Re: It could be worse you know .....

The reason fans are worried is because the defense has no playmakers, the offensive line stinks, Brady is a shadow of himself. Call it injury or whatever, but Brady is looking like Jim Sorgi. It doesn't matter what Brady has done in the past. It's post-Bernard Pollard Brady, and I don't like what I see so far.

Add in the fact that we face the Falcons and Ravens, and the schedule doesn't get any easier. If we struggled against two lowly teams like the Bills and Jets, how are we going to play against contenders with offenses that can put up 30 plus points?

Re: What's with all the doom and gloom?

brady is coming off a serious knee injury. it took peyton half the season before he got into rhythm and if he can get it together there's no reason to believe brady won't. as for the defense, I feel it's much better than last years, especially the secondary. as tough as this loss was, it's only week 2 and we have the same record as the defending SB champs. that being said, I can think of several "contending" teams that are in worse shape and have a lot more to worry about (titans, chargers). even the 2-0 ravens, you know their fans can't be happy about the fact their D gave up 26 points to an injury-ridden chargers team.

Re: It could be worse you know .....

Step off the ******* ledge seriously. It was one bad game. Did you honestly expect Brady to be 2007 form after missing a whole season? If they had converted those FG's into TD's yesterday it would have put enormous pressure on the Jets if they were up 17-3 at halftime, and Dirty Sanchez would have had to pass to get back in the game and I guarantee he would have made mistakes.

Red zone offense cost the game. But seriously chill out.

Re: It could be worse you know .....

with this whole "how are we going to beat contenders attitude," how many of us thought the pats would crush denver last year after that humiliating loss to SD?

IIRC Brady while not looking good last week against the Bills, engineered 2 late game winning drives to beat the Bills - I don't think Sorgi could do that.

Do you remember when Brady threw 5 picks against the Steelers in 2004? - He looked horrid that game but bounced back well enough to help and direct the team to a championship,I am not saying this team looks like a SB contender right now because they don't but you can slowly patch up holes along the way to get you there and we all love this team being an under the radar type which we have not been for years.

The OL has been that way for a while and was really all-pros in 2007 because teams layed off the blitz knowing Brady would kill them if they tried so they looked better than they really are but the OL is what it is and we have to just hope Brady does not get killed when the Ravens come to town in two weeks.

Re: What's with all the doom and gloom?

This is not the time for doom. However, gloom is clearly appropriate at this time.

Agreed.

At this point, I think I'm mostly just having a hard time wrapping my brain around the fact that the defense is performing better than expected IMO, while the offense is struggling more than I expected even given TFB's rust factor and such. I'm not anywhere near flipping out about it, or anything, but I must admit I'm feeling a little blurghhh about it today. But I also remain optimistic that things will improve on the offensive side of the ball. Sooner rather than later would be nice, though! :D

And it pains me to do it, but I have to go with the Colts for a win tonight because any division team loss is a plus for our guys. It's kinda like making me choose between jamming a fork in my eye, or into my thigh - I know the thigh will hurt less, but I still don't want to do it.

why does this board need a self help session after every single loss...it's one game in september

Re: What's with all the doom and gloom?

Why are there so many people on here so OFFENDED by doom and gloom? They post replies to gloomy posts as if the posts were personal insults.

Get over it people. Some days we're just going to be gloomy. It's not going to be Happy Fun 19-0 Land every day. There will be negative comments about this team. Maybe lots of them in the weeks ahead. Deal with it. We get better through analyzing what's wrong, not what's right. True fans are those who ARE concerned and would like to see things corrected.

We all love the Pats. We're all gloomy in a hope that they'll improve.

There is nothing wrong with doom and gloom. It's a part of life.

Please stop telling us not to be gloomy and doomy.

Re: It could be worse you know .....

The reason Brady engineered that drive in the Bills game is because the Bills defense played "not to lose" and we got a break/great play by the special times for a fumble.

Ryan knew better and kept the pressure on and we saw what happened.

Excuse me if I'm not living the past. I hate how everyone says "Remember in 2004 when we lost to whoever, and we bounced back?" Well Ty Law isn't walking through that door.

This team is what it is. A potential great offense when they click and Brady becomes himself again and a mediocre defense. We've become the 2004 Colts, the very thing we used to despise.

If you want to flame me, fine. But as badly as I want the Patriots to win the Super Bowl this year, I'm seeing the team for what it is, not for what it was 5 years ago.

Maybe some of you like watching your 3 games to glory DVDs and have the arrogance of Yankee fans, but after losing the way we have in the playoffs the past few years I take nothing for granted and hope that the team gels enough in the next 3-4 years before Brady's out of his prime to win one more ring and atone for 2007.

doom and gloom after we are 1-1? That's an over reaction. If we were 1-3 - understandable.

Just for the record.... people have your permission to talk about doom if the Patriots lose the next two games, against the Falcons and Ravens? You won't go posting about how they're all panicking too early, or they are bandwagon fans, or anything like that?

Yeah, but we overreact optimistically when everything is going well too. Just a part of life!

If you don't like the 'we are doomed theory' threads and you don't like 'the season's not over' threads then I would like to know what you do want ?

There is really nothing much in between - Either threads will say we are doomed or threads will say we will be alright.

Re: It could be worse you know .....

In '03, Bill dumped a defensive leader the week before the season began. The Pats lost week 1 and then had a slew of injuries and lost again to the Skins in September. Brady threw 3 or 4 picks that day.

And guess what, they never lost again that year......

Re: What's with all the doom and gloom?

I can't ever remember seeing this "regime" of Brady/Belichick having that many delay of game penalties. Kind of tough to do anything when it is 1st and 30! As much as this is depressing, I am thinking that the "new" team will develop as the season goes on.

Get yer cobwebs out!

Re: What's with all the doom and gloom?

Agreed, thats a good post,NEF.Its early ,the Jets (and Bills) have improved. If we have a good game against Atlanta, all will be good......In other news other teams that are 1-1 Pittsburgh,San Diego,Philly, Dallas......season is far from over.

I'm not trying to pick on you, I'm just saying that there's 10 threads either trying to rationalize the loss or saying we're doomed. We should just analyze what went wrong and look to the next game, instead of thinking about the whole season, and extrapolating the rest of the games based on one.

Re: It could be worse you know .....

grooverider this is the second bad game in a row. People are concerned about how inept this team is on both sides of the ball. The offense is lost and their defense has no playmakers and has put zero pressure on the QB. I know it is supposed to be "In Bill we trust." but at some point we need to question what the hell he is doing.

6 sacks and one forced fumble equals "zero pressure on the quarterback"?

I don't get this "the defense has sucked" stuff. Must be the same people who complained about the 2006 defense, who, you know, set a Patriots record for fewest points allowed - as well as the 2007 defense that was ranked 4th in the NFL.

Patriots fans (myself included) have this amazing habit of going by the last thing we see. By our rationale, after week 2, the 2001 team would have sucked, the 2003 defense was an abortion (hell, the dead in the water Jets with a bunch of replacement players hung up 16 points - sound familiar? - on this defense early that year), and the 2007 Giants would never be able to stop a one legged midget from hanging up 30 points on that defense

Re: It could be worse you know .....

I am not going to let yesterday's defeat kill the whole season and for several reasons....

1) This is WEEK 2 - There is still 14 games to go in an AFC which has only a handful of unbeatens ..and this is only week 2,quite a few 1-1 teams INCLUDING the World Champion Steelers who could also have been 0-2 without going into OT last week and winning the coin toss.

2) Very rarily has a team beaten Belichick twice in one season when BB has seen what they have to offer so we can look forward to November when the Jets come to town and try to even things out in the East.

2) Do all of you remember this time LAST YEAR which just happened to be after the second game of the season, after beating the Jets at the meadowlands?,After being 2-0 but still sad?,After losing Brady for the season?

3) Would you rather have Brady on the team and be 1-1 in 2009? or Without Brady and be 2-0 in 2008?

4) Its true that our defense does not look championship caliber but things can change with more experience with the younger guys.

5) Does any of you remember that Brady almost annually healthy or not, has a stinker game or two,Why can't it be this early when he is still recovering from injury?

6) My real main concern is NO pass rush except for Banta Cain, but Maybe when Mayo comes back in or around week 9 we can utilize his talents in that area.

Relax,We play 2 games in a row the next 2 weeks against 2 of the NFLs newest and rising stars at QB - Tighten up yor belt and hang on for the ride which is the roller coaster of an average NFL season,it may be bumpy but don't jump out of your seat just yet. :)

This is one of the best and level-headed posts that have come out of the 1st couple of games.

People seem to have forgotten that BB prefers to have the team peaking in Mid-December and into January rather than right at the beginning because its a lot harder to keep up the intense pace.

I like what I've seen so far from the defense, though I'd like to see them rotate Wright, Brace, and Wilfork more often.

The offense has had glimmers, but the O-line has been wildly inconsistent. They really need to go back to whatever blocking scheme they used at the end of last season because that is what worked best for them.
