I can picture the Pats bringing in a beer vendor from Gilette, telling him:
"Billy you average sales of XX beers per hour, well the stadium average is XX+15, so we are going to lower your pay by XX% to reflect your lack of productivity in this matter, we just don't think you're being all that competitive in this situation"
Same thing could happen to the groundscrew, cheerleaders, etc!
"You cut grass at a rate of XX feet per hour, you have to improve on that..."

So I'm taking this a bit far, but we know this is what they do with players.
Deon was worth 1.0M to the Patriots this season because that is the price they were supposed to pay him. Not a penny over for this season. So when he wanted to increase this amount this season, the Pats would not break.
My point is every player has a max $ value next to his name, and how he fits in the plan. (Exception Seymour + Brady)

Well, using this hard lined approach as fans I look at things like this:
The PATS are 10-13M (I'll use 12M for my example) under the cap, which is for argument's sake 105M
So the Pats are at 93M on the cap which means they are only spending 88.57% of the Cap. This means the product on the field is only 88.57% as competitive as it could be.

Now to my point. As a fan of this team, I will take the same approach they do towards business and say that I want the Patriots to lower ticket prices by 11.43% percent (100-88.57)!!

Think about it, the only thing I did here was use the Pats approach to negotiations as a fan about the team I spend money to go see. So until they either spend up to the cap or lower prices, I will NOT pay for the most expensive tickets in the NFL for a sub-par product

Great idea, but the Pats are smart in making me pay for my season tickets months before the season begins. And what if they win the Super Bowl this year? Would I be justified in demanding a 11.43-percent rebate?

So, as a Foreskin fan/ticketholder, your your theory you'd tell their great owner every year that you really wish to pay more for your season tix because the Foreskins are cap maxed every year. However, the product on the field is crappy every year.

Hmmmm. Dan Snyder is looking for more suckers like you. Move to DC.:singing:

How many games you going to?

When have they NOT spent to the cap?

Is it too early to make this argument?

If it was Feb 2007 and they won SB, would you care then (sub-par product)?

If it is Feb 2007 and they still are $10 mil under the cap and didn't win the SB then I agree with your premise but I think it's too early to be judging it.

Sure,

If you pay the price of a Lexus, but end up with a Kia and it ends performaning like a Lexus, it's still a Kia isn't it?

3SB's the last 5 years. Now tell me how many teams have done that the past 25 yrs ? 40 yrs....?

If I was you I would show them how serious you are. Give up your tickets.

As somebody said above, there is still left in the season and IMHO the Pats are going to make another move for a wideout.
So I do think they are going to spend to the Cap.

Like the Pats say, I dont care about the past, BUT they spent up to the Cap in the past.
I live today, now.
And today we are under the cap, and this team has the POTENTIAL to be better if we spent another 10M to address team weaknesses and I would say dressing 3 WR for a game is a team weakness.
I hope that Jackson and Gabriel are the answer, but if they are not, and we have 10M to spare, then what?

the salary cap is an accounting tool. don't worry too much about it. worst case scenario the team uses this year's cap to lessen future cap pains of the seymour and brady contracts.

the cap isn't going to increase $15M (or whatever it was this year) every year. in those years you'll be glad the Pats don't have $7M tied up in a very good, but not great, receiver.

Your analogy doesn't work for one simple reason: Those areas do not have salary caps. So your comparisons just don't work.

That's absolutely right. They expected him to honor the contract he signed in good faith. But you're mistaken here... they were willing to renegotiate his contract and pay him more for this season. He did not accept their terms. He basically wanted to bail out on his contract and they weren't going to let him do that.

This is shortsighted. There is still time left to spend money.

Well, with a season ticket waiting list of about 50,000, something tells me they won't lose any sleep over your little declaration here.

My post was meant to use the Belliolian approach to business as a fan.
That is all.
With a hope of trying to learn something new in the process.

I live in VA and I know all to well about the Skins operation during the Snyder era. Let me just say that Dan Snyder is an underrated genius. He bought a team who's fan base is the strongest in the area and the tickets for the next 100 years have been sold. He sucks at putting a good product out on the field but damn it all if he doesn't keep his fans thinking that the next year the Skins are going to be awesome b/c they signed a high-dollar FA or brought in a "name" coach. That's how he gets away with milking the fans for every penny that they can spend. They are only depressed for the month of December when its obvious their season is done, and then in January Snyder makes a move that erases the memory of the season before. Last year he hit the jackpot by making the playoffs and giving the fans a legitimate reason to think they were going to be good. If you need to see one figure that says it all, its the Redskins franchise value: $1.4 BILLION (only $300 mil above us at #2).

The difference between the Pats and Skins though is that the Pats actually care about putting a quality product on the field. The Pats don't operate in a way that makes their fans comfortable like the Skins, but who's been winning the last 5 years more than any other team?

So to all Pats fans, just accept the fact that our organization isn't looking to make us feel comfortable NOW, but rather in January when we're making another Super Bowl run :)
