Colin Cowherd Just Ripped Belichick

Who is Colin Cowherd? And are you sure you aren't a Jets fan? This is like the 10th post you've made today ripping the Patriots.

Actually Cowherd is an open Pats fan. I'm sure his reaction was knee jerk and very similar to ones seen all over Patriots nation.

Colin Cowturd is paid to bash Belichick.

What's your excuse?

Relax guys, its only been round 1 and OT was a need with the uncertainty with Light.

Plus shouldnt Cunningham make that next step from year 1 to year 2. You figure he will become more involved in the defense, i think we concentrate on the other OLB, a DE and secondary. Offense we need to look at OG then WR and RB...6 positions with 5 picks today, could even trade down in the 2nd at 33 and pick up an extra 3. Like last year with Gronk Spikes and Cunningham just get me some football players.

Exactly. This team was 11-2 last year. The young defensive players will be better. They will probably add two starters through the draft. Plus, they have two starters coming back from injury. AND, they have at least (to date) two first round picks next year. But hey, lets' bash BB because they didn't get "our" guy.

I just listened to him. He compared BB to Howard Hughes, basically saying that some "geniuses" turn into kooks. He threw 4th and 2 out there as a example.

He didn't like the trade out of the first round.

He brought up the name Robert Gallery. suggesting Nate Solder is no sure thing.

He mentioned our inability to get off the field on third down and said we need pass rushers.

He reiterated that he disagreed with the Seymour trade.

Overall it was nothing earth shattering. I will say though, we have three second round picks and if we can start finding some pass rushers in the lower rounds like the Steelers have, then BB will be a "genius" again.

Well, if they don't address it today, the liklihood of addressing it in rounds 4, 5, and 6 are slim to none. Even today, they have to be lucky.

At any point in the draft, the Patriots have to be lucky to successfully address any need (Hi Vernon Gholston and Hi James Harrison as two equal but opposite examples of draft position and pro success). The only thing a well-scouted and well-thought out 1st round pick versus a 3rd round pick provides is a higher probability of a successful upgrade. That is it!

Good points. Let's all take a breath and see what they do today. This is the meat of the draft for NE. There's no reason to think a third round guy can't contribute. Gronk, Cunningham and Spikes were all round two guys that contributed in '10. I agree the jury is out on Cunningham still, but the other two played well. Hernandez was a fourth rounder. I would be happy to have them not pick a developmental guy today (Price) and wait for that tomorrow.

Sounds like Mel Kiper criticisms.

You must be a wonderful human being. Really. :)

Why are you mad at Jack?

So you want a Vernon Gholston, Aaron Maybin, Larry English, Jerry Hughes, Everette Brown, Anthony Spencer,............

He's only pointing out reality. Your points are idiotic.

Bill addressed the pass rush, is it his fault none of you detractors were paying attention?

Thing is with Gallery, we didnt take Solder in the top 5 so its weird to compare him to Gallery. Second, Gallery has turned into a pretty good guard for Oakland and i think hes a FA. With Neal retired and the Mankins situation, we may need 2 guards this offseason

Trying to find the middle in this. I think the frustration is valid on both sides. The Patriots outside of a few bad years. Have had some solid drafts. Getting an All Pro last year was nice. Prob the best draft the pats have had in a while. We got production out of a lot of players. I agree we should bring in more solid players. We will continue to be a very good team.

But at the same time, I actually like how the Jets will be aggressive moving up in the first round for their guy. Which means way less players but usually in theory better top end talent. Jerod Mayo is arguably our best defensive player and he was a top 10 pick. Obviously, If you can get to pick of the cream of the crop you will usually do pretty well.

I think Both teams are right. I prefer what the patriots do the majority of the time. But, I hope at some point they are willing to cash in some picks to move up and get some uber stud hall of fame potential guy. I know we have found them later in the draft too but moving up in the top 10 work for me. Only so many guys can make this team. If we somehow get another first round pick today. I really hope next year we cash in and move up if their is guy we covet. Overpay a little, Its not like we wont still have a ton of picks.

Last year everyone was ready to kill himself after day one and was singing and dancing after day 2.

"everyone" = me.

Let's get some Gronks and Spikes tomorrow and we'll all feel great.

That's true, but how often do we get to enjoy a #17 pick? Normally, we pick in the low part of round 1.
This was the pick we traded Seymour for...so indirectly, we have traded an All-Pro DE in our scheme (who could have helped us advanced in the playoffs the past 2 years) for a developmental player who may be the next Hannah/Armstrong type O-lineman but we will have to wait and see.
Some are saying that this spells the end of Matt Light. Well, if 1st round picks should make us better immediately, than how is Solder is going to do that? The guy can't bench more reps than David Givens and while he has an incredible frame, is nothing more than a finesse tackle at this time.
I don't know as much as most of you, but I don't feel like a better team than 24hrs ago. Having said that, I will hold judgement and not go on suicide watch until AFTER this weekend.

So many people seem to just think that draft is the 1st round only. I don't understand it A lot of quality 1st round talent is still available at OLB/DE. Would it make people feel better if we had drafted one of those players in the first round when we can have that same player in the second (and receive a future 1st rounder)?

Jesus.

What the hell is the point of criticizing BB for not addressing the pass rush when there are still 6 rounds to go, and we have 3 2nd round picks?

How about we wait and see until those picks are in before clutching the ole' pearls. For that very fact alone, I have a difficult time believing Cowherd made ANY good points.

Jack, Let's make peace just for this one post. Do you not agree that the quality of the pass rushers who were more than attainable, were left on the table for what amounts to a project OT and a 2012 first rounder we will undoubtedly trade into 2013 yet again next year? Do you not feel the little guy from the Bronx is laughing in Oakland because we traded a six time Pro Bowl DE for a OT who might be a year or two away? The second rounder was o.k. but yet again we are setting up quantity, not quality. Were there not four or five pass rushers we could have gotten that have more talent than Solder and a better....."value"...(the most overused word in the Draft)?

Don't you agree that if he takes a first rounder today for #33 he will trade it away next year as well anyway?

If all of the strong "build through the Draft" supporters think that trading picks does that, I would disagree.

I think he is setting up a Free Agency run. If he Drafts the next five guys without trading out, one or two of this second tier talent might work so the goal must be Free Agency

Its because a lot of the people that come here and post are idiots.

I think that there are plenty of quality pass-rushing prospects still left on the board and that I can't really comment further until the end of day 2.

The Patriots clearly see Solder as a franchise LT. There are very few positions more valuable in the NFL than a franchise LT. If he matures into that position, it will be more valuable to the Patriots than almost anyone else they could have gotten at that spot.

the last time the Rats did what you say, they drafted Vernot Goatston...:bricks:

When Solder turns into a 10 year Pro Bowler, we'll look back and realize why the Patriots traded Seymour.

Just some additional nuggets: Last year, the Patriots signed Brady, Wilfork and Bodden to an average yearly salary of about $35 million with huge signing bonuses. The Patriots also offered Mankins $7 million a year average or thereabouts. Were it not for the CBA troubles (which were only 50% predictable in 2009 when they traded Seymour (they would have offered Light a deal then as well. The Patriots were looking at resigning players for upwards of $45-50 million a year WITHOUT Seymour. And Seymour made $14 million from Oakland, which would have probably translated to more than Wilfork got from the Patriots had the Patriots tried to resign him.

All this tells me that the Patriots traded one year of Seymour for a potential Pro Bowl left tackle.
