OT: NFL non-Patriots cuts

Correction: Walter McFadden has not been released.

Not a cut, but Seahawks OL coach Alex Gibbs has resigned from the team!

Suppose he isn't a USC player ;)

WHOA.

That is IMMENSE.

Alex Gibbs has had more of a Championship impact than the VAST majority of HEAD Coaches who've ever donned an HeadSet.

***

Super Bowl Victories Attributable to Current Coaches

***

3 Bill Belichick
2 **** LeBeau
2 Alex Gibbs
1 Steve Spagnuolo
1 Shawn Payton

***

Needless to say: That list is very subjective.

ALL Super Bowls have enough credit to around...

  • But in my opinion, **** LeBeau was THE difference in the Steelers winning it all under BOTH Head Coaches.
  • Mike Shanahan doesn't get ANYTHING done without Alex Gibbs.
  • And Tom Coughlin's best 2 teams ~ the 1999 Jaguars and the 2007 Giants ~ exploded under the fresh leadership of Dom Capers and Steve Spagnuolo, respectively.

***

...And that number just got reduced from 9 to 7, as I see it!!

I did think that is a HUGE loss for the Seahawks! They aren't that good on O as it is!

Anyone else not surprised that McDaniels went shopping at the Gronkowski family home too now?

I thought this exact same thing. Detroit gets Alphonso Smith which I think Schwartz can maybe coach up some and get rid of a TE who probably wasn't going t make the team.

Kelley Washington released by the Eagles

Eagles cut OG Max Jean-Gilles. Guard depth? He's been known to have weight issues though.

WOW.. That's huge.. He was a BIG name at OG in the 2006 draft..

Granted, any list such as this is subjective as you noted, but if you are going to give Gibbs credit for two Super Bowl victories, then doesn't Belichick get credit for more than three?

Steelers cuts to get down to 53:

The Steelers didn't find a trade partner for center Justin Hartwig, so he was among the 11 players released on Saturday as the team got down to the 53-man limit.

Here's the full list: linebacker Patrick Bailey, cornerback Joe Burnett, safety Da'Mon Cromartie-Smith, wide receiver Tyler Grisham, defensive end Sunny Harris, wideout Stefan Logan, defensive tackle Steve McLendon, fullback Frank Summers, guard Kraig Urbik and defensive tackle Doug Worthington.

One of Antonio's kids?

VERY good point, which one I seriously considered.

My notion was to only give ONE "Credit" per Super Bowl, if you will, and Coach Bill I was such a demonstrably leading factor in those Championships ~ like Bill Walsh and Joe Gibbs ~ that I attribute them to HIM...But you've got a VERY strong argument, considering that the NEXT Super Bowl that Coach Bill I wins, without Coach Bill II The Vastly Superior Alternative by his side...will be the FIRST one!!

Okay, I can see your point. As you noted the list is very subjective. Personally I would have given Belichick credit at least for the SB win over Buffalo in Tampa (Norwood wide right) when the Bills were heavily favored and their offense was considered unstoppable. A game plan in which you plan on letting the opposing running back run for 100 yards must have seemed crazy at the time to the players on the Giants' defense, but it worked.

Dre Bly cornerback released.

There's one to watch out there yet boys and girls - the Jags haven't yet announced their cuts.

Dear Lord, I will be forever in your debt if you could see to it they release Austen Lane and allow the Pats to snag him off waivers.

I'm a huge Lane fan as well and was so disappointed the Patriots didn't pick him up. Sigh I hope we make some kind of move to bolster the pass rush or Carson Palmer is going to look like Joe Montana next week.

Very surprised that the Phins cut OG Donald Thomas. He started as a rookie and was a kid that just pounded people. He's had injuries since then.
