I voted for the Chargers. The Jets are getting a lot of votes, but I think that's because of the upcoming game this weekend which is causing a lot of people to vote based on emotion instead of rationality.

Anyway, based on what I heard about the Chargers-Pats game last season, my vote went to them. They sound like a bunch of punks. Not to mention their fanbase is so pathetic that they can't even sell out a home playoff game coming off of a 14-2 season and may also migrate over to San Antonio because of that.

i understand what you are getting at, but theres no way the giants or steelers fans should be on this list. they should be up there with the best fan bases

Jacksonville had to cover 10,000 seats to avoid weekly blackouts, and they are still blacked out weekly. That's gotta be my pick. Besides, when's the last time you saw someone in a Jaguars jersey?

They are rabid in Jacksonville. The only problem is that there is not enough money around that city to support an NFL team. It was a big mistake putting a franchise there. Believe me, I lived there. People have to watch the games on TV because many of them can't afford to go to the games. Now it's looking like they won't be able to do that anymore.

I hate Jets fans. I find them (in general) to be arrogant and a lot of them are ignorant too. But does that make them the worst fans? Maybe the most annoying, but they are fairly passionate about a team that hasn't really won anything in a decade when they got to the AFC Chamipionship game and hasn't won it all in four decades.

When I consider the worst fan base, I look for the most dispassionate, apathetic fan base. That is why I voted for the Chargers. San Deigo is a pretty big city and the Chargers have been perenial AFC West title and Super Bowl contenders for four or five years now. And they are still looking at blackouts. That is pathetic to me. I can understand if your team consistently sucks and people not going to the games, but when all the media has you as one of the three teams most predicted to win the Super Bowl after the Pats and Steelers?!?

Chargers, and it's not even close.

Many of you are simply under the spell of Jet-week.

how do you judge the worst

Good point on the Chargers. It seems that SoCal in general can't get up for any local sports team that isn't called the Lakers. Maybe this so-called East Coast bias in the media is a result of a higher percentage of fans in the east giving a crap.

I actually know a Jaguars fan in Virginia. I asked him why he liked them and he thought about it, but admitted he couldn't tell me.

I think you misunderstood. The Chargers' fans get up for the games just fine. They're very passionate. The problem is that they are mentally ill. No observed facts of reality will ever seep into their tiny pea-brains; beyond delusional.

Edit: I also forgot to add that they are the biggest collection of douchebags and raving lunatics of all times. Some of the most crass and unabashedly rude people you'll ever come across.

Interesting. That's my perspective of Dallas fans.

And the Chargers fans can only be getting up for their games so much if they can't even fill the seats while in the playoff hunt.

Jax was my pick as well for exactly the reasons you cite.

If it is worst in terms of most obnoxious I have to vote Jets because Philly is not a rival of ours and I don't have a large enough sample size of Philly fans to draw a conclusion with.

While all teams have obnoxious fans, the Jets take the cake. I am amazed when I go on their message boards (just to look, not to post) how vulgar they are, almost to a man (or a woman). Virtually every thread disintegrates into vile comments about Tom Brady's sexual preferences or giddy hopes that he is badly injured when we play them. Then there are the obnoxious chants at the games, the requests for women to expose themselves, and on and on.

They are the worst, IMO. Other teams have obnoxiously loyal fans too (Steelers come to mind), but at least they are focussed, for the most part, on the game and beating the Pats fair and square.

The only consolation, if we win on Sunday, will be returning briefly and finding all those obnoxious fans on the ledge now that they have discovered that the team is the same old Jests.

I find Steelers fans far, far more obnoxious than those of any other team. The Steelers never lose because the other team was better, but only because of whatever excuse they can come up with. Also, they have a sense of entitlement to winning that puts even the more obnoxious Pats fans (and I say this as a rabid Pats fan) to shame.

Felger had a classic rant on Jets fans the other day, and while Felger can piss off from time to time, he was spot on about Jets fans. And I mean this in no disrespect to the reasonable and contributing Jets fans here, but there is a very large percentage of Jets fans that is - as Felger put it - sub-human. Felger likened it to the graphics of the evolution of man, with the Jets fan coming in just slightly after the chimp.

And its true. Honest to god, nearly every Jets fans I've come across has just embodied this stereotype of this absolute illiterate ingrate. I'm sorry, but this has to be the most vile and stupid fanbase, or group of people, existing on the planet right now. They are basically the Taliban of sports fans.

I voted for the Eagles because in my opinion, Philly sports fans in general are the most obnoxious. Then again, not all of them can be thrown into that category; I've talked to a few Eagles fans who are really cool. It's just that the worst Philly fans are truly the bottom of the barrel.

Having said that, every team has their obnoxious fans and their cool fans, so it's hard to say which team's fanbase is the worst because not all fans of a given team behave the same way. And I'm not gonna sugarcoat this, the behavior of some Pats fans makes me cringe with embarrassment. Some of them are drunk and belligerent, some are fairweather fans who jump ship at the first sign of trouble, while others are the perennial whiners who are just never happy. But does that mean that the entire Pats fanbase are idiots? A lot of people here, myself included, are very passionate about the team and the sport and won't give up on them.

Worst support: Jax.

Biggest baggadoush fans: Raiders fans...from L.A., not Oakland.

Regards,
Chris

Are we talking most annoying or just poorest? Because most annoying would go to Jets and Steelers but poorest fan base would have to be Jacksonville.

Worst NFL fanbase? That's tough to say because there could be several different definitions of worst.

Worst as in being unruly, drunk, and belligerent at games? I'd say that's probably a close call between the Eagles, Jets and Chargers; my vote goes to the Eagles although reports out of San Diego the last couple of years makes it hard not to pick them.

Worst as in being apathetic, not supporting the home team, and having a low football IQ? I know many say the Jaguars because of their inability to sellout, but I give them a pass. They have one of the smallest numbers of people in their area to draw fans from, they haven't been in existence for all that long, they play in a city where people constantly move in and out, and in a state that is one of the two hit the worst by the current economy. Atlanta would be my choice, followed by Minnesota and San Diego. Arizona, Miami and Tampa Bay would be worth considering as well.

Worst as in being obnoxious and lack of objectivity? I'll go with Steeler fans for the reasons DegenCutter stated above (btw great first post, and welcome to the board) although it's really tough to not pick the Cowboys in this category. I know we have a couple of great Steeler fans that post here often but from what I have seen and heard they're the exception and not the rule to the way Steeler fans act.

The Chargers are the worst. In Bruschi's book he says it is the only stadium that his family did not feel safe. Living in Southern California and traveling a lot, I run into a lot of fans for other teams. Most are really cool and knowledgable. But for some reason the Charger fans behave like they have a huge stick up their @$$ and it is the Patriots fault. Charger fans make Raider fans look civilized.
