Saturday A.M. Practice

FOXBORO - A little more than halfway through the first of two practices today, here are some quick-hit observations.

* Defensive end Marquise Hill left the field limping about 20 minutes ago, going down during a short-yardage drill.

* Ellis Hobbs didn't fare particularly well in a few 11-on-11 plays. One in particular came when Reche Caldwell scorched him on a wide receiver screen (one juke and gone).

* Eugene Wilson continues working out primarily at corner instead of safety. Yesterday, he and Asante Samuel were the first pair of corners on the field in the 11-on-11 drill (Artrell Hawkins and James Sanders were the safeties).

* Players not on the field: Bam Childress, Chad Jackson, Randall Gay, Patrick Pass, Rodney Harrison, Patrick Cobbs, Garrett Mills, Lonie Paxton, Dan Koppen, Nick Kaczur, Troy Brown, Daniel Graham, Deion Branch, Ben Watson and Richard Seymour.

We'll check back after the Beli-Conference.

Day 2

Posted by: Albert Breer

A few nuggets from the morning session on Day 2 of training camp, with blue skies overhead and temperatures soaring at the upper practice field off Gillette Stadium:

...

– Some more tinkering in the secondary took place, with veteran corner Chad Scott seeing time with the first team at safety, a position he played some during the preseason last summer. He was paired with Tebucky Jones during scrimmaging with last year’s starting corners, Ellis Hobbs and Asante Samuel, on the outside.

– Here are your first-team receivers for today, or at least the ones that came out with Brady in the three-wide set: Reche Caldwell, John Stone, Matt Shelton. If there’s a better sign that there’s a long way to go, it might be hard to find it. And right now, finding Deion Branch would help quite a bit.

– The kicking competition moved on in earnest, with Martin Gramatica and Stephen Gostkowski playing to a near dead heat. In a mid-practice drill, the two alternated field-goal attempts moving back in five-yard increments. Both were on target all the way through 45 yards, then missed 50-yarders. Both followed by making all four of their respective practice-ending kicks. On a side note, with regular long-snapper Lonnie Paxton on the shelf, Jon Condo enjoyed a mistake-free morning snapping.

– Finally, Troy Brown took most of the morning session off, after returning to practice yesterday afternoon.

Tremendous compendium, Pats1 !

Condo seems like he is going to make Lonnie sweat a bit!

Hope so.
(And maybe Condo deigns to learn some related football craft ...
perhaps straight T-formation snapper.)
