Who takes Welker ? Revis, maybe this Wilson guy that they are so high on ?
Then who takes Gronk ? Hernandez ? (assuming he comes back)

I think Revis probably gets Welker after what he's been doing to the recent teams. No way they want him burning them up for another 200+ yard game.

Cromartie will again, be the weak link and hopefully gets called for many holding calls but I can see him maybe on Gronk or Hernandez.

Than we have Branch and Ocho as well when they rotate. I guess then Cro or Revis then swaps to Ocho.

Thoughts?

I hope the Pats put Wes Welker in the Slot.

The key matchup is Rex Ryan vs Bill O'Brien. Who knows what defense the Jets are going to try to use to stop the Pats this time around but BOB needs to be flexible in his game plan so he can adjust. If Rex trots out 5+ DBs they should just keep running the ball down their throats and use play action to complement the runs. If Rex adjusts to base spread them out and make them cover the entire field and use the draw play to your advantage.

On the other side of the ball the key matchup is our defensive line vs their depleted oline. Our line needs to step up and dominate the game. Keep the Jets out of 3rd and short and put the pressure on Sanchez.

I know this is weird, but can someone start a thread looking for a certain person for me? There's a poster by the name of Mark Morse...who sent me a PM last week in regards to the game this weekend. I'm coming to the states from Canada for the game, and he kindly offered for my husband and I to join his tailgating. Problem is...I can't respond to him PM as I don't have those priveleges yet. I figured if someone could start a thread, he might answer, and I can get in touch with him that way. If anyone can help...thanks SO much!!! Go Pats!!

The key is the oline. If they keep Brady up we will win hands down. More than anything though I hope we are balanced to have long sustaining drive like vs The Raiders(whom Belichick said was Bradys best game so far) As for the original question, if Jets want to win they have to keep the game close have to shut down Welker. They really wet over this Eric Smith covering our TE's and think Branch can be shutdown by Cro. But having Hernandez back and if he's at a decent level to play we win this game hands down no one has been able to shut down our two te set

the main key to the game is the OL imo....if they can keep brady safe, we will be fine.

welker will still get catches although i think revis will limit him...im not expecting a 100+ game..and cromartie should be able to shut down branch..

this is a game that is the reason ochocinco was brought in....in 3 wr sets...who do you put your 2nd best corner on? last year it was obvious branch because tate wasnt a threat.....but last week(despite limited snaps) showed ocho can get open(on 3 passes and the welker td) and is getting comfortable with the offense...which should leave either one of the other open.

also, if hernandez is back, theres another option to torch the jets and should help gronk get more open(raiders seemed to have him shut down for the most part)

with the emergence of our run game, i think we score 31pts whether the pass is working or not. the jets run d has been bad and ridley/ben-jarvus/woody should get some nice yardage

also, if haynesworth is back it should be big because we are going to need him to help stop the run as well as get through the jets ol to sanchez.

Pats offense is almost the same minus ocho that played in the playoffs as is the jets defense. So it wont be as simple as eric smith with the TE. The jets D is in BOB's head. he and brady need to adjust and adapt to whatever is thrown at them.

The Jets have been surprisingly weak against the run. I think Lawfirm and Ridley can pound out some yards on the ground.

On defense, seems like Mangold is going to try to play this game. If he does, line up Vince right across from him and pound on him. See if his ankle can hold up while trying to get leverage on the 350 pound beast!

Crumpler catches that ball in the end zone that would be a different tune, and a different game ..

I think Revis will have to cover Welker. Revis has traditionally covered the other teams best WR and Welker has been unstoppable this year. I don't see anyone but Revis covering him.

They'll probably put Cromartie on Gronk and treat him like a WR.

Wilson will probably be on Branch.

The wildcard is Hernandez. If we get him back, I don't see anyone covering him unless it's a double team. And if one of the top 3 corners cover Hernandez, then some else is going to be matched up against their safeties, which will favor us.

I hope Woody is okay because he'll also be a matchup problem.

The Jet's LBs are slow and won't be able to keep up with our RBs and TEs in coverage. If we give Brady time, we're gonna go up and down the field.

If they put Cromartie on Gronk then lots of quick passes to him will be the order of the day because Cromartie can't tackle WR's never mind someone like Gronk.

Revis on Welker
Then everyone else in zones like they were in the playoff game.

Sent you a PM.

this is the perfect game for ocho to make an impact...if the defense is keyed in on welker/gronk...and to an extent branch..more opportunities will come his way..he ran some crisp routes in the raiders game and did produce in limited snaps grabbing 2 first downs, an 8yard catch that was rescinded due to welkers penalty...and the route that lead to welkers touchdown...so hopefully he gets more in this game.

if hernandez is healthy and can play 75% of how he did in the first 2 games, he creates a big matchup problem for the jets...too big for corners, too fast for lb/safeties...without him, seems like teams double gronk on the seam routes

i like the run game this week with law firm, ridley, vereen, etc.

... especially if rex decides to utilize a defensive game-plan similar to the one the jets employed in january's divisional playoff game.

The Jets used a lot subpackages in zone coverage vs. the Pats in the playoffs last year. I don't think that strategy will work this year with the emergence of Stevan Ridley and the Jets' defense (especially the run defense) not looking as good as previous years under Ryan. You only rush 4 and have 5-6 DBs and BJGE and Ridley will have huge games.

I would think they would put Revis on Welker. The problem is that the Pats most certainly will have Welker in motion a lot and Revis has not been totally otherworldly this year and his biggest weakness (if you can call it that) is defending smaller, shiftier WRs.

I would think Cromartie will be on Gronk or Hernandez if he plays. Matching him up against Branch last year was a disaster for the Jets. I doubt they would repeat that after Branch smoked him in November. Cromartie sucks against small, quick WRs and is better against taller straight line guys.

I'm guessing Wilson would be on Branch. I don't know if this is a good match up for the Jets since Wilson seems to struggle outside and more consistent in the slot. Although Branch has been nearly invisible the last two weeks.

I think the biggest difference between this time and last time is Stevan Ridley. If he continues to run like he has, it means the Jets don't have to just concern themselves about the pass. Another big difference is that Gronk has become a deep threat which means they will likely have to play a safety deep which they didn't in the playoffs.

I agree with your analysis. However, my feeling is that we don't see Hernandez till after the bye week. I hope I'm wrong.

Dowling better freakin play this week, or I will still call him Ras IR.

It's Glass IR Dowling
