WR and pass rushers. It's a passing league now.

Pats need Belichik to either coach or be GM, not both. The drafting has been sub par since Pioli left. All this maneuvering up and down the draft board hasn't got them zip, still no downfield threat or pass rusher because nobody fits the Patriots scheme. Bull****.

Thats not a bad idea, the ST's have stunk all year..... maybe shake things up

If Belichick doesn't let his arrogance get the best of him YES they are done. Cuts Sanders and Bodden, trades Merriweather and benches his second round pick Cunningham. Signs Chad Johnsons whos clueless. Hires a guy who has NO football backround (Patricia) over Pepper Johnson as the D. Cordinator. I mean seriously, what should we really be expecting? The team has been on a downward spiral since Romeo and Charlie left. Don't count last years 14 win team who beat up on suspect teams and got tossed out at home in the playoffs.

It was over in 2004.

They also refused to pay Asante Samuel ,spent time and picks to replace him, refused to keep Ellis Hobbs, traded picks to Oakland for some bum, traded Richard Seymour for a V-A-L-U-E,got fleeced twice by Green Bay.

And it sucks that our kick returns never fail to be contained at the 20...almost always. Maybe we should just let McCourty return regularly?

Bottom line this is not a superbowl contending team as of today..They have not won a playoff game since the superbowl loss 3 years ago..They need to revamp the defense lets just hope they can do it whils Brady is still in his prime...Sergio Brown are you kidding me ????

Can't believe all the interceptions Belichick's been throwing lately. Madness.

How many 6 seeds do we see limp into the playoffs with veteran players on their last leg and coaches on their last contract and then just blow everyone away? This loss means nothing

The lack of a 2nd WR is this weeks glaring roster hole.

I know that this may be sacrelidge, but I am about ready to see this era end. This is essentially the exact same team since '06. Even Brady is starting to look like Jim Everett if things break down too soon in a game. Not that he is soft, but he becomes over reliant on Welker and Gronk, forcing it, just as he did to Wes and Moss. He toughed it out tonite. It won't be long before he asks himself why he needs all this. There is not enough time left for him to get the fourth ring. This era is already over, it just looks too much like the glory days for us to see it.

Face it, the last time the Pats won it all, Roman Phifer, David Patten and Joe Andruzzi were on the team. You cannot pack a roster with "talent" of this caliber and expect to compete among the elite. I thought Floyd Reese was helping, maybe he is, but the junior coaching staff is killing them. I don't know. Whatever the case, something is seriously amiss.

If you like having a winning team, then you should want them to ride this out. If you ever want to see another Championship, then they need to turn the page on this Management structure. It is broken.

Thats a great point, however all of those teams had a defense their offenses sucked..

Example Steelers were a wildcard team and went on a tear oh and remember the Giants in 2008 ??? What do those teams have in common ?

It's hard to admit but it is the end of that era,but if BB gets his head out of his ass about defensive players and will pay them then maybe they can turn it around,,

What people are forgetting is that the giants didn't have there STARTING WR, STARTING RB and STARTING C. And they still beat us.

You can't be the best forever. Sooner or later you will fall
