**** a 5th rounder... not only the fact that he was our starter but the fact he was most comfortable with Brooks.... that irks me.... you dont do stupid **** like this if your trying to win...

Ill just go take my rage on Jerry Porter... its his fault... its always his fault :D

Let someone else pay slightly above average receivers huge money and maybe the Pats can rent them when they get to the Super Bowl. Unlike you, who probably doesn't even know who this guy is, I've watched him for the last seven years and he's gotten better each year, despite playing with some questionable quarterbacks. I'm not saying Branch is a stiff but with Gabriel and Jackson, the Patriots could have two big, fast receivers if things work out instead of a shrimp who can't get open against double coverage. That doesn't excite you at all? Seriously, I think people around here can attest that I don't just jump on board anything the Patriots do, I just really like this move. Man, you can't win around here. I'm going back to being negative. At least when you guys get mad over that, it makes me laugh.

Ronnie-Boy -did you get a batch of kool-aid, or are you just in a good mood because you just got done beating up another senior citizen. ;)

Actually Moss and Gab were really good friends, and he took Gab under his wing... Moss and even our #3 WR Ronald Curry (who could be our #2 now) are upset that he got Traded... so far around practice its just been a big suprise... the only that could be happy is that ***** Jerry Porter.

Pardon me if this has been discussed but...

How many times in the past few weeks have posters here suggested a Branch/Porter trade, only to be told "no way, davis would never deal with the Pats because there's too much bad blood lingering there."

And hey, if it's really just a fifth then that still leaves our 3rd to trade for somebody else's good young starting receiver!

Well, I can only gloat a little but I did predict just a few hours ago the Pats were going to work a trade for a veteran WR regardless of the Branch resolution. OK, my five seconds of brilliance are over....:D

I guess this means Gabriel may be our #1 if Branch leaves? He must be pretty excited about the challenge ahead of him. He woke up this morning and probably had no idea.

I live out here in Sacramento now and have heard interviews with the local radio stations with this kid. Seems to have his head in the right place but then again so did Branch lol I think he is a good fit and a incredible talent.

A 6 foot 2 WR in NE? Now that's something you don't see every day.Welcome aboard Doug.

Just kidding NEMster, I'm not sold the kid will be amazing, but I know what your getting at. He's got to be better with Brady over Brooks.
 
You guys can thank me for this acquisition. You see, I was playing Madden 07 two nights ago and Doug became a free agent in '08 so I signed him. Well, obviously Spioli recognized it was a good move and decided to pick him up a season earlier ;). And since my track record is apparently flawless we can count on winning the Superbowl this year and also trading up in the first round to get some major talent at the OLB position. I see nothing but prosperity for the next couple of years.

That's 51 of 78 receptions last year for first downs, plus 26 in 04 and 66 in 03.

In other words, they're both catching balls that move the chains, just Branch is catching many more. This is not replacing Branch (although Doug G. might have the potential to, with nothing like a Randy Moss or a Jerry Rice to compete with,) but it certainly doesn't hurt.

The kid could play. He's a starter on a team with better talent at WR, who could afford to offload him; you know he's a starter for us (sorry Bam, or whoever.)

What's not to like? We get another little piece to wedge into the puzzle. That's the name of the game, how it all fits together. To me, this says one thing (based on size and speed,) which is that -- if he can indeed get past a corner -- he gives you the legitimate deep threat. Oh yeah Caldwell can get open too... but from what I've seen Caldwell considers the job done by virtue of being open, and leaves off that bit at the end where you catch the ball.

Fix that, get Jackson's hammy healed, and we have enough of a receiving corps (not "core") to open up a can of Ben Watson on other team's safeties and/or linebackers.

As long as we don't end up with the box stacked against our run -- just like teams felt free to disregard the run and cover the pass last year -- we'll have a balanced enough attack to make good on the Branch decision. And the more I see about Branch, the more I like the decision in his regard.
