Re: ATTENTION: We're rooting for the Steelers next week, NOT the Jets

Very well said, nobody should be rooting for the jets.. I hate the stillers as much as anyone else.. with the exception with the jets.. would love to see them miss the playoffs... could happen...

Re: ATTENTION: We're rooting for the Steelers next week, NOT the Jets

You know, I was probably the first one to raise the specter of rooting for the Jets v the Steelers -- I did it in the "who we're rooting for" thread last week.

But after going through all the online media this morning, I feel like George Bailey after he shook hands with Mr. Potter: The Jets are nothing but a bunch of scurvy spiders. Can't do it. I want the Steelers to punish that team for every bit of arrogance they showed in August and September and October.

Re: ATTENTION: We're rooting for the Steelers next week, NOT the Jets

I'm actually hoping that Pittsburgh hangs around, and takes out the Colts/Chargers then come to Foxborough for the AFCCG and an asswhooping.

Exactly my thoughts. I'd rather play Steelers over Ravens or Colts honestly.

I don't see it happening, but if, by some fluke, the Jets should beat the Steelers, then we have Homefield clinched before the final game, assuming we beat the Packers and Bills.

As we all know, BB isn't inclined to throw in the towel when there's nothing on the line in Week 17, but it would mean that he could rest players who have the kind of injuries that wouldn't keep them out of a game we had to win, but who could otherwise benefit from a two week break.

On the other hand, if the Jets lose @Steelers and @Bears, then they go into week 17 at 9--6 and in what could well be a scrum for two wildcard spots with some combination of three of the following teams: Indy, Jax, Ravens, Chiefs, Chargers.

So, it's in the Pats best interests "Playoff wise" for the Jets to win but "rubbing it in wise," it's in their best interests for the Steelers and Bears to win the next two weeks.

I should probably root for the Jets give the Steelers have a better record, but my hate is too strong :D. I'll be rooting for the Steelers just so I can watch the Jet fans and their media implode.

If the Steelers win and the Pats win, the Pats lock up the number 2 seed, a guaranteed bye week.

If that happens and the Pats then beat the Bills or the Dolfins, they own the number 1 seed.

If they somehow manage to lose to both the Bills and Dolfins, the only possible road playoff game would be at Heinze field in the AFCC game.

If history is any indicator, that is not a bad place for the Pats to play a road playoff game.

I'm rooting for the Pats to win the next two then rest the starters so we don't have anything happen like happened to Welker last season.

Since CBS has the doubleheader next week and it is the premeire 4:15 game, I suppose I will be watching. But... I'm not going to worry about it. One of them will lose and that will be great. I can't imagine pulling for the Jets, though. Maybe I'll turn the TV off and drink spiked eggnog to get warmed up for the 8:15 game.

It would be better for the Pats if the Jets make the playoffs, but I'm not going to root for them.

Re: ATTENTION: We're rooting for the Steelers next week, NOT the Jets

It's absurd anyone is even trying to make a case otherwise.

It's only absurd if you look solely at the Patriots and don't care who else makes up the playoff field. That strikes me as a little myopic, given that the Pats have already clinched a spot and are very close to a bye.

In the "what opponents would worry you the most" thread, the Chargers and Ravens were widely considered more "worrisome" than the Jets. A Jets loss would be huge for those 2 teams' playoff chances. So it's at least worth talking about.

I think the Pats barring an injury to Brady are getting the #1 seed. So I don't think either one winning or losing will help the Pats more.

Personally, I will be rooting for the Steelers because I am dying to see the Jets flame out completely. They are a team that runs on swagger and front running and I will love to see them turn on each other and watch them get out of control. I am rooting for the Jets to go 9-7.

Exactly. Would much rather see the Jets again than the Chargers.

It's not even absurd in that sense. If the Jets beat Pittsburgh, all the Patriots would have to do to lock up a #1 seed is beat either Buff or Miami. Even if they finish 1-2, as long as 1 of the wins is the last 2 weeks. In fact that's the easiest scenario there is from the Patriots perspective, let alone being absurd.

Agree entirely. I don't even understand the debate.

I don't give a flying crap about who else is in or not in the playoffs, really. The reality is in the AFC, we're going to have to play tough teams. I also use up enough of my energy rooting for the Patriots that I don't have enough left to waste it rooting for whether the Jets win or lose. What I care about is locking up HFA. Currently, the Patriots need to go 2-1 to assure that of happening. If the Steelers beat the Jets, then the Patriots still need to go at least 2-1 to assure HFA. A Steelers win doesn't help them at all.

If, however, the Jets beat the Steelers, the Green Bay game becomes irrelevant and the Patriots need only one win against either the Dolphins or the Bills to wrap up HFA. That is a much better situation. While it's true that a Steelers win essentially locks up the division, the Patriots are in position for HFA right now and I want the result that makes that most probable. Do I think the Patriots should go 2-1 the rest of the way? Of course. If I knew it for sure, maybe I'd give myself the luxury of rooting for the Jets to lose. But football is a funny game. A Jets win helps the Patriots' quest for HFA more than a Steelers win.

I wish the Patriots/Packers game were earlier than the Jets/Steelers, because if the Patriots win, it makes the other game pretty much irrelevant. But since the schedule doesn't work that way, go Jets!

This is a hard one for me...I mean...I just can't decide who I want this week in this game... :)

Oh wait...I HATE REX RYAN and I HATE the entire NY Area Fans!

Sanchez is going to be beaten into a bloody pulp and you guys won't need to worry your little heads about the Jets in the playoffs. After the bullcrap of last season where the Colts let the Jets win and gave them MY playoff spot, revenge has been on our mind. They won't be beaten down on the score board, not the way you guys do it, 180 points or something in 4 games, gross guys, really...but we will beat the living snot of them on the field and break their wills to live. By the time its over, and they look up at the scoreboard which will read something like 20 - 9 or 17 - 6, they will realize that their Playoff hopes and dreams have been smashed into the ashes of 1969 and they can thank the Devil and the Deal with Namath for their lackluster finish to the season.

I'd kind of like the Steelers to miss out on a first round bye. The rapist is pretty banged up right now and I don't want to give him that week off to recover for the playoffs.

On the other hand, I'll have an ear to ear grin if the Jets lose.

Re: ATTENTION: We're rooting for the Steelers next week, NOT the Jets

I'd take that game...AFC Title Game at Foxborough. No way the Steelers could kill the Ghosts of 2 home AFC Title Losses to the Pats...just couldn't happen right? There is no such thing as Karma after all or "revenge".

Plus, 2 Time winner Ben vs a 3 Time winner Tom, Young Coach Tomlin vs the Wise old Veteran Coach Belichick, Troy's Hair vs Brady's Hair...think about the eyes on the screen that day. Pretty much everyone would say "winner of this game is going to win the whole thing." I mean, unless you really fear the Eagles, Giants or Falcons.

I'd take any game that got us 60mins away from playing for Ring #7. Would play that game on the moon or in Iraq. You just never know.

Even though Hershey is much closer to Philly (& Baltimore) than to PitsDirt,
Squealers swag outnumbers Eagles & Ravens swag combined, easily.
I'm sick to my large stomach with that rotten organization these yahoos blindly worship,
for reasons already given (some of which were deleted) in older threads going back to last season.
Because it makes the Pats' path to the #1 seed easier, I'm rooting for a J-e-s-t victory,
with lots of hurt & pain administered to both sides.
But don't b!tch too much, Squealer fanboys (& fanthings you call women):
I despise the Baltimore Murderers(allegedly) almost as much as I despise you lot.

Go Jest!

Im gonna quote you. We can easily lose 2 of 3 . We face really good teams

You've been saying this all season. Are you even serious now or are you just trolling us hard?

We face one good team at home. We face one mediocre team home. We face one crap team on the road.
