Rooting for Marcus Cannon

Bill Belichick is still undecided where Cannon will play and the other prospects.

He did say this though.

"I’m not sure exactly what’s best for anybody. I assume we’ll play (Ryan) Mallett at quarterback, but the rest of them, we’ll see how it goes."

I love BB's careless side:)

Seriously? That's the best you could do to bash BB?
You find a thread on rooting for Marcus Cannon and then take something BB said about the draft picks in general, and use his statement completely out of context. BTW, "YOU" did not offer any statement in regards to Mr. Cannon, which coincidentally is what inspired the thread.

What? Can Mallett not rush the passer? What a waste of a pick

With BB apparently planning to be handicapped in rookie development, taking a kid whom you know will just be starting to get his feet under him mid-Summer suggests a longer termed perspective to Cannon's readiness. My guess is Cannon is IR'd when the season starts, putting him in the hands of the Trainers and the S&C staff while allowing him in the meeting rooms for chalk talk and film study. This gives him nearly a full year to get his body healed up and get himself conditioned into his new playing weight and the diet & nutrition practices he'll need to maintain himself. The most optimistic time line puts him on PUP and eligible to begin practicing mid-season, perhaps in a "normal" season, but I don't see the advantage to trying to do that in the current environment.

This is the only part where I disagree with you: if he has any realistic chance of playing this season, they'll start him on pre-season PUP, then regular season PUP. IR will only be a last resort.

Perhaps, I've read reporting this afternoon which claims his chemo is over June 29 and he expects to be ready for Training Camp - may God bless him. I still think the S&C coaches will need a year to reshape him the way they did Ron Brace, but if Scar and BB think he's ready to hold down a slot on the O-line this Fall I'm not standing in their way. :)

The more I read about Cannon, the more I feel that he's going to be my binky pick.

From WEEI:

He allowed no sacks in his last two seasons while protecting the blind side of quarterback Andy Dalton, and as a senior, he recorded 21-touchdown-resulting blocks, the most by a TCU lineman since the school started recording the stat in 1984. In addition, he collected 115 knockdown blocks, the most by any blocker in the conference for the season.

For Cannon, his finest moment — as well as the pinnacle for his team — came in the Rose Bowl. That’s where the Odessa, Texas, native recorded 10 knockdowns of Wisconsin defensive end J.J. Watt in a 21-19 win over the Badgers.

HE is a steal:)

now for herzlich PATS we need him.

he will be most-impressive in 3 years (Herzlich)

CANNON will be an immediate plug for this team

Kazcur buh BYE Light not sure

From WEEI:

I love the quote about the Rose Bowl. I remember watching the game and hearing what a force Watt was from the television announcers. Watt really didn't do much. My guess is the Pats spent some time with that game film.

I hope Cannon beats this disease and turns into a star.

My best wishes to Marcus Cannon. I went through Chemo too; and it is NOT pleasant at all, as you essentially Poison yourself near to death.

But assuming he recovers, Mr. Cannon will still have an uphill battle to make the Patriot's Offensive line squad. He is, to put it mildly, wholly untypical of the portrait of a Pats Offensive lineman, and the kind of plays they are then called on to execute. He is "Too Big", and perhaps immobile to do the pulling, second level blocking, and general limberness called on, for the Patriot's offensive schemes.

The constant image I have is of the likes of former All-American, and high draft choice, Deuce Latui who is constantly on the verge of being cut, for being fat, slow, a pass rush turnstile, and out of shape.

I note his height, 6'5+", 40 speed 5.36, and the fact that he played Left Tackle in college. Those are all counter-intuitive to the image of the fat, immobile, hulking, Guard that the heaviest lineman, 358#s, in the Draft would indicate.

If he is that rare athlete who can handle the weight, and still remain somewhat mobile, then I expect the Patriot's will have found a mammoth and dominant power Guard, to add to their rapidly developing "New Generation" Team.

This pick (as well as the Ryan Mallett pick) has a high risk factor but a ridiculously huge upside. Whether he (or Mallett) pans out is a different matter, but it gives the Patriots (borderline) 1st round talent down the road.

Although projected as a guard, having the ability and experience of playing LT at a high level means he possibly provides good insurance at the bookend position as well.

The selection also gives Marcus Cannon something forward to look to in his battle against cancer and I imagine he will be buoyed by the prospect of being coached up by a legend like Dante.

It should be fine. He's doing Chemo (ala: JonLester) and probably be "injured-reserve" this year. Give's him time to heal, and study the playbook.

Next year, the OL will be pretty strong (Kaczur cut):

NateSolder-Cannon-Koppen-Mankins-Vollmer

(assuming Patriots and Mankins kiss and make up).

Also note that 2012, they will need a center to eventually replace
Koppen...

I like the C out of Wisconsin, he will be a junior next year and he's a mauler so an interior of him, Mankins & Cannon would be brilliant, Brady and the RB's would love it :D

Once more, I guarantee you and everyone else that he will be on the roster, and neither on IR or PUP.

I agree...if Cannon is on Pup,it would be only for the reason that he is not needed. This is a guard we're talking about, not a QB or WR.

My immediate Binky............ LOVE THE PICK and praying him to have the courage to face the coming battle.

Heal up big boy........... I know I speak for all pats fans to say we can't wait to see you lumbering down the field on a kick return holding the rock "breadbasket" style. ;)

Plus he has already started the treatment- so he is ahead of the curve. He has a high wonderlic score so he should acquire without a problem. He's probably gotten a call from Solder, and hopefully they got a basic playbook before the lockout was resumed.
