Mallett already comparing himself to Brady

Thats what I am saying...Brady and Manning are on a level above anyone on the past 15 years or so

There are alot of PROMISING QBs like Rodgers and Brees and maybe Ryan but they have a LONG ways to even sniff the careers of #12 and #18

Agree, of course, re Brady and P. Manning. Favre was already in the league seven years when Manning joined the Colts in 1998.

IMO, Brees doesn't fall in the "promising" category, but has been in the league almost as long as Tommy (one year less) and has thrown and completed more passes with an 11 season pass rating of 91.7. Until the last couple of years he never had a supporting cast on the field or on the sidelines to compete with what Brady had, so his overall record as a starter is 79--58. He's only been to two championship games (AFCCG and Super Bowl) whereas TB has been to nine. He doesn't have Manning or Marino stats, so, if he's gonna make his case for Canton, he's going to have to play a couple of more Sunday evenings in February. Agree on Rodgers and the "maybe" on Ryan.

I think the Saints had a GREAT draft to fill needs they had to have to once again get to the next level.

If Ingram is anything close to ROTY on an already powerful offense and a decent D,then the Saints could very well be celebrating in the big easy in February, that would dramatically increase Brees odds of HOF worthiness.

The Saints championship run was behind their defense in 09. Their offense has been championship quality for years now. Their D looked very suspect last year.

Long ways? Rodgers and Brees each already has as many rings as Manning, and they've put up MVP numbers consistently for the past few years. So as far as the Manning comparison, they already got toughest part out of the way (the ring). The rest is just keeping up their steady production, which shouldn't be too hard considering their talent and their situations.

Rivers is another one who'll enter this conversation the moment he wins a ring. If he wins one.

If anyone bothers to read the refernces, it was HIS FATHER that said the Dolphins will pay. In the second reference all Ryan said its that he is a pocket passer like Tom Brady and neither is a dangerous runner. So they have to pass the ball. That is an insult???

I fear that there are a lot of guys here that just aching to want to take it out on poor Ryan.

For the record, he never admitted smoking pot. When arrested for alcohol intoxication, after a college party, he admitted there were MJ smokers there...

It was the father speaking, but he was quoting Ryan:

“They took another guy,” Jim Mallett said. “Ryan said, ‘Payback.’ He remembers it all.”

I agree Ryan Mallett is spot on and I admire his confidence.

As we all can remember with TFB he looked Robert Kraft straight in the eyes like a laser and told him straight up "high I'm Tom Brady and I am the best decision this organization will ever make"

I want Ryan Mallett to be, Bradys successor and I do not want to see him traded.

Moreover Brian Hoyer should be the odd man out. I promise you all and keep me on record girls and boys. Brian Hoyer will net us a round two selection.

Why should desperate team in need of a QB take a chance on an unproven college star:confused:

Brian Hoyer has been New England Patriots Pro system and he is learning from the greatest quarterback of the modern era.

First,Brees did not have a great 2010 campaign, good but not great.

Only a dumb ass measures HOF QBs with the number of SB Rings

Is Dan Marino a failure because he was not able to get a ring?
Was Jim Kelly a failure because he did not win a ring?
Was Fran Tarkenton a failure because he did not win a ring?

SB Rings are won as a TEAM....

Brady helped the Pats win 3 Super Bowls but he had the defense needed to hold off the Eagles,Panthers and Rams at crucial times.....none of the QBs mentioned above were able to have such luxury but that keeps them far from saying that SB Rings make a QB.....Not true

Ryan Mallett plans “payback” after Dolphins pass on him | ProFootballTalk

Ryan Mallett says he's just like Tom Brady - NFL- nbcsports.msnbc.com

I like the kids enthusiasm but seriously, you can't jump out and compare yourself in any which way to one of the greatest QBs of all time when you haven't thrown a pass in a regular season game yet, whether that is a complimentary statement or not.

As the other link shows,he is now doing the 'disrespect' card of Miami passing on him and wants revenge....sound familiar like Brady and the long wait in 2000

I truly think the aura of playing on the same team as Brady has gotten in this kids brain, he needs to realize that unless another Pollard type hit lands on Brady,he may have a LONG wait until he can show anything.

Do you like the enthusiasm or is it a little premature and out of bounds?
I find it interesting that he says this: Me and Tom are kind of the same

And the headline says Mallett says he's JUST LIKE Brady.

right now Ryan Mallett is more than half right in his assessmentof the situation.

Tom Brady was an understudy of Drew Bledsoe much like Ryan Mallett is an understudy to Tom Brady. What I admire about right now is his ability to throw the ball and his presence in the pocket is commendable.

I see him much more mobile than our superstar Tom Brady, but he will not replace him anytime soon. I see him as a very successful backup and understudy of Tom Brady. The sky is the limit on Ryan Mallett. I hope he appreciates the great potential of this organization and the position he is in. I hope he understands the Aaron Rodgers instance and how successful he became from being on the shelf and learning to be a better QB from a very experienced mentor in Brett Favre.

QB's will be always measured by rings. What's the first argument you hear when Marino's name comes up? You always hear about him not winning a ring.

It depends on your definition of failure, but to use rings as a criterion in judge the all time great does not mean those who are not included among the handful of best ever are failures.
And none of those 3 belong in the handful of greatest ever.

The QB is the most important part of the team. Certainly they don't win games alone, but they are the most crucial component of winning.
Marino is a great example of this. He is lauded as a great QB because he 'carried his team' but in almost every season he played poorly in the game they were eliminated in. I saw an article once that cumulated Marino's stats in his final game of each season (ie playoff elimination) and his stats were not only not good, they were horrendous.
Certainly a QB doesn't win titles by themselves, but among the teams that are good enough to win them the play of the QB especially in the clutch makes the difference. There definitely is something different in the quality of play in crunchtime between multiple SB winner and never winners.

I don't really care about all of that, its pointless, IMO, he will be what he will be.
But I just found it interesting that the writer felt he needed to add a degree to the actual comment in the headline to sensationalize it.

If I say I am 'kind of the same' as someone admirable, and you go around telling mutual acquaintances that I said I am 'just like' them, there is clearly an agenda at work. In this case the agenda would appear to be to get more readers.

Yep,can you name another HOF first ballot guaranteed QB right now that has played like Brady and Manning since 1996??

Off the top of my head I have the following:

Troy Aikman, Joe Montana (by a few years), Steve Young, Warren Moon, Jim Kelly, Dan Marino, John Elway, Drew Brees (still active), and Brette Favre (still active :singing:). honorable mentions: Rivers, Warner, the Hamburger man, etc.

So about nine that were playing on or after 1996 . . . TB and PM make it 11 QBs in 15 years . . . . or going by when drafted about 11 in 30 years . . . so it is not as sparse as you may think . . . memories of great players in the past can fade quickly . . . ;)

so it really isn't 1 or 2 every 15 or 20 years . . .

. . .
Guys like Brady and Manning come around once every 15 or 20 years...If Mallett is one of those guys it will probably not show until he is 27 years old or is traded to another team in 3 years.

please see my post above . . . post #34

my fellow patriot brother You are looking at this instance very myopically.

Both QB's were drafted in rounds they did not deserve to be drafted in. He is like Tom Brady in the sense that both of these players have great mentors.

I see the comparisons of draft and mentors whycan't you:confused:

FYI you should care

I've got no problem with what Mallett actually said. Everyone here talks about how badass it was for Brady to talk the way he did (even the nugget about supplanting Drew as the starter), and now they want to come down on Mallett, whose comments were not nearly as provocative? Weird.

No one hates Mallett (well, maybe not most of us)

But he really should shows us something in TC first before getting on the revenge train.

There will be no revenge for the Dolphins if Mallett is another Bishop or Robinson

Im just jerking you

wait, wut?

Saying something to another player in private is one thing, running your mouth to the media is another.

Exactly

Now we'll know he's gone too far comparing himself to Brady when he dons a Beiber wig and tries to fool Gissell
