Do you want McGowan back?

Re: Do you want McGowan back ?

Did the four safeties the team already had at the top of the rotation all retire?

No. It's just that McGowan and Sanders combined for 0 INTs. Sanders actually has 1 INT and 0 forced fumbles over the 2 years combined. That's why I use the term UPGRADE.

I hadn't seen this until it was linked on the Draft Board :

Pats make right move by swapping Boyer for Brown

"One head-shaking moment I witnessed came after the Patriots pummeled the Jets in November. During that game, Patriots left tackle Mark Levoir destroyed Donald Strickland with a kickout block on a screen.

After the game, as Levoir was walking through the locker room peeling off tape, safety Brandon McGowan barked, "Hey, what the [freak] is wrong with you, Levoir?" Levoir looked at him confused. McGowan said the shot on Strickland was unnecessarily violent and would mark the Patriots DBs as targets now, too. Levoir looked completely taken aback. Then rookie corner Darius Butler - normally quiet as a church mouse - walked past McGowan and echoed McGowan's statements before ducking into the shower.

"Are you not supposed to hit defensive backs hard? Is that what they're pissed about?" I asked Levoir.

"I have no idea what that was all about," he answered."

Imagine Harrison doing that

Go away McGowan you little ****. I want to move forward with Meriweather, Chung and Sanders. McGowan can go and play touch football with some other team.

You must no be familiar with what happens in NFL locker rooms.

Re: Do you want McGowan back ?

Of course this entire article neglects the fact that McGowan put himself in harm's way to make more hard tackles than anyone when he played.

He hit with reckless abandon.

Is anyone here arguing that McGowan avoided contact?

Really. Let's go trust former beat writers now trying to make their name in the sensationalist national media to get the locker room tone right.

The point about coaches is right, enough with these interns.

McGowan's play early in the year was more hustling and hard hitting than anyone on the team, quit looking for problems.

Safety is not the problem and, while it could be upgraded, an upgrade is not needed. As for interceptions, Sanders is averaging 1 interception per season. Harrison had only 8 during his 6 year Patriots career, and just 7 forced fumbles. Wilson had 10 in 5 seasons but, then again, he was playing a different role, in the way that Meriweather (9 in 3 seasons) is now.

2009: $550,000, 2010: $730,000, 2011: Free Agent
Well considering he is signed through 2010 and making less money, I think he will be around. I don't mind if he comes back because he provides decent depth and we have more concerns than the safety position.

That's a bullcrap excuse. Sanders plays in coverage on almost every single play that he's out there. Sometimes the ball hits him in the hands, but he can't hold on. But that's a rare occurrence because most of the time he's just not in position to get his hands on the ball. It's evident in his incredible low PD statistics - he's defended 13 passes in 5 years!

Comparing him to Harrison is just a complete joke. Harrison has 7 post-season INTs for the Patriots. Sanders has - I'll let you guess how many. Harrison had 9 sacks. Harrison also battled through multiple injuries and actually played less than 4 years' worth of games. What a ridiculous argument.

You either fix the lockerroom problems or you bury your head in the sand. Assuming the quote is true, this is not looking for problems - it's admitting to them.

"Brandon's done a good job for us. I thought that he was a good player for Chicago, and had a good career at Maine obviously. But a good career in Chicago but unfortunately missed some time. When he did play he played very well. He's a tough kid, he really is a good contact player with good speed, good range, he's instinctive. He makes plays in the kicking game; he's made plays on defense and both in the running game and in the passing game. Both in this preseason, and he made them with the Bears. So, I think he's a versatile player that brings a good competitive attitude and toughness to our team and to that position along with several other guys we have there, but that's something that we liked, and he's shown all that. I'm glad we have him."

Were you in the locker room? No. I don't think reporters get a hell of a lot there either and certainly aren't above stirring up controversy to make a story.

If I want a gossip column I'll read the fat girls in the herald.

Curran was as while that doesn't guarantee it's accuracy, the brief interchange with LeVoir after the supposed incident seems to make it look real. But if you want to bury your head in the sand, that's fine.

I remember McGowan wrecking someone on a kickoff in the jets game.
For all we know McGowan was jus joking and Levoir didnt get it.
But McGown was a 2001-2004 type of fa pickup. He sacrificed his body and played above expectations. Sorry if im not willing to get rid of a good player for one sentence that was heard in the locker room. Since when have boston/pats fams become so sensitive.

The problem is this team has too many coaches that dont have any clout for the players to respect. It was reiss or glasper who even said the players did not lile boyer so i welcome
brown.

McGowan was a good pickup and played beyond expectations. With that said, Chung needs to be the starter at SS as I would like McGowan as a back up.

No, let's diagnose team chemistry based on scraps from national writers.

How much time do NBC writers spend in the Patriots locker room?

That quote is from September 9. Five days before the Monday night opener against the Bills.

mcgowan can't cover to save his life

keep him around for special teams........a regular rotation of meriweather, chung, and sanders is ok

Thow protest a whole bunch if thow never thought perhaps Mr.McGowan had a tongue in cheek moment. Are you kidding me??? It's called context..... I am sure no player ever ribs another in the NFL. Nah that never happens.
Give me a break.

TB said he touches Kopens buttocks more than anyone ever. So now Brady is considered to have a favored gender issue?

Non-Issue...Next please.

The comparison is apt. Your dislike of it is irrelevant. You were the one who listed interceptions as part of your gripe, after all.

Re: Do you want McGowan back ?

I don't care, Chung will hit just as hard as McGowan did. The last thing we need is some dude telling other on the team "you hit too hard". I could just see McGinnest saying that to Andruzzi after a screen pass back in 2004.

McGowan = part of the problem (assuming the quote was accurate).

Totally agree. This roster has to be gutted from guys like this, Adalius Thomas, Springs, etc.
