Lets says the young patriots defense plays well against the pass and the run with out wilfork. The patriots let wilfork test FA.

Trade and signs Merriman to a big deal contract. Would you do it?

Merriman has kinda sucked since the injury...

Id take Wilfork for now

Good lord, no.

Aside from being an idiot, and from Wilfork still being the core of our defense, Merriman is a shadow of his former self. He hasn't proven to be the same player since his steroid suspension, he is injury prone, and he hasn't been able to generate effective pressure. He did nothing against the Steelers weak OL on Monday night.

That's not to say that Merriman can't come back and regain his former form. But I'd say he's a long shot to do it right now, and it would be stupid to throw the farm at him at this point in his career.

The young Merriman or the Merriman who is not the same since major injury? I love Wilfork but I don't love him above 4-5 million a year ... same for Merriman.

IMHO - - - No. Never quite the same after the roids incident and the injury.

Bad investment.

Spend the money on a known quantity - Wilfork.

Merriman sucks. I would so much rather have Big Vince.

I've watched Merriman a few games this season and his hasn't looked very good. Granted, he's coming off of a major injury and it may take a full year until he starts to make an impact again. With that said, he's too much of a risk. As of right now, I'd take Wilfork over Merriman.

*Whether Wilfork walks or not, it wouldn't surprise me to see the Pats make a big play for Peppers.

Our history with FA LBs hasnt been good. Beisel and Brown couldnt play, Colvin and AD were hurt and overpayed. Best save the $$ and get a frachise player with the extra 1st we have coming(2nd rd1 in 11). There may well be FAs this year that are willing to take 1 yr "prove it" deals to be a FA again in 11 if its uncapped. I throw a ton of $$ at say Peppers and hope he likes winning enough to reneg at a lesser price for the following few.

Well that's a different story. Peppers' sure has produced this year.

You shouldnt compare merriman and wilfork directly. Remember if the patriots defense can play well against the run and the pass without wilfork. The patriots let Wilfork walk and sign merriman to a cheaper deal.

And the Patriots can fail to get pressure on the QB with their LBs without needing to sign Merriman.

That said, I'll trade Derrick Burgess straight up for him, on the off-chance that he regains his form. :p

I'd take Meriman on steroids first then Wilfork and a cheeseburger for a close second

Is thread a serious thread? It's a joke right?

Wilfork without a doubt.

It made me chuckle seeing the thread title and the one star over on the right.

No kidding. They shouldn't even be in the same sentence. I can't believe ANYONE would even hallucinate that Merriman was in a class with Wilfork. Even when Merriman was on steroids he wasn't in the same class as Wilfork.

Why is Al Davis posting on this forum?

Anyway...

what a horrendous thread.
