This loss can almost single handedly be pinned on this guy. Every pass that Jacoby Jones (#12) caught, was on Wilhite. He is absolutely terrible. He has no confidence and no coverage skills. He's gritty and tough, but so are many other dudes on the unemployed line.

Get the SOB out of there please.

what happened to Wheatley? Is he hurt, or just that far down the depth chart?

Who said we don't need cornerbacks?

My point exactly. We need cornerbacks. We don't need doormats like Wilhite. He is probably worse than Ellis Hobbs. Absolutely pitiful.

Agreed

It was embarrassing him watching him run around aimlessly and by 5 yds+ off his man

The Hobbs trade was a mistake. Even though I like Springs/Bodden/Butler alot, after that it's a bit shaky and an injury could make that a factor. And we really could have used him on KR.

I'm really not sure what to make of Wilhite. He was playing 10 yards off the WR all day against the Texans. But was he 'playing the technique' and the 'scheme' or was he just really that inept today? He used to look like a pretty decent football player.

Wilhite is probably a nickel. He cannot cover above-average WRs. The gets torches alot. Wheatley is no better.

Problem is Meriweather should have helped him cover. But, he did not play his position well today. I see Meriweather covering late, in todays game.

Sigh. If only we can have 1 shutdown-corner....

Last SB win was with TyLaw, a first-round pick.

This guy sucks period.

If you want to blame anyone it goes right back to the FO and the commitment to winning from the ownership. Lets see they didn't want to sign Asante he was to expensive but we spent more money trying to replace him. We traded Seymour 2 days before the season began for a pick 2 years from now why because they suspect cba will be benefit them in other words bonus money will be down for high draft picks. They let Gaffney go instead of paying the 500k then tried to backfill with Greg Lewis which cost us a draft pick and Joey Galloway who was on his last breath. They won't sign Wilfork or Mankins next year I suspect they will franchise Wilfork or trade him and realistically they don't have to do anything with Mankins until 2011 but he will want out when his time comes. The players all know if you want to get paid you have to leave eventually the talent drain will catch up. As far as Wilhite I don't think they the db's are coached well and the bottom line is they need PASS RUSHERS you either pay for them which we know they won't or you draft them and on draft day BB just won't pick these olb's and de's.

Man 08's draft class just looks worse and worse this season.

Erm, you are blaming Wilhite when he was matched up against Andre Johnson a lot.

Yes, he missed a play on Jacoby Jones, but he is a decent 3rd/4th CB for a team.

To compare him to Hobbs is ridiculous. Hobbs was in his 4th/5th year. Wilhite is getting his first significant time in a complicated D. And Hobbs was a Starter, Wilhite isn't.

There's always a scapegoat.

Why don't you blame Fred Taylor for fumbling and giving away a TD.

Then let's blame the coaches for not having him smothered in double coverage

I didn't see the gamer-oo.

Sometimes, it might be the scheme though. Pees in all his genius, has the guys play 5-10 yards off and just concedes the short stuff. Trying to stop the "big play" but concede small stuff.

Wilhite isn't that bad, I don't think. Probably just the scheme. He was pretty good before.

Wheatley, Crable, O'Connell, Wilhite, Slater, and Rudd have not made major contributions to the 2009 New England Patriots. Wheatley has been inactive lately and Wilhite was completely toasted today.

Wilhite is frustrating, he's never torched cos he's in position, but he never ever makes the play. The coaches probs like him 'cos he's always there, he just never comes up with it.

Neither Wilhite nor Butler can play with their back to the QB. They do not turn to look for the ball, and they don't play the receiver's eyes as it arrives. At least next week they will only be in the slot, but look for our opponent to send their slot receiver on a corner route. And what about another broken coverage? I had hoped we left those in NO, or they were fixed by benching McGowan. But this mix-up was with Sanders and Mayo. And speaking of ILBs...has anyone seen Guyton this year?

Comments like this are just asinine. Wilhite and Slater both play regularly on special teams. Slater is one of the best on the Patriots. Wilhite has been a starter at corner.

So many people in this thread whine and complain about every little thing. In fact, its about the only thing you people seem to contribute. Whining... Can't make for very imaginative lives..

Wilhite reminds me a lot of Revis in his rookie year. Revis gave up some big plays and was always in position but didn't make plays on the ball. Obviously, he's blossomed into the best cover corner in the league who can make a ton of plays on the ball now.

I think Wilhite has the potential to be a great corner for us because of his ability to stay with his man due to his great movement and fluid hips. He's just got to work on his ball skills like Revis did.

It also doesn't help when you are playing 5-10 yards off the guy based on scheme or whatever. I think we went a little vanilla today on defense b/c the game didn't mean anything.
