JaMarcus Russell (QB) cut...any interest?

His problems are not ego related by all accounts. He's a nice enough kid who simply doesn't have any interest in developing into anything beyond a wealthy guy who can live his dream lifestyle off the field. And after three years in the league he's not eligible for the practice squad...

I guess I believe in redemption...maybe the public humiliation will make him walk down to the river and be saved! Hallelujah!

Many of you seem to think it's a question of teams giving Russell a chance. The fact is there will always be a team willing to give a guy with that kind of talent a chance; the Cowboys, Bucs, and Seahawks all did it with Ryan Leaf, for instance, and Leaf was by all accounts a terrible person. The question is whether Jamarcus would even be interested in giving football another go. He's already made more than most NFL players will make in their lifetimes and he never exhibited any desire or interest in playing football at the NFL level.

The sentiment seems to be that he'll be broke within 5 years, but there's no basis to that claim.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of his Oakland sources towards the finish wasn't a former Patriot who commented last season on the fact that too many players coming into the league recently were in love with the idea of being an NFL player and achieving the lifestyle that allows, but not remotely in love with being football players or committed to winning.

No - I wouldn't be surprised either. In fact there's a 1 in 32 chance you'd be right.

How you equate that to a 100% chance he can't get his act together and the Patriots wouldn't even bring him into camp with a non-guaranteed contract I still don't know.

There's a great many people who said that Vince Young would always be a low character turd as well... that he'd never change his attitude or approach to the game - or life for that matter.

How everyone can say that there's a 0% chance Russell can change the course of his life I just can't understand.

He's 24 friggen years old.

Judge me by what I did from 20 - 24 and the future doesn't look all that bright either.

no interest at all....he is a horrible QB and just as much of a bust as Ryan Leaf

at least Leaf had a 300 yard game in his short career

...patriots related nugget on a kinda related note...

Some of Russell’s issues may speak to the franchise’s dysfunction as much as Russell’s well-documented lack of dedication.

Andrew Walter(notes), Oakland’s third-round pick in 2005, didn’t last long with the New England Patriots after being cut by the Raiders in July 2009. Another strong-armed passer, the Patriots concluded he was too big a project and released him in September.

“It was like six things he was doing wrong on every play,” said a Patriots source who also used the high school analogy. “It was impossible to coach him because there was too much to correct. … You just stood there and wondered, ‘What the heck happened to this guy?’ ”

Maybe we could put him on the practice squad and he could play the part of JaMarcus Russell.

Agreed. While not certain he'd be useful to New England, only Coach can rule that out completely. Why not bring him in for at least a workout and a chance to compete in training camp. No guaranteed money or contract, just your regular minimum contract for training camp and see how it goes.

I see NOTHING to lose in that option.

What you lose is coaching time and effort, not to mention given his lack of self motivation you're sending mixed messages by bringing in a younger version of the guys you already cut because they weren't unselfish or self motivated or accountable. JaMarcus is also the antithesis of the skillset the scouting manual dictates a QB of the NEP must possess before you even factor in his lack of intangibles...

Ah man! 6'5", 265. Quick first step and skill at creating turnovers. Lets sign him as an outside linebacker!

Last reported to weigh over 300 lbs. We could try him out at DE but he'd be too lazy to get out of his 3 point stance. Useless. Well... I guess the Pats COULD use another waterboy! :p I'd give him donut fetching duties, but I'm afraid he'd eat all of them before they could get around to the staff and players.

JaMarcus Russell doesn't want to be an NFL player enough. Conditioning is the most important tool one has in keeping the mind and body sharp. He's not worth the sweat in my jocks until he shows himself in any sort of shape that resembles an elite sportsman who isn't a down lineman or sumo wrestler.

Hmmm that does beg the question. Sumo wrestlers are explosive, have endurance and have size. I wonder how much a yokozuna makes compared to a lineman.
