What position do you coach on the team that gives credence to your 1787 posts that were all assuredly authorative?
We're all on the outside looking in, but going by what I see I don't think the hype meets reality with Seymour and the face stomping incident really sickened me because for better or worse I buy into all that horse**** about character.
I'm not saying that he's a bad player but if we could get the same production sans the occasional assault and battery or dip**** PF - Roughing the Passer for cheaper I'd be all for it.
The face-stomping incident is not the norm for Seymour. You act like this guy is a serial troublemaker. From what I've heard most close to the team think he is a pretty stand up guy. Most people think Brady has pretty great character and his best friend on the team is Seymour, so I don't think he can be that terrible.
And lets not get carried away here. The penalty you are referring to was bad but it's not in the league of the Albert Haynesworth stomp. Even the "nicest" players have had the occasional on the field problem. I remember our golden boy Tom Brady getting flagged for a penalty after he shoved an opposing player to the ground well after the play was over. Football is a very emotional game and these things happen. If there are issues all the time obviously there is a problem, but that doesn't happen for Seymour. I'm not excusing the penalty but it happened because he was cut blocked, which isn't illegal but any defensive lineman will tell you it is their absolutely least favorite thing to have happen because each time it could end your season on career. I think you're taking the situation a little more seriously than it merits.
And I certainly don't think you can blame Seymour for most of the roughing the passer calls against him because everyone knows how BS that penalty is most of the time. The one called against him last week was a joke. Even the talking heads on ESPN thought so.
Belichick has let so many "great" players walk, such as Milloy, Branch, McGuinest, Law, Woody, and Washington, yet he not only gave in to the holdout of Seymour but he gave him an extension that made him one of the highest paid defensive players in the game more than a year before his contract was up. The only other player who has been treated similarly in the Belichick era is Brady, and we all know how important he is to the team. This organization doesn't throw money around to just anyone, and it is not afraid to let really good players go. Clearly Belichick felt that Seymour was a vital part of the defense who had to be signed. Call me crazy, but I trust Belichick.
I love Ty Warren, and he had a great year, but part of his success is from playing on a line with Seymour. Seymour gets so much attention from the other team that it clears it up for the other guys. Teams rarely run to Seymour's side. He is a leader on the defense who can alter an offenses game plan. Belichick views him as the Brady of the defense.
Regardless, Seymour isn't going anywhere. Belichick doesn't sign people to huge contracts only to trade them. If it gets as far them getting a big contract, he wants them for good.
