Perhaps this only interests me but WeFollow: sports Twitter users lists the top sports teams/individuals according to the number of people following them on Twitter.

The Patriots Patriots.com (PATRIOTSdotCOM) on Twitter are a long way down the list at #252. Above them are:

#35 Cowboys
#49 Chargers
#51 Steelers
#71 Bears
#92 Giants
#100 Eagles
#108 Packers
#114 Redskins
#145 Raiders
#148 Seahawks
#160 Colts
#171 Chiefs
#172 Titans
#252 Patriots with 2004 followers

Not on the list is one of my favorites: twitter.com/globepatriots where I get all Mike Reiss's updates - with 3065 followers

What irks me most is that twitter.com/merrilhoge has 170 more followers than the Pats.

As for the individuals only 3 NFL players in the top 250

#86 Kerry Rhodes - really?
#26 Eli Manning twitter.com/elimanning
and
#21 Mark Sanchez with 17,987 Jets fans hanging on every single dull word

the really funny thing is that Eli is following more people than are following him (17006 to 15019), I guess he puts more time into following twitter feeds than game film :)

Top of the list btw is Shaq with over 1 million followers

So if you twitter can you raise the profile of the team and while you are at it pick up Reiss's Pieces as they are published?

I'm hoping Twitter just goes away.

Yeah! We've got the 14th most Twits in our fanbase!!!

Pretty sure that Eli Manning's twitter feed has been outed as a fake account.

Ron Artest is by far the best athlete to follow on Twitter. Where else could you find gems like this:

this is really concerning, thanks for bringing this to our attention, im really worried about the season now,ive got one thing to say WHO THE HELL CARES

I have no idea who a lot of those people are in the top 100, I guess I'm getting old.

And I'm a bit confused as to why Sport Magazine is #98, considering it went out of business about a decade ago.

I'm hoping Twitter just goes away.

I'm in marketing so have known about Twitter for quite awhile, and was always puzzled back to the early days when it had a ton of industry buzz but no national awareness.

Ironically, now that it has been widely adopted, I can actually see the utility in it as a one-way mass communication medium; however, I'm still not sold on it's two-way communication benefits. As far as communicating with friends, email & Facebook are still far superior.

So basically, what it does well is allow for individuals and companies to push out quick one-way communications to people who want to listen.

I find I am using it basically as a mini-RSS feed, and am following only a handful of comedians and sports writers that interest me.

And I personally have not sent a tweet in over a year.

Did you check the numbers yourself? Because you got it wrong.

The official Pats Twitter page is New England Patriots (realpatriots) on Twitter and they have 8,339 followers, placing them in third behind the Chargers.

Hah yeah exactly what I just posted :D

Thanks for the correction everyone!

However I was only inaccurate not wrong as http://twitter.com/PATRIOTSdotCOM is also a bona fide twitter page from the official team site.

Guess I need new specs - as I missed the main one after going through the list several times. I must be getting more senior every day to have such moments

BTW Twitter was a godsend during the draft, as I was traveling in Europe, and other than when I was asleep I got every pick as it happened without having to be logged in.
