Sorry if this has been mentioned today

Dolphins sign RB Cobbs to the practice squad
The Dolphins added rookie running back Patrick Cobbs to the practice squad on Wednesday.

"It seemed like the best opportunity," Cobbs told The Boston Globe. "The hope is that I'll spend some time on the practice squad and then have a chance to be activated to the roster."

Cobbs, 23, had an impressive exhibition season as he led the New England Patriots with 188 yards on 38 carries (4.9 average) and three touchdowns.

The Patriots decided to keep four veterans and first-round pick Laurence Maroney, so Cobbs was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a seventh-round pick.

It appears RB Carey Davis was cut to make room for Cobbs.

I understand he'll have a good FB to work with in a couple years.

Lol!

B*stards.

Was in Reiss yesterday:

``It was a surprise, but they told me they wanted a bigger back," said Cobbs, who then was courted to return to the Pittsburgh practice squad. But when Miami called, Cobbs felt that was a better landing spot.

``It's been kind of crazy, three teams in less than two weeks," he said. ``It feels good that teams want me, but then they don't want me. It's kind of weird. I'm just taking it day by day, looking to find the best place I could play."

Cobbs said he is ``forever indebted to the Patriots for giving me my first opportunity." Cobbs was ready to sign with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League when the Patriots offered him a tryout.

Good stuff, good luck Patrick, even if it is with the Fishes.

What's the problem? We now have a nine man PS, we can sign Cobbs again if we need him.

I was under the impression that the only way you can sign a player off another team's PS is if you put him on your 53 man roster and then he's guaranteed three games worth of salary even if cut after one week....

Did I miss a change in the CBA allowing 9 man Practice Squads?

I just think s/he means that, since Cobbs knows the drill here, he's just as valuable to us sitting on the Doofins' PS waiting for the call if needed as he is on ours. A good point, I'd have thought. (Or did I miss some subtle irony in the post?)

By the way, whatever happened to Kyle Eckel?

Yeah...PS is limited to 8 players. And what was said before is also correct. If a player is on a PS he can sign with any team as long as he is placed on the active 53 man roster, and then he is guaranteed 3 weeks pay. So if he's a rookie he will sign a 1 year contract for $275,000 plus a small signing bonus (generally under 20K). So even if he's cut after one week he will still be paid three payments of $16,176 totaling $48,529 plus he keeps his Signing bonus.

Last i heard we still held his rights... but he's not showing up on the reserve list like he did all of last year. Either way i think his two year tour is over after this season.

A quick google search revealed a few teams (Dallas, Wash.) talking about 9 man squads, one being if it's an international player for development..

>>The Redskins will have a 9 man practice squad.. LB Pillippe Gardent does not count toward the maximum 8 as part of an international program allowing teams to keep a player from another country..

Hmmm..interesting. Now if europe could only produce some good players... I remember England had a nice O-line prospect...

That WAS the point. Kevin Faulk missed several games last year. If that was to happen again, I expect BB would be giving Cobbs a call.

Evans is taking up a roster spot.
