(Mock) OUTRAGE (sorta): Pats to issue Troy Browns # this season?

Relax people, its a number. Everybody on the team needs to have one and he got number 80 deal with it. Hopefully he will represent that number well but if he doesn't it wont make me or anybody else think of the number 80 differently.

Agree 100%
We won't forget about Troy Brown (and all his accomplishments) or honor him less just because another guy wears his number......

Big deal. The number isn't retired yet. No worries. It will be some day.

This is pretty funny, seeing everyone's reaction.... seemingly oblivious to the limited number of jersey numbers.

Whether its 10, 20 or 100 years from now, assuming the Patriots continue to have good players, ALL the numbers are going to be retired or under consideration for retirement.

What then?

Anyone want to recommend a new numbering system? Perhaps something akin to a license plate?

"The Patriots today announced that they will retire jersey # JJ-826 in honor of..."

Re: OUTRAGE: Pats to issue troy Browns # this season?

I know everything is relative, and this is mostly semantics, but wouldn't you be better off saving your "outrage" for the guy down the street who abuses his wife rather than what jersey number your favourite team gives the new guy?

The fact of the matter is, there are only a certain number of numbers available to use, no matter how great of a NE Patriot you think Brown was (and I think he was great).

Given all of the terrible things that go on in the world, aren't you better off selling your computer and donating the money to charity than sitting around on a football message board?

Say it isn't so.

So what? It's impractical to retire too many numbers when you have to carry a 53 man roster in the regular season and can have up to 80 people on the roster before the season starts.

I really liked Troy Brown as a player but I don't think his number should be retired or anything like that. The only number I see possibly seeing retirement in the future is #12.

despicable. after everything troy has done he is betrayed like this.

Assuming you're not joking, one of the most ridiculous posts I've seen on here.

Assuming he makes the team, can't they reassign him another number in the 80s once they get down to 53?

I would say that's a good possibility. Smith has said how much he respects Brown and that he was hesitant to take the number in the first place. He might end up with #84 after all is said and done!

If that's OK with Dirk. Or would that be betraying Watson?
