[Merged] Pats Work Out Then Sign Brian Waters G

There evaluation method is poor, therefore their data is poor.
They watch a TV feed.

So can I safely discount any more evaluations I read on here or do some posters secretly get the game films?

Great point about the mentoring aspect and locker room leadership. This guy was awarded Walter Payton Player of the Year in 2009 for contributions on and off the field.

Guys who have their lives flash in front of them and make it back don't need mentoring.

Cannon's talent did not wash away with chemotherapy.......he had what it took to be a 3rd team all American at LT.......he will make a fine OG and has the experience to contribute right away......

Waters is a one year thing.......gurode would have been good to also back up at OC, but prob wanted more than one year

That would be my choice, but I could see using PS player Austin as our 9th OL for 6 weeks and then Cannon.

If Wendell goes to IR we need to sign another OL

Sign the beast.........

What? Wait.... we actually did?

Great signing. He is certainly boosters perilously thin G position. To tell you the truth though, I expect him to be starting ahead of Connelly within a few games, of not right away. Even a slightly age-slowed Waters is better then most options we have.

All rookies need mentoring, in the NFL. Has nothing to do a rookies natural abilities or what they did in college. With more experience players that are leaders, will certainly help Cannon adjust to the pro-level..

My guess on Gurode is that it was more of a knee thing than a contract thing.

But Waters for a year is perfect until Cannon is ready and any young Tackle making the move to guard would need some mentoring.

Plenty of guys have their lives flash and are still screw-ups. I would say that Cannon doesn't fit that bill because he wasn't a screw-up in the 1st place but surviving cancer doesn't imbue you with invaluable football knowledge.

I'm pretty sure the OP was talking about football mentoring not Boys and Girls Clubs of America mentoring.

Yes but he was still much better than Connolly.

Well, I'm not a Connolly fan, so I'll leave that be other than to say that having Waters sign should give the team a viable alternative to Mr. Connolly, for this year. Waters' play was slipping in K.C., as Chiefs posters were able to demonstrate with film breakdowns, and he had a young player behind him that the Chiefs are high on (Asamoah). He spent a lot of his career playing next to guys like Willie Roaf, so he knows how to play with talented players near him, and that could help to up his game.

He played in C Weis offense should help him get up to speed in the Pats O.

What injury did Rich Ob suffer?

Oh, but I thought everyone was just overreacting when we said we should add some vets to the OL???

Good signing. Should be serviceable for a year.

Re: Schefter: Pats sign Brian Waters

You must work for these guys: FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Innovative Statistics, Intelligent Analysis

Who I believe rank BJGE as the #2 or #3 RB in the NFL depending on which of their measurements you choose. Go Lawfirm !

No they don't. Learn what a stat's actually saying before you claim to know what it means. Or just keep getting paid by PFF, which is the only possible reason why someone could ballwash a site as hard as you do.

If they claim to be tabulating those results and running an objective and insightful analysis on them, then yes, go ahead and discount that.

Game films (all-22) are overrated except to the people who truly know the game. To the average Joe, game films are no more insightful than what they see on TV.

You shouldn't discount the input of posters on here- there are some pretty smart ones who know the game well, and their insights most certainly rival what the sports media in general can offer you.

What injury did Rich Ob suffer?

I think it was in the Giant's game..... Late in the 4th. It was the play that resulted in the G-men's 14th sack of Mallett. A big d-lineman stepped on his foot as Ohberger was waiving him on by.

It wasn't pretty.

Re: Schefter: Pats sign Brian Waters

Thank you for this link. Data like this (taken in context as they suggest) is a luxury!

Not sure how much one can glean from those numbers, but I was slightly surprised to read this:

"At the other end, you’ll get an idea why we didn’t see Justin Hartwig on the field last year – notorious for allowing pressure up the gut. He was far and away the worst rated center, with the surprise names to note being Dan Koppen with the fifth worst rating and Nick Hardwick in the bottom ten."
