Jerry Porter rumor... is this gonna happen???

Do we know for a fact that Porter was cheering and laughing because the Raiders were losing? No, we do not.

Corey Dillon, in the year he backed up Rudi, was frequently seen pouting on the sidelines and not paying attention to the game. He threw his equipment into the crowd the last game, remember? Or is it forgotten now because he's a Patriot?

How can you say Porter is all about Porter? I don't know what his latest problem is. It's probably resentment after the team promised him the #1 job and then signed Moss, because he doesn't like the zoo-like atmosphere over there, or because they suck with no hope in sight. What I do know is that until recently, he was (by all written accounts) a model citizen. How come Dillon and Harrison get the benefit of "only wanting to win" but not Porter? Especially since Dillon was leaving a playoff-caliber team because he was unhappy with his role? Let's not revise history.

I could care less if we get him or not, but we've signed guys that were much bigger question marks than Porter. This team has the veteran leadership that will get him to toe the line if necessary.

The report says: Jerry Porter was reportedly "seen laughing and pumping his fist along the bench when (Aaron) Brooks was sacked a seventh time" Monday night.

He's obviously bitter...having one pass thrown to him all preseason and getting benched for the season opener, demoted to 5th on the depth chart. What else could he possibly be laughing and pumping his fist about while his team was getting blown out?

When Terrell Owens was seen on national television screaming profusely at his offensive coordinator during his final season with the 49ers, do you think he may have just been telling him how great the apple crumb pie he had earlier was? Just connect the dots. None of us know these players personally, we can only go by what the players, coaches, executives, and media tell us. That's a given. But he hasn't exactly been putting his best effort to present a clean image this year.

I guarantee you Jerry Porter is not coming to the Pats, and frankly I'm glad that he isn't. F*** that guy. Belichick didn't put up with Terry Glenn's bullcrap, he's not about to do the same with Porter.

.

My point is what report, and seen by who? This is an internet rumor that may or may not be true. Hell, he might have the Chargers defense in his fantasy league.

He's not bitter about being demoted. He's been demoted because he wants to be traded and is admittedly being a b!tch about it.

The fact that this has been reported, IMO, makes it unlikely to happen. I do know however that Porter would help this team immensely, provided he doesn't have a Donald Hayes-type learning disability.

This should give solid support for your position that we should get Porter.

I think this is the kind of guy that Brady would really look forward to having on the offense.

What a creative group of WRs:

Cole Porter
Peter Gabriel
Erskine Caldwell
and of course, Jackson Brown

I believe you forgot Mr. October, Reggie Jackson. Or was it Tito Jackson.... :singing:

Well, I can't say if we should or shouldn't get him. I'd need to know the cost first.

The problem I'm having with the laughing and fist-pumping is that it now looks like KFFL is reporting that ESPN is reporting that the SF Chronicle is reporting that some anonymous person saw this happen. There's no accountability in the statement.

Yikes! Yeah, the anonymous source thing kind of kills it. This reminds me of how Steve Silva of Boston Dirt Dogs ran with the whole "Nomar didn't want the ring" story that came out of a "trusted source" in Arizona, which turned out to be a prank, only Silva kept insisting it was true.

Well isn't that the way journalism works now? Someone reports it and everyone else runs with it. I don't know if this story is true or not, but I question how often people are actually checking sources.

The cost? The cost a dent in the patriots character. I understand dryheat44 that his talent level for his contract would be a very appealing trade, but why sacrifice locker room unity any more that it already has been? This guy makes branch look tame. We have had enough drama for the year.

IF Porter was celebrating and yukking it up because his team is getting beat and the quarterback is taking a beating, then I agree that we don't want him here. I just find it hard to believe.

Different situation than Branch. At least Porter has the decency to show up, for better or for worse.

Not sure where I am going with this comment I am about to make, but it is some food for thought. Remember last season when every body was dogging Shannehan for gobbling up every DL "turd" from the Browns? It worked out pretty well for him. Never underestimate what great coaching and winning will do to a guys character and I believe the exact opposite holds true look at Dillon as others have pointed out earlier. Not arguing one way or the other because I think this is an unlikely course of action for the Pats at this point.

Re: Jerry Porter a Pat?

Its always speculation because a WR doesnt like where he is at the moment. He has a 1% chance of coming to NWE, dont get your hopes up sonny.

Re: Jerry Porter a Pat?

No no no and NO!

Porter is a punk, while a talented punk, still a punk. Celebrating his team getting killed? If I was in that locker room and I saw that, as soon as we got in the locker room I would be punching his you know what out. Stay away from this guy.

anyone else find this to be the last straw for him in Oakland if this is true? I wouldn't mind giving up a 2nd rounder up for him because thats what Oakland wanted right?

Dude I know that you put a question mark at the end of that thread title, but that was just not cool. :p

And NO, it's not going to happen. I don't want that guy anywhere near this team.

As people already said... we don't know the validity of this report... things are pretty out of control in Oakland right now - just a downward spiral....

I don't know a lot about Porter's character aside from this alleged story, but I've never heard anything bad about him before in years past and he has been a proven performer.

Also, guys with these type of problems in the past have seemed to do just fine when inserted into our system. (ala Dillon)..

I know I'm repeating what has already been said...

but I'll still stick with being in favor of this trade (if it is really even in the works)... my bigger concern would be how much we give up and what it cost us to carry him. I know the Pat organization will do the right thing there though.
