MVP award to be announced at Super Bowl

Stupid but it is not like the outcome is in question. If things go right, this could make Brady the first person to be awarded season MVP and Super Bowl MVP on the same day.

talk about purposely causing a distraction to wreck the focus of a QB before the SB. this is a Goodall move or at least influenced by

I like it. I am superstitious and everytime they have named the mvp before he plays the superbowl his team loses. Look at the list. No MVP has won the superbowl in a long long time.
Hopefully Braady will be playing in the superbowl

I don't get this. It's an Associated Press Award, not a league sponsored one... What about all the other awards...COTY, OROY, DROY, Comeback POY The 50 mediots involved have already voted. I think the deadline was last week... Hope they had a CPA count the ballots and put 'em in a freakin' mayonaise jar they maintain custody of or I'd worry the suits at the NFL Office wanted to do something shifty to market the award...

I thought it's perfect.

On February 6, we will all witness the crowning of Tom Brady as he wins the (1) League MVP, (2) the Superbowl MVP, and (3) the Superbowl XLV trophy, all in one day.

The ultimate "hat trick". :)

That would be pretty sweet if it happens that way.

Quite strange, and I think it's a bad choice. Probably won't be a problem this year, but by delaying the award ceremony, you risk the player having made themselves totally irrelevant. Seeing say Manning accept an MVP after being one-and-done in the playoffs would be awkward and embarrassing for all but the super spiteful. If the MVP is in the Super Bowl, do they really need yet another media obligation taking them away from their preparation? Seems just like an unnecessary distraction and bad idea all around.

On the plus side, I suspect it's a vote of confidence from the AP that Brady will be in the big show. They're probably just trying to generate as big a story as possible. Giving Brady the award during SB week would allow them to go nuts with hyperbole and GOAT debate. In some small way, I bet some people in the media probably even hope they can deliver the mother of all jinxes.

NFW Tommy Boy is in the least distracted by this. Not. One. Iota.

That said, this idiocy reeks of one of Commissioner Goodell's 'brilliant' marketing schemes. Yes, it sucks.

Giving Manning more time to win with his playoff heroics despite no talent around him?

Are they delaying the vote or just announcing who won later?

I highly doubt that Brady would be distracted by this, especially considering what he's said in the last week or so about the award itself.

Distraction? To Tom Brady? HA

Thats what Im actually worried about. Does anyone know when the votes are required to be in or if they have already been tallied?

Hypothetically Brady could have the worst playoff game of his career (worse than Ravens last year) throw a bunch of picks and Patriots go one and done. Then if Vick makes it to the Super Bowl whats to stop the voters from giving Vick the MVP? Not even gonna mention the tons of other hypothetical nightmares (Brady wins MVP but Pats are not at SB)

Of course theres a very slim chance of that, but when they finally announce the MVP on the 6th and if Brady doesnt get it we can all be sure of the reason. Not to mention what a disgrace it would be robbing Brady of the honor.

The mediots will start revealing who they are voting for (I think King said the vote was this week).

Both King & Banks are already on the record as Brady votes - soon, more reporters will let us know who they went for. At some point, enough votes will be accounted to get an idea of who won.

What? Why? This is dumb.

strange...no reason given

They were afraid that when Brady found out Vick won the thing, that he'd go all dirty harry on the league's backside and annihilate every team that much more than he would have otherwise.

Clayton has Brady on his All-Pro team, and if that dweeb has an MVP vote, its a relatively safe bet it went to him.

So that's 3.

When is All Pro announced, anyway? Because - sadly, since MVP has become a QB award - whoever is the AllPro QB has a damn good chance of being MVP, and we'd probably know then anyway.

This is a dumb move by Goodell. I guarantee some people will get confused and won't be able to tell which MVP award is which.
