No props for Daryl Richard?

2 sacks and just hustling all over the place.

Re: No props for Daryl Richard?

Ah, you mean someone's actually commenting on the game and not some minutiae nobody cares about? The game thread has been hijacked.

Anyway, I thought he looked great. Had to double check who it was the first couple of times he was in on plays. He reminds me a little of Warren in his prime. Tough decisions ahead for BB when it comes to the DL.

Re: No props for Daryl Richard?

Richard and Love, plus whomever they were platooning with did a nice job of keeping Fletcher clean. I watched a live stream with hiccups so I won't have a lot of detail until I get the NFLN replay recorded this afternoon, but I read a comment from AWTE on another board crediting some good DE play turning the run back inside too.

I also liked the O-line play, Maneri struggled a little in pass protection at LT, but seemed to do better at RT and looked pretty good on some of the run plays. I thought Orhnberger played well at Center, certainly the endzone replay they showed of him on Ridley's 4th down run to set up first and goal showed him getting a piece of two defenders and moving very well.

I wouldn't be surprised if NE received offers for Hoyer today, and some teams really have to be kicking themselves over not drafting Mallett.

I wonder where I've been too, but it was fun. :p

I got to rewatch the game on DVR and did a lot of reverse/pause action.

Cunningham had a nice sack of course, but I think what makes him unnoticeable sometime is that we have a bunch of guys who have great motors on the team now. He gets lost in the background arond some very high energy guys.

Aside from Richard whom have already been mentioned as well as Love whom was quite dominant....

I gotta say Landon Cohen was a beast.

For a big man, he has scary quickness. I will be eager to watch him the rest of the preseason. If you DVR'd the game...you cannot miss him.

Mark Anderson was also a hugely disruptive force off the edge.

IT WAS SO MUCH FUN WATCHING DUDES BLASTING UPFIELD!

I will be able to watch the game tomorrow. Yes I will dvr the game. Nice to hear the defense is playing well. 4-3 or 3-4???

I watched a live stream with hiccups so it's nice to read you saw Cohen looking beastly, I got glimpses but was waiting to DVR NFLN's replay today.

yes.....what both box???

Once I get the game on my computer and edit the videos, I'll post it in one of the Jags Pats thread. Video will probably be split in 4 videos-2 halves; O and D.

Belichick's defense is a multiple front defense. The past couple seasons NE has played more 40 fronts then 30, but then NE is usually facing teams playing from behind so it's about what you'd expect. For the moment it looks like BB is planning to keep more DL and fewer LBs, if so it might be because he's looking to play from ahead as much as he has the past couple seasons and figures to have some extra pass rush capability along the D-line - certainly Ty Warren's release would fit that speculation.

I don't know about beastly guys. We got gouged pretty consistently on the run. I'm happy about the pressures but would have liked the Run D being a bit more stout... in saying that... Enter Vince Wilfork and Albert Haynesworth and problem solved.

Jax got some strong runs early, but once the defense settled down and made some adjustments you didn't see the runs up the middle getting anywhere.

It's the combination of quality and depth of the DLine that is scaring me. We need to start cutting guys before Pepper coaches up the future opposition too well. :D There were a number of guys who everyone has on the bubble with this team who looked dominant last night. I'm looking forward to seeing whether TB's offense tempers our expectations at all, or whether it just gets scarier when the 1s get out there.

Agreed. Part of that might have been Fletcher adjusting to making the defensive calls.

"It took a few plays. The first drive was a little shaky. Getting used to kind of having the control out there for the first game was a little tough at first. But once I got the hang of it, I thought our whole defense played pretty well. Once the ball started rolling and whatnot, once we got used to our surroundings."

I was happy with the DL play overall. It's only a pre-season game, but it was a positive start. Even when one person got credit, you could see multiple DL crashing. On one of Richard's sacks, Anderson was the one generating pressure forcing the QB to step up in the pocket and right into Richard. Which is not to suggest Richard didn't play well, because he had a heck of a game. But the DL as a group was very impressive.

Yeah, this team is going to have ALOT of tough decisions. I was counting Richard as cut, with the 143 defensive linemen that they have. He's gumming up the works. :)

He does have a very strong arm. He did show nice pocket awareness as well. Touch and accuracy is what he needs to work on.

I also thought Cohen quietly had a good game. Glad to see you mention him.
