Re: Pats sign Damione Lewis?

41 tackles not bad, but I hope he's not our replacement for Jarvis green.

The guy is a 4-3 DT only IMO.

Looking at this, and the number of DT's we've been scouting for the Draft - I just don't see us playing 3-4 next year.

Re: Pats sign Damione Lewis?

Can't hurt to have some extra depth.

Re: Pats sign Damione Lewis?

Heh, his best day last season (tackles) was vs NE. A veritable sack machine!

Depth & camp fodder.

Another Hurricane, so I like him.

Good depth, I suppose? Don't really watch a lot of Panthers games.

Tell us Jack, just how good is he in seting a perimeter?

you don't know that thou..... Pepper's could dominate in a 3-4.... or he could flop.... you don't know how this guy will perform on paper... especially in a new scheme.... he could flourish.... he could flop... he could be better then green.

so many unknowns until the opportunity comes and he works in the new 3-4... you just don't know.

He's a 4-3 DT. Not a 3-4 NT, or a 3-4 DE.

Re: Pats sign Damione Lewis?

Here's what Scout Inc. says about Lewis before last season:

Lewis is a nine-year veteran who started 15 games last season. He is an athletic DT who has a quick first step and can create penetration early off the ball. He has good recognition skills inside. He uses his hands well to take on blocks and he has enough strength to shed and make plays inside. He also is quick enough to disrupt blocking schemes with his ability to get upfield. He changes direction well and shows good range down the line of scrimmage. As a pass-rusher Lewis can get on a lineman's edge quickly and he shows good hand use to get around the corner. He will play high at times but he has enough athleticism to keep his feet when he is getting chipped. He gives good second effort to recover if he loses leverage quickly off the ball. He's quick with his hands, knows how to counter and does a good job of working off the inside frame of a guard or center.

I assume that you are joking. Jarvis Green has never had 41 tackles in a season ever, not once in his career.

Re: Pats sign Damione Lewis?

He seems like a 3rd down DT to me. I can imagine us lining up with him and Pryor as the 2 tackles, and then 2 pass rushing ends (Tully and... errr... I'll get back to you with the other one..) on the outside. Gives us the chance to keep Warren and Wilfork off the field for some downs.

Says alot about Bill's faith in Brace though...

Re: Pats sign Damione Lewis?

Not bad. Lewis adds cheap depth and can be plugged in to help provide some pressure on obvious passing downs. Should Brace be looking over his shoulder? :D

He's a 4-3 DT. Not a 3-4 NT, or a 3-4 DE.

he certainly could replace Greens production of late

He could play DE in a 3-4.... I just don't know much about him.

not routinely as a DE...... but 1/4 -1/3 of his snaps

Jarvis Green is 6'3" 285 lbs - Lewis is 6'2" 301lbs.

You can see why they used Green as a 3rd down pass rusher. Lewis is not a specialist pass rusher, and he's not a 3-4 DE. 6'2" guys do not play 3-4 DE.

Re: Pats sign Damione Lewis?

Chargers starting DE Jacques Cesaire is also 6'2" and Glenn Dorsey actually measured in at less than 6'2" at the combine.

Re: Pats sign Damione Lewis?

Who does everyone see starting at DE next to Wilfork. Is it going to be Mike Wright, Damione Lewis or a draft pick? Who presents the most value at pick 22, Jared Odrick, Brandon Graham or Ricky Sapp? It seems to me at with half the league playing 3-4 now, Jared Odrick might be the rarest talent between the three. There are just fewer 6-4 300 pounders who are athletic.

He's been a 4-3 DT his entire career, so we'll have to see how he handles the switch to 3-4 DE. Ideally he replaces Green and does not start. Does not have much pass rush upside.
